Bio:

Krokus is a hard rock/heavy metal band from Switzerland. They enjoyed moderate success in North America during the 1980s.Krokus was founded in Solothurn in 1975 by bassist (and original lead vocalist) Chris von Rohr and guitarist Tommy Kiefer. Former Eazy Money vocalist Marc Storace joined the band as frontman in time for their Metal Rendez-vous album in 1980.On November 18, 2007, the line up featuring Chris von Rohr, Fernando von Arb, Freddy Steady and Marc Storace reunited to play a medley ("Tokyo Nights", "Bedside Radio" and "Heatstrokes") during the TV show, Die grössten Schweizer Hits, on Swiss television. This led to their reunion concert on August 2, 2008. Krokus's cover of Sweet's "The Ballroom Blitz" also appeared in the 2007 game Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s.It was announced on April 20, 2008, that the classic lineup of Chris von Rohr, Fernando von Arb, Freddy Steady, Mark Kohler and Marc Storace had reunited, and would be releasing a new studio record in 2010 with a supporting world tour. On August 2, 2008, the band performed live in the Stade de Suisse in Bern. Krokus performed the official anthem of the 2009 Ice Hockey World Championships, hosted by Switzerland. The song was entitled "Live for the Action".On March 3, 2010, their latest album, Hoodoo, including a cover version of Steppenwolf's "Born To Be Wild" and ten other songs, was released. It came in a regular and limited edition, the latter containing a DVD featuring concert footage. In May 2011, drummer Fready Steady announced he was leaving the band.Reunion with Mandy Meyer and beyond (2012–present.In December 2012, it was announced guitarist Mandy Meyer was once again rejoining the band after having filled in for an ailing Fernando von Arb at the Loud Park Festival in Japan in October 2011.Krokus released their seventeenth studio album Dirty Dynamite on February 22, 2013.On April 21, 2013, it was reported that former drummer Dani Crivelli, who played on the band's 1988 Heart Attack, had died.[9] According to the German language Swiss daily Blick, Crivelli fell off a bridge in Trimbach, Canton of Solothurn, and did not survive the fall. The band name Krokus is German for crocus, a flower common throughout Europe. Early in the spring of 1975, band founder Chris von Rohr observed a field of these flowers while traveling by train. He was returning from L'Ecole des Chefs located in France after an aborted career in the culinary arts, and it was around this time the idea for the band was formed. The band members stated that it was the perfect name, since it featured "rok" in the middle.

Album:

Rock Candy Records has just remastered the first three '80s records by Swiss Hard Rock pioneers KROKUS, something the fans have been demanding for some time. You can count the amount of internationally successful European bands in this genre on one hand; Krokus are one of only a few acts that can be included on that list. With roots reaching back to mid-seventies, the band spent several years experimenting with various line-up changes and recording three albums, before settling on a unique style that came fully into focus with the appointment of Maltese born frontman Marc Storace, formerly of Swiss heavy progressive rockers Tea.It was this formation that signed to German record label Ariola and cut "Metal Rendez-vous", an invigorating example of explosive four-to-the floor hard rock, big on hooks and jam-packed with hell raising riffs.Chief amongst their selling points was Storace’s signature voice and his ability to punch home some incredibly well constructed songs. In addition, guitarists Tommy Kiefer and Fernando von Arb were no slouches either, peeling out a series of ripping solos and laying down tough as nails musical support in a manner befitting the times.Co-produced with the band in Switzerland by English producer Martin Pearson, the album contains a number of classic Krokus tracks including "Heatstrokes", "Streamer", "Tokyo Nights", and my absolute favorite the catchy "Bedside Radio", which still remain in the Krokus' live set to this very day.

Line-Up:

Album:

Rock Candy Records has just remastered the first three '80s records by Swiss Hard Rock pioneers KROKUS, something the fans have been demanding for some time. It's fair to say that the Swiss music scene at the beginning of that decade hadn't exactly set the world on fire, but with Krokus that situation was rapidly reversed. The band’s album ‘Metal Rendez-vous’ became a surprise success, not only in their home country (sales rocketing to three times Platinum) but also globally where they secured a strong foothold in the charts and on the live front. The band’s no-nonsense brand of tough-guy hard rock found favour in a market that was wide open for that revolution."Hardware", therefore, was released into the arms of an eager fan base feeding off the energy of their previous album and it didn’t disappoint them. The record picks up where the band left off, laying down some serious riffage on songs that display a cheeky lyrical charm; an unexpected side-effect of their Swiss/Maltese heritage.Engineered by British studio master Mark Dearnley (Def Leppard) and recorded in London, the album makes full use of their powerful armoury, led by the ripping two guitar attack of Fernando von Arb and Tommy Keefer.Heavy but memorable, the album contains a superb selection of tracks, including the in-concert favourites "Easy Rocker", "Mr. 69", "Smelly Nellie" and "Mad Racket", songs blessed with a swish and swagger that made it clear the Scorpions weren't the only band in Europe with big potential.

