Bio:

The Poodles was formed in the fall of 2005 and six months later they participated in the Swedish leg of the Eurovision Song Contest, which led to the band's big breakthrough in their native country. The debut album, "Metal Will Stand Tall", was released shortly thereafter in Sweden, Japan, and Russia. It climbed to the top of the Swedish charts and the first single, "Night of Passion", went gold after only three weeks and achieved platinum status in addition to being the most downloaded song for three weeks straight."Metal Will Stand Tall", contained material written by A-list song writers such as Holly Knight (Tina Turner, Aerosmith, and KISS) and featured two more singles that went top-10 in the Swedish charts.During 2006, the band did more than 100 live shows in Sweden and in January 2007 "Metal Will Stand Tall" was released in Europe on AFM Records. In connection to this, The Poodles toured all over Europe together with Hammerfall and Krokus, doing 31 shows in 18 countries in just 35 days. The band's second effort, "Sweet Trade", was released in September 2007 in Sweden, all of Europe and in Russia and Japan. The single, "Streets of Fire", became the band's biggest selling single to date, achieving double-platinum status. Shortly after the release of "Sweet Trade" The Poodles headed out on yet another tour over Europe together with Swiss rockers "Gotthard". The Poodles then did a head-line tour of their own with 17 sold-out shows throughout Europe. Several of the shows on the tour were upgraded to bigger venues, quite a feat for a band that was formed only two and a half years earlier.Late spring 2008, after having participated a second time in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Line of fire", the band proudly accepted the invitation to record and perform the Official Swedish Theme Song for the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008.The result was "Raise the Banner", which was released on the 15th of July and was the number one hit single in Sweden for most of August 2008.On June 6th 2008, Henrik Bergqvist officially took over the ax-slinging duties from departed Pontus Norgren, premiering at the "Sweden Rock Festival" in front of a crowd of 10.000. This event also marked the launch of one of the biggest summer tours of any Swedish touring act. It spanned over 30 shows all over Sweden and also included a couple of festival shows in Germany. For The Poodles' third album, legendary producer-mixer Mike Fraser (Aerosmith, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Whitesnake) was hired to take on mixing duties. Mats Valentin, a highly gifted Swedish producer and songwriter produced what was to become "Clash of the Elements"."Clash of the Elements" was released on May 20th 2009 in Sweden and on August 28th in the European territories. It featured the top-10 hit single "One out of Ten" and the all-out rocker "I Rule the Night". The album was released in cooperation with Universal and marked a new era in the history of the band.Unsurprisingly, the release of "Clash of the Elements" was followed by extensive touring in both Sweden and mainland Europe. Highlights include Firefest 2009, Rockstad Falun 2010 and Graspop 2010. All in all, The Poodles visited 29 European cities during the fall of 2009 and the spring of 2010.In August 2010, The Poodles formed a partnership with progressive label Frontiers Records in preparation for the release of a Live-album and a Live-DVD as well as an upcoming studio album. The Rockumentary DVD "In the Flesh" and the live CD "No Quarter" were released on November 8th 2010 in all territories and at the same time, work started on the fourth installment of the Poodles' saga."Performocracy" was released by Frontiers Records on April 15th 2011 in all territories. It was #1 in the Swedish album chart on the first week of release and the band promoted the album with extensive touring in their native country. The album was again produced by Mats Valentin, but this time Tobias Lindell (Europe, Mustasch) took on mixing duties. "Cuts like a knife" was the first single off "Performocracy" and the accompanying video was produced by Steve Ravic, who also shot and produced "In the Flesh".Following the success of "Performocracy", the band has chosen to return to an identical set-up for the recording of The Poodles' fifth album, which at this time is without a title. The recording is scheduled to start on February 1st, with a projected release date in May 2013 in all European territories.

Album:

