Bio:

With their first releases "Shakra" (1997), and "Moving Force" (1999), and by touring with Great White and Uriah Heep, the early career of this Swiss band was a steep learning curve with dramatic success but the real breakthrough came with their third record "Power Ride" (2001) when singer Pete Wiedmer was forced to leave the band because of ill health, replaced by Mark Fox. Mark immediately put his stamp on the following album "Rising" (2003), which saw Shakra rise higher on the career ladder than ever before and hit the German and Swiss album charts. The band played several concerts and festivals, one of which was the prestigious "Bang Your Head" event. The controversial video clip for the song "Chains Of Temptation" showed singer Fox giving himself a heroin injection. And, after supporting Iron Maiden at the Swiss "Spirit Of Rock" festival, Shakra then took the decision to tour through 12 countries with HammerFall and Stratovarius. The band played a huge show in Zurich with Guns N' Roses in 2006.Shortly after the Everest album was released, Mark Fox left the band and was replaced by John Prakesh on vocals.New releases include "Back On Track" in Feb 2011 and "Powerplay" in Jan 2013.

Album:

Still carving a path through Switzerland's hard rock territory is Shakra with their ninth long-player, Powerplay. The title is appropriate. This is one of Shakra's heaviest albums, nearing the straight heavy metal side, thanks to an abundance of huge riffs and a pummeling rhythm section. While the riffage is bold and bombastic, Powerplay is not without it's melodic and accessible moments. Life Is Now, the opener, and the later Save You From Yourself, boast that metal heaviness in a quite catchy, hook-laden, arrangement. Then there's the two power ballads, Wonderful Life and Too Good to Be True, where Shakra tones it down revealing their inner mellow side. You also get your best feel for John Prakesh's vocal style, cross between Jon Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams.Mostly, however, Powerplay is simply brisk and bracing heavy rock album from Shakra. Dear Enemy, The Mask, Because of You, to mention some of the other songs here, explode at the start, sometimes racing, and generally rip it up until the end. If you like your hard rock on the metal side of things without dismissing melody and hooks, Shakra's Powerplay is your prescription. Recommended.

Album:

Swiss melodic hard rockers SHAKRA have just released "Life Tales : The Ballads", a limited edition CD comprising the band's most celebrated ballads / midtempo tunes, only available in Switzerland and Germany.Since Shakra debuted in 1998 with their self-titled album, the band has released eleven studio albums and toured all over the world. In addition to their solid brand of melodic hard rock with a classy European feel, Shakra are known for their keen to compose opulent power ballads. Often compared to Gotthard, Shakra's style in the balladry side is much more melodious. The band defined "Life Tales : The Ballads" as 'the ultimate HeartRock album', and while there's their more slow, power ballad tunes we find as well solid midtempo rockers.Alongside the more recent ballads such as 'Love Will Find A Way' (Infected, 2007) and 'Life's What You Need' appeared in their last studio album, it's great to see included old tunes like 'Take My Hand' (Power Ride, 2001), 'I Will Be There' (from 2003's Rising), or the terrific 'Immortal' (Fall, 2005).You can't go wrong with a power ballads album, and Shakra has curated a stupendous collection in "Life Tales : The Ballads".

Album:

On November 10, Shakra will release their new studio record, "Snakes & Ladders". As in the game with the same title, the goal is to climb to the top. This is what Shakra as a band also has in mind. It’s been almost two years since "High Noon" was released, the comeback album with former lead singer Mark Fox back behind the microphone. "High Noon" made it to #2 in the Swiss album charts and also entered the German charts. The haunting melodies, the distinctive voice of Mark Fox, the striking guitar riffs from Thomas Muster, the emotional solos from lead guitarist Thom Blunier and the irrestistible grooves from drummer Roger Tanner and bass player Dominik Pfister are all typical Shakra trademarks, which can be found again on "Snakes & Ladders". The opener "Cassandra‘s Curse", which lyrically is about the current world affairs, is a perfect example of all the trademarks mentioned above. Heavy riffs, an atmospheric verse and a powerful refrain. The kick ass rock song "Friday Nightmare" is followed by the title track "Snakes & Ladders": up & down and the game’s going on. Sometimes you win, sometimes you fall. Sometimes everything just goes smoothly, but there are times when you gotta try again and again to reach your goal. Just roll the dice – at some point you will be where you wanna be!"Together with 'Cassandra’s Curse‘,'Something You Don’t Understand‘ is one of the best songs I’ve ever written", says a very proud Thomas Muster. The song is a great 80s inspired power ballad with an enthralling melody and simple grooves that will stick in your head for sure. All in all there are 12 brand-new Shakra tracks on "Snakes & Ladders". Shout out some singalongs to "The Seeds", feel the blues in "Rollin", listen to the straightrock 'n' roll song "Medicine Man" or just rock out to "I Will Rise Again" and "Fire In My Veins". We are sure every Shakra fan will be more than happy with the album. So SHAKRA are definitely back on track! And by the way, "Snakes & Ladders", their 11th album so far, includes the "Snakes & Ladders" game on CD and vinyl.