Line-Up:

Marc Storace - lead vocals
Tommy Kiefer - guitar, backing vocals
Fernando Von Arb - guitar, backing vocals
Chris Von Rohr - bass, backing vocals
Freddy Steady - drums, backing vocals

Album:

Rock Candy Records has just remastered the first three '80s records by Swiss Hard Rock pioneers KROKUS, something the fans have been demanding for some time. There comes a tipping point in every artist’s career where years of hard work and paying dues suddenly turn into an avalanche of praise and success.Krokus reached this point with the release of "One Vice At A Time", a supremely crafted album boasting a clutch of tracks that elevated their appeal far beyond anything previously conceived or, indeed, achieved.Co-produced in London by former AC/DC engineer Tony Platt and issued in 1982, with "One Vice At A Time" the band made a concerted effort to refine their sound and ambition by bringing their trademark style fully into focus.Jam packed with a number of raucous tracks such as "Bad Boys Rag Dolls", "To The Top", "American Woman" (a metallic cover of the Guess Who classic) and perhaps their best known song "‘Long Stick Goes Boom", there is room enough for the band to drill down deep yet retain a sense of composure befitting a band safe in the knowledge that they were about to reap the rewards of years of hard work.Look out for an appearance by Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson, who provides backing vocals on the track "I’m On The Run".The early Krokus albums really needed a modern sound treatment, and this Rock Candy remaster does justice to this fun, hard rockin' band.

Line-Up:

Marc Storace - lead vocals
Fernando Von Arb - lead guitar
Chris Von Rohr - bass, percussion
Freddy Steady - drums
Mark Kohler - rhythm guitar
Bruce Dickinson - backing vocals on 7

Album:

Rock Candy continues with the remasters of KROKUS' most celebrated albums. Now it's the time for the classic "HeadHunter" and "The Blitz"."HeadHunter", simply put, it's one on my favorite Rock albums of all time, appeared when Hard Rock took the world by storm. In 1983, at this point in their career Krokus were riding high, selling impressive quantities of records and playing numerous live gigs all over the world. With their profile higher than ever, the band were quickly ushered back into the studio to tape their seventh album, a record that would be their most successful to date and provide them with not only a gold record but their highest chart placing in the US."Headhunter", then, is generally regarded as their most significant record, but not only for its sales achievement, also for the terrific songs packed inside.Recorded in Orlando, Florida the project was overseen by renowned British producer ‘Colonel’ Tom Allom (Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Def Leppard) and it also introduced new drummer Steve Pace. There are also some surprising guest appearances on hand by Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford and the recently disappeared Survivor vocalist Jimi Jamison (RIP).Meticulously assembled, the album focuses on their core sound, carefully avoiding any clichéd elements that may have permeated previous recordings, giving rise to a new streamlined sound fit for the times and throbbing with energy and excitement.Songs such as "Eat The Rich", the awesome mid-tempo "Screaming In The Night" and the killer title track stand out from the pack benefitting from a clear cut sense of purpose. Oh, and look out for a hell-raising cover of Bachman-Turner Overdrive’s classic "Stayed Awake All Night"."HeadHunter" is a classic. If you still don't have it in your collection, grab this Rock Candy remaster, it sounds great.

The band members stated that it was the perfect name, since it featured "rok" in the middle.

Album:

Rock Candy continues with the remasters of KROKUS' most celebrated albums. Now it's the time for the classic "HeadHunter" and "The Blitz"."The Blitz" was their first 'American' album, including the hit "Ballroom Blitz".Riding high on a wave of creative and commercial success, Krokus had the world at their feet.In just four short years the band had risen from obscurity in Europe to become major players on the world’s stages, particularly in the USA, where their previous album ‘HeadHunter’ sold a million copies and lodged itself at number twenty five on the album chart. So at this point in their career all eyes were on the band, expecting them to continue their upward trajectory but internally all was not as it should’ve been. The band’s constant touring and recording cycle was proving too much for founding member and bassist Chris von Rohr who opted to leave the band, forcing line up changes with guitarist Mark Kohler switching to bass and the recruitment of new drummer Jeff Klaven (ex Cobra). The importance of the band’s high ranking status was underscored by the appointment of talented producer Bruce Fairbairn (flanked by engineers Bob Rock and Mike Fraser) a man who had guided the recording career of Canadian rockers Loverboy to platinum heights, and who would later find huge success with Bon Jovi and AC/DC.Fairbairn’s ear for commerciality took the band in a new streamline, but still hard rock direction, one highlighted by electrifying tracks such as "Midnite Maniac", "Boys Night Out" (written by Bryan Adams) and a tub thumping cover of the Sweet’s "Ballroom Blitz".Again with Jimi Jamison doing harmony vocals, "The Blitz" is perhaps the most glossy, best sounding recording by Krokus. This Rock Candy remaster has rescued the bass, hidden low frequencies and a general refreshed ambiance.

