Created by Bulgarian songwriter Milen Vrabevski, the INTELLIGENT MUSIC PROJECT developed over the years into an international venture. “The Power Of Mind” is the first album from the project featuring talented John Lawton on lead & backing vocals, originally release in 2012, but later remastered / revised.This first installment has been crafted in the form of a rock opera, with Lawton as center focus, with a concept circling around the positive thinking philosophy.Certainly, the album title alone gives a good enough hint at what we’re in for. “The Power of Mind” surprises with rich, rather uncharacteristic arrangements, assembled on bold song structures that successfully pull away from frazzled rock clichés.The album’s conceptual feel is stretched over soothing moments on one side and playful on the other, thus offering a fresh listening.Strong vocal harmonies from Lawton offer hints of the old Uriah Heep and Asia, and in places guitarist Maxim Goranov is both dazzling and sublime. And when fitting piano parts and string arrangements come crawling into the picture it becomes obvious that there enough brain power to support this ambitious project.All over the recording, John Lawton presents a noble presence. He’s really precise on the calmer moments, although his performance on “Max Rock” and “Rock N’ Roll Is My Thing” shows that he can still shake, rattle and roll when situation calls.Accompanied by deft players, he is not particularly keen on exposing himself too much, thus robbing the album of expected vigor, still it all combines at its very best on the rich sounding numbers like “Fairytale” and “Love’s Light Shining”.This is a solid heartwarming debut effort from Intelligent Music Project, more focused in a ‘concept rock’ album than ‘song format’ as we heard on the following recordings.All those dedicated to John Lawton’s immortal credo are bound to have a terrific time with “The Power of Mind”, a very well written, performed and produced piece of work.

Intelligent Music Project’s My Kind O’ Lovin’ is the second offering from composer and producer Dr. Milen Vrabevski. The man’s uplifting lyric and ‘intelligence’ has helped him in gathering top-notch musicians for another concept album he has produced and written. This time around, drum legend Simon Phillips, Toto’s Joseph Williams and ex-Uriah Heepster John Lawton are on board for a lush, well-played sequel.The title track starts us off with plucky acoustic, clean swirling lead lines and duet harmonies between Lawton and Williams. “Friends” follows, showcasing some great vocals, a nice fat bass line, and Phillips’ snappy playing, Even though some of the cringe-worthy lyrics are bit over the top, a song like “Happiness” moves with a semi bossa nova vibe and great harmonies from Williams and Lawton again.One of the better tracks is “Things We Can’t Do,” lifted up by piano and strings with Lawton giving one of his best vocal performances, supported by some meaningful lyrics. “Time To Move Along” is the hottest mover here, with a simple bass, Phillips popping his snare, and some big distorted guitars. “Love Song” mines power ballad territory with a big guitar lead and Lawton at the forefront. “Step In Learnin’” has a Santana-like vibe and subtle piano runs that lift it up from just simple MOR.“Conclusion” concludes a song that sees the full use of Phillips and a composition the good Dr. Vrabevski should be proud of. There’s lots of changes with piano and organ, driving bass and eastern-flavored strings on the mid-section. Given the players, the music could not have sounded any more stellar than it does. I think Dr. Vrabevski mines the same lyrical concepts across all 13 songs, which restricts the album’s potential. My Kind O’ Lovin’ is a decent enough musical read, despite its banal lyrical expression.

The stupendous melodic rock / AOR / classic rock band INTELLIGENT MUSIC PROJECT are releasing its seventh studio album entitled “Unconditioned”. The legendary Simon Phillips (TOTO) returns as percussionist and musical co-producer of the new album, while the lead vocalist on this release is again one of the most popular names in hard rock / metal music today: Ronnie Romero (Rainbow, MSG).This will be Romero’s third album with Intelligent Music Project, and for the first time the group has expanded its compositional approach: two of the songs are entirely the work of Ronnie, guitarist Biser Ivanov and keyboard player Ivo Stefanov.For the first time on “Unconditioned,” the band’s lead singer shows off his skills as a lyricist, having penned the words to those two songs. All the other songs and lyrics are once again the creation of Intelligent Music Project’s founder and executive producer, Dr. Milen Vrabevski. In addition to Phillips and Romero, the album also includes Carl Sentance (Nazareth) on vocals.“Unconditioned” is the more ‘melodic hard rocking’ album from IMP so far, with a pulsating vibe recalling Joe Lynn Turner solo or even the first Sunstorm.