The Poodles is a new band consisting of a bunch of familiar and experienced musicians like Jacob (Talisman, The Ring, Midnight Sun etc), Kicken (Raw, Peter and The Chiefs), Pontus (Great King Rat, Talisman, The Ring, Zan Clan etc), and Pontus (Lion’s Share, Zan Clan etc). The album was released in < ?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Sweden last year, but is now being released in Europe during the band’s European tour supporting Hammerfall.Even if the album has its heavier and darker moments, I’d say that the main part of METAL WILL STAND TALL is a feast of light melodic hard rock and melodic rock with keyboards used in moderation. Therefore, no real metal is on this album so the title is somewhat misleading. The only thing I have to object against is the many musical styles the album has; it’s a very scattered album music-wise, and it’s a little hard to figure out to which area of rock/metal fan this album appeals. The 12 tracks on the album were written by Tommy Denander, Matti Alfonzetti, Marcel Jacob, and Jonas Reingold. There are two covers included as well: the Ultravox cover “Dancing with Tears in My Eyes” and the re-arranged song “Metal Will Stand Tall” that Jacob Samuel originally sang with his former act Midnight Sun. Because of the strong songwriters, the material is extremely solid. Jacob Samuel is an excellent singer and his voice certainly fits well with this kind of music. The musicians are the cream of the Swedish music elite crop, and they sure know how to handle their instruments. My absolute favorite tracks are “Echoes from the Past”, “Metal Will Stand Tall”, “Lie to Me”, “Don’t Give Up on Love”, “Number One”, and “Kingdom of Heaven”. It’s moments like these that make you proud to be Swedish; the band really shows us how proper light melodic hard rock ought to be played. I’m not a fan of ballads, but both “Song for You” and “Crying” kick ass. Both songs have potential to become huge hits worldwide. We then have some songs that don’t really make the cut, like “Night of Passion”, “Shadows”, “Rockstar”, and “Dancing with Tears in My Eyes”; they’re too tame, mellow, and popish as well for a band of this caliber. METAL WILL STAND TALL has sold a great number of copies in Sweden, and it keeps on selling still today. The album was produced by Johan Lyander and Matti Alfonzetti, which unfortunately leaves something to be desired. The album would benefit from edgier guitar playing and a heavier production overall. The Poodles’ great success in Sweden may depend on the fact that their music appeals to both fans of hard rock as well as to fans of ordinary pop/rock music, but I doubt that the hard rock fans outside Sweden are going to buy this. Their success also might come from the fact that the members are well-known musicians in Sweden and that older fans are curious and buy their new stuff.Overall, I do like this album, but it would be nice to hear a little harder and rawer stuff from The Poodles on their next album. Next time it would be nice if the band writes their material on their own, because I know everyone in the band can write good music.

Album:

The Poodles debut 'Metal Will Stand Tall' was one of my top ten releases of 2006. They follow up this great release with 'Sweet Trade,' and they continue to pursue excellent melodic hard rock mixed with a sublime dash of metal. The songs are filled with great melody and fabulous choruses. 'Sweet Trade' begins with a clever number 'Flesh and Bones' that has a mysterious intro which make you wonder what's ahead. And what follows is a tricky melody and a catchy chorus wrapped with an almost pop metal feel recalling the best of 80's melodic rock. When you move onto 'Streets Of Fire' and its heavy rhythm section you know that you are in for some significant musical variety throughout this work. 'Seven Seas' has 'hit single' written all over it. Jakob Samuel excels with dynamic vocals. On both songs, Pontus Norgren really rips it up with some short, but incredible, solos. And this is only the first three songs. Other memorable numbers include 'Thunderball,' a terrific 'balls to the wall' rocker, 'Reach The Sky,' with some subtle Bon Jovi nuances, 'Without You,' a powerful and emotional rocker, and finally, 'Shine,' the only true ballad on the album. It definitely has arena quality sound. In the end, if you were thrilled and satisfied with 'Metal Will Stand Tall,' then you will love 'Sweet Trade.' Essentially, it's more of the same, and that is a very good thing. The Poodles extend their tireless consistency for melodic rock and metal with 'Sweet Trade.' This is a definite must buy!

Album:

This Swedish quartet has been around for some years now. After 3 albums and a single live release, they have a new record by the name of “Performocracy” and it’s sounds killer! The first thing you will notice about THE POODLES is that they look like they were taken out from the L.A. Glam Metal scene of the 80s; dyed hair, makeup, tight pants - all the deal. But on the other hand, they have a modern sound and a modern feel that made them sound unlike it. Their sound is like a twist of MOTLEY CRUE, IRON MAIDEN, BON JOVI and even the early U2 especially on the mellow songs. From the first track, “I Want It All”, this is an original song not to be confused with the QUEEN classic; you will hear that these guys really know what they’re doing. The song has an awesome intro that works really well as the album's intro and set the vibe for the record. In addition, we can also see that the band knows really good how to write catchy choruses even though, the track's chorus is not as strong as the rest of them, but it still sits well. From the beginning to end, this album will take you on a journey through the worlds of Hard Rock, Glam Metal, and Heavy Metal with a very melodic and formidable structure. The songs are catchy, yet not in a Justin Beeber sort of way. These guys can rock hard as seen for example on “Your Time Is Now”, which is the heaviest song on the record, a very powerful Heavy Metal song with a badass riff. On the other hand, they have the power ballads like “As Time Is Passing” that is a great power ballad that truly shows what a great voice Jakob has and so it his range. However, one thing is missing in this song and that is the guitar solo, instead of a guitar solo after the break they go into this catchy vocal break that is cool but from my end, it ruined the build up of the song. So as you all can see, THE POODLES can do it all and do it good.Production wise, the album sounds amazing! All four of the band members are incredible musicians and know how to make the band sound good and not only themselves. Henrik Bergqvist's guitar work is very good, he can do it all and he does it without taking the focus out of the other band members. I especially liked his use of delay and other effects in his rhythm sections. The production of Mats Valentineis great, he achieved a sound that is a mix of a live filling yet very produced and full of effects and synth stuff that make the songs sound depth, and off course with an excellent job. Tobias Lindell did the mixing of the album, this one is really a treat!THE POODLESjust as AVENGED SEVENFOLD, HINDER and CRASHDIET made the music they grow up listening to but put their stand on it and it sounds great, fresh and fun to listen if you like the sub-genre. The only thing that I noticed is that THE POODLES don’t have a line, the songs sound great but their all over the place, which can be good, yet, if this was the debut album of the band it could have gotten the impression that these guys don't have a style of the own. However, their style is Rock N' Roll, and everything that they have done is Rock N' Roll just as MOTORHEAD and IRON MAIDEN always said all throughout their careers.