Album:

Long Stick Goes Boom: Live From Da House of Rust (also known as Long Stick Goes Boom - Live From Da House of Rust and by other titles) is a live album by melodic hard rock band Krokus. Released on 24 March 2014 in Europe and 22 April 2014 in North America by the label Columbia, it was recorded on August 30, 2013 at the "House of Rust" venue in Solothurn, Switzerland. The album has received praise from publications such as Allmusic and Blabbermouth.net, and it peaked at the #3 position on the official Swiss album chart. The album was recorded in front of a rowdy, upbeat "hometown crowd", with the concert taking place in Solothurn, Switzerland on August 30, 2013.Its title comes the group's song "Long Stick Goes Boom" (also known as just "Long Stick"), which is a track initially from the 1982 album One Vice at a Time. That song has been one of Krokus' most popular hits over their career (peaking at #22 in the U.S., for example), and a version of it incorporating elements of The Who's track "Pinball Wizard" begins the release.Krokus' members have felt their studio albums don't quite capture their natural sound, as played on stage before a live audience, which is a factor that frontman Marc Storace has called "frustrating to hear". As well, the live album aimed to capture the distinct abilities and performance styles of the band's three guitarists. After everything finished, Storace felt pleased with Live From Da House of Rust due to its "animalistic" feel. The album captures the group as a six-man line-up made up of Mark Kohler, Mandy Meyer, Flavío Mezzodi, Marc Storace, Fernando Von Arb, and Chris Von Rohr. As well, Chris Von Rohr contributed to the album's production work. The release's track selection encompasses multiple decades of the group's history while having a relative emphasis on their recent work from the 2000s and 2010s.Krokus are a Swiss rock band that I never paid any attention to back in the day and didn’t even realise they were still going. Naming your band after a flower, albeit with the German spelling of crocus (and with the word “rok” in the middle), was a risky move…but it has worked for Krokus as they are still going strong after almost 40 years in the business.“Long Stick Goes Boom” documents the band’s return to where it all started, namely their hometown of Solothurn, Switzerland and features a wide selection of the early classics (1980 – 1983) plus a sprinkle of recent numbers (2006 – 2013) but nothing from in between…Krokus has never been too stable over the years with no band member actually having played in every line-up but what we have here is as close to classic as we could expect – founder Chris von Rohr on bass, Fernando von Arb, Mark Kohler and Mandy Meyer on guitars, Flavio Mezzodi on drums and Marc Storace on vocals. We kick off with Krokus’s most famous number…Long Stick Goes Boom with its distinctly AC/DC groove and then continue in the AC/DC vein with Hallelujah Rock’n’Roll and Go Baby Go…you can almost believe these are taken from Angus and company’s secret vault.American Woman needs no introduction with it being Krokus’s 1982 cover of The Guess Who’s classic number. Tokyo Nights and Screaming in the Night both bring classic Scorpions to mind. The rest…well…the riffing, the rhythm and Marc Storace’s vocals lead us back to AC/DC.Krokus may never be able to move away from that classic AC/DC sound mixed with a little Euro metal a la Scorpions…but then who cares if it is this enjoyable! Time to check out some of their studio albums methinks.Old fashioned good time rock and roll…and a lot better than I expected! The band definitely enjoyed this homecoming – a top-notch performance throughout.

Album:

The Swiss hard rock and heavy metal legends Krokus are about to come up with a new album titled ‘Big Rocks’ this 27th of January. Since 1975, Krokus has stood for “high- quality, honest-to-goodness, hand-made power rock” and continues the same in this album as well. But this album comprises only of covers, including a cover of a song of their own fourth album.‘It is a homage, a nod to all those artists who paved the way for us, making it possible for us to do what we do,’ says bass player Chris von Rohr. The idea of such an album was in the heads of the band members since a long time and finally they are executing it.Let’s just get down to the songs straightaway. The opening track is an instrumental rendition of the Sabbath classic “N.I.B”. The guitar harmonies in the middle portion sound eargasmic, but it would have been better if they did the complete song along with the vocals. Up next is Queen’s “Tie Your Mother Down” and Krokus adds a bit of NWOBHM flavour to it and Marc Storace’s vocals do sound a lot like Biff Clyford of Saxon in this one. The next track is a very punk-like version of “My Generation” originally by The Who. The drummer has done a notably magnificent job in this with the fluent rolls. The fourth song is a heavy metal tribute to the 1965 cover of “Wild Thing” by The Trogs. “House Of The Rising Sun”’s cover has already been released as a single for streaming and downloading platforms and it sounds raw and powerful despite keeping the soul of the original song unchanged. The next two songs are also excellent covers of two classics by Neil Young and The Space Davies Group respectively. No rock and roll tribute album can be complete without Led Zeppelin and the eighth song takes that into account. The vocalist almost pulls off a perfect Robert Plant voice in this one and the heavy riffs go along very good with the song. Up next is a very different sounding “Summertime Blues” cover with a 80s old school hard rock feel. Krokus surely knows how to please a classic rock lover and hence did not leave out pulling of a great cover of “Born To Be Wild” in the album, followed by a Dylan and a Stones cover each. The final song is better recorded and mixed version of their own “Backseat Rock N’ Roll” which was released way back in 1980 in ‘Metal Rendez-Vous’ album. The great thing about ‘Big Rocks’ is that the sound is full-on vintage power rock with a touch of blues and without any of the usual studio trickery of today. The band sounds raw and flawless and will be a trip down memory lane for lovers of the rock ‘n’ roll classics.