Album:

To be released soon, ‘Mad World’ is album number twelve from the Swiss boys SHAKRA and a it’s a special one: they are celebrating a quarter century.I have always considered Shakra as one of the most exciting and fresh sounding bands within the melodic hard rock genre, so I guess it came as a bit of a shock to read that ‘Mad World’ marks their 25th anniversary as a band. Time flies for sure.Even though I still appreciate the early albums as their best I can honestly say that none of the later albums in the Shakra discography has disappointed me. This is of course due to the fact that Shakra always has remained true to what they do best by keep writing catchy and pumping melodic hard rock anthems custom made for the stage and that just seems to stick to the listeners brain like glue. The same thing goes for ‘Mad World’, twelve tracks of pure quality and very well produced no bullshit melodic hard rock.Shakra anno 2020 sounds tighter than ever and singer Mark Fox still has his charismatic voice intact, and I’m already looking forward to the next 25 years of Shakra music.".

Year : 2001 (AFM Records Edition 2005)
Style : Melodic Hard Rock
Country : Switzerland
Audio : 320 kbps + all scans
Size : 114 mb

Album:

'Power Ride' is the third album and many fans called it their best. I tend to agree with it but then I found that most of SHAKRA's albums are in the same quality and quite similar to one another so it's difficult to really pick which one is the best. One thing that's obvious is 'Power Ride' is more melodic than the first two albums and greatly outlines the awesome vocal delivery of Pete Wiedmer.'Why Don't You Call Me' is a monster opener. 'The Sun Will Shine' and 'In Your Eyes' are also equal in strength, and the semi-ballad, 'Out In The Rain', was slipped nicely before they crank this up again with 'Get It All Out'. Muster and Blunier did a fantastic job here with a monstrous riffs and abundant melodies. Probably only 'A Dollar Too Much' that can compete with that song.'She's My Pride' is passable filler and I'm glad that's the only poor thing here. The rest are very solid, from the dark vibe on 'Tell Me' all the way to the heart-pumping, 'The Way Back Home' and 'Too Close'. You'll also be greeted with an outstanding backing vocal and some incinerating solos all the way from first song to the end. The production is also great. If you're new to SHAKRA, take 'Power Ride' for the starter, you won't be disappointed.

Album:

Get ready to unleash your inner rock god with Shakra's new album "Invincible"! Packed with powerful vocals, high-octane riffs, and soulful ballads, this album is a force to be reckoned with. Available in Digipak and colored 2-Vinyl edition, "Invincible" will have every true rock fan headbanging and singing along.Flashback: February 2020. The SHAKRA album “Mad World” is released, and the band is ready for all mischief. And suddenly the world stands still. As if someone had pulled the plug. Just like that. There was a need for a deep breath. But: What do you want to do? It is the way it is.The Way It Is. Well, we can't go out on stage. But writing new songs? That's possible. And while something invisible and sinister is going on out there, massive waves of sound are unfolding in the studio! The Matrix Unfolds! BPM 210, full throttle. With Thom Blunier on lead guitar in top form! That's what it must sound like! While outside the madness rages on. Are we immortal? No. Invincible? No, probably not either. However, in the heads it is fixed: You are Invincible! It's always about not letting yourself be defeated, regardless of what comes your way. But of course, often enough it goes with the devil in this world, then we already let the hell bells ring: The Devil Left Hell! SHAKRA at its best! And then: Even if we all sit at home, we remain restless, curious – and wild! On The Wild Side takes you directly on the highway of life, towards the sun, the hair in the wind. This is what freedom feels like. This is pure rock'n'roll! The airplanes stay on the ground in these times, but a little musical journey north is still possible: The Old Irish Song is born. A cool contrast to the two previous tracks.Take a breather. Reflect. You have to deal with a little heartbreak now and then. OK – Tell Her That I'm Sorry. And then you just lay down and do nothing. As I Lay Down To Sleep. A wonderful, soulful ballad to melt away to. You can feel Mark Fox's voice right under your skin…These months we are not allowed to rock the stages that rule the world, but someday it will start again, promised! Then we'll let it rip even harder: Let's build a House Of Rock! This song will bring us back to the concert halls! And it will let us simply fade out all the mischief out there, which often turns into real Walls Of Hate. This band is far from being at its end, that becomes as clear as day with “Invincible”! Not only Between The Lines is to be read, but rather quite concretely this album shows: The boys of SHAKRA are still in full steam and have still some tricks up in their sleeves. But let's ask Fox himself how long he wants to do this: “You mean the Rock'n'Roll thing? Well – As Long As I'm Alive!” We're happy to leave it at that!