Album:

THE POODLES is a Glam / Hard Rock band from Stockholm in Sweden. They were formed in the fall of 2005. The debut album “Metal Will Stand Tall” was released in 2006, second effort “Sweet Trade” was released in 2007, third album "Clash of the Elements” in 2009, in 2011 album “Performocracy” and now coming in with the fifth album, "Tour de Force".I have to share it with you that I was thrilled to review this new album as a fan of the band that has been enjoying the power and the energy of their songs. “En För Alla För En”, came as a bonus, took me by surprise that I really liked. It is the official theme song for the Swedish hockey team which will be used when the 2013 World Championships of Ice Hockey visit Stockholm this month. This powerful sing-along result is collaboration between songwriters Anders Wikström (TREAT) and Fredrik Thomander (SCORPIONS, TREAT, GOTTHARD) and THE POODLES. First time I hear the band singing in Swedish. This is amazing lively track and melodic as hell! “40 Days And 40 Nights” is first single of the new album which greatly shows that THE POODLES are still in perfect form, Pop / Rock at its best. “Leaving The Past To Pass” is beautiful ballad, violin & piano with an amazing high climate, choir singing gently as backup. Opener “Misery Loves Company” is another highlight with plenty of power, nice guitars and cheerfulness (though the title), along with fine melodies. “Viva Democracy” is a killer, with low tuned guitars swinging its catchiness all around, love that track with a great build up. Henrik Bergqvist is a master at work, playing tremendous guitar solos and catchy riffs, Jakob Samuel has wonderful strapping voice, force, sensitive, melody and clear. His voice is special no doubt, always easy to recognise that it is Jakob's singing. “Happily Ever After” is another cheery dose groovy bass, sing along for the fans and a peak solo moment.Worth to listen are also: “Now Is The Time” with much dynamism and easiness, “Godspeed” with fantastic stronger riffs and notable solos, melodic “Only Just Begun” with low tuned guitars, catchy “Miracle” with heavier riffs & following last is “Going Down” with several other crunchier slides of fun. This album is a work of art with so many catchy melodies, power and the experience dripping right out of it. The engineering done is so good, I could notice every instrument and channel. Fans of matured Glam Metal and Hard Rock with ounces of melodies will wish to apprehend this one fast.

Album:

Swedish Melodic Hard Rock sensation THE POODLES are back with 'Devil in the Details', their sixth studio album to be released in March 25, and follow-up to the critically acclaimed 'Tour de Force'.Today, The Poodles are presenting the first single off the album entitled “The Greatest”, including the B-side “House Of Cards”.Following the evolution of the band's sound evident on the previous CD, the Poodles continued their collaboration with producer Mats Valentin.“The Greatest” is indeed a great, anthemic midtempo ballad full of magic, while B-side “House Of Cards” shows a groovy, marching melodic rock feel with a punchy riff and a scorching guitar solo. All in all, The Poodles have had over ten 'top 10' singles in Scandinavia so far - which makes them one of Sweden’s most successful Rock bands - and I'm sure this one won't be an exception.

Album:

The Poodles are back with "Prisma", the follow-up to their critically acclaimed album "Devil In The Details"! The Poodles have released seven full-length studio albums and one live album over the past ten years and had discussed the possibility of doing an album featuring songs from other artists for several years. They finally decided that it was time! The title, "Prisma", is meant to reflect the difference in perspective that the band brings to the songs on the album. The decision was made early to stay away from genres close to the band’s own, but other than that, any song could come into question for making the cut. In collaboration with up and coming producer Dino Medanhodzic at Radionica Studios, the band came up with a slate of songs that span some 40 years of music, from the 70s up to the 10s! The deciding factor was the quality of the song where a strong hook and a driving riff were key ingredients. Fans of Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Depeche Mode, Blondie and The Swedish House Mafia are in for a treat, as The Poodles put their unique stamp on classic tracks by these and other artists!
