Bio:

Nobody quite knew what to think of these longhaired, tattooed bikers singing such soulful, yet ballsy, rock music when they arrived on the scene in Los Angeles in 1987. They stood out amongst the "Hair Bands" that populated the music scene at the time....a distinction the band wore as a badge of honor.Much hype surrounded the band as they were managed by music legend Jimmy Iovine, guided by legendary A&R man John Kalodner and produced by Bob Rock. It seemed like a formula for success, yet the band met an unfortunate set of circumstances that left many scratching their heads shortly after the release of their self titled debut album. Many were to speculate why the band never acheived the level of success that their legendary team of backers took as inevitable. Many were to speculate that it was due to the dichotomy between the band's gruff appearance and their sound. The truth was that the band fell prey to an unfortunate set of circumstances that occured in the limited window that bands get to produce sales in, or get exiled in the music business. Three weeks into the bands initial release, Geffen Records was sold, their label Manager left the company, accountants took over, and their records where lost in transit to their new distributors. As sales dropped off due to the lack of product availability, the accountants shut the project down. And so, another band dies....there's always more where they came from in the rough and tumble world that is the music business.Little Caesar, featuring Ron Young (vocals), Jimmy Hayne aka. Apache (guitar), Loren Molinare (guitar), Fidel Paniagua (bass) and Tom Morris (drums), first appeared on Metal Blade’s “Street Survivors” compilation. The band then released a four song EP titled “Name Your Poison” (produced by Joe Hardy of ZZ Top fame), which subsequently led to a deal with Geffen Records. Little Caesar’s eponymous 1990 Geffen debut was produced by the infamous Bob Rock (producer of Metallica’s self titled 1991 multi-platinum release, Motley Crue’s “Dr. Feelgood”, and The Cult’s “Sonic Temple” among others). The album was a no-nonsense collection of hard rock in the vein of ’70s giants like Bad Company and Humble Pie, and was also brimming with classic R&B influences, garnering widespread acceptance and positive reviews from the rock media. It also featured two Motown covers, including a ballsy rendition of the classic Aretha Franklin track, “Chain of Fools,” which hit the Billboard Top 100 chart and received strong airplay nationwide on both rock radio and MTV. The group toured extensively opening for such legendary acts as Jane’s Addiction, KISS, Social Distortion, Iggy Pop, Billy Idol, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. They also headlined their own club tours, and appeared on TV’s popular “Arsenio Hall Show”, “The Rick Dee’s Show”, and MTV’s “Sex in the 90’s”. Vocalist Ron Young was also featured in the movie “Terminator 2” as a tough talking biker that gets into a fight with the film’s star, Arnold Schwarzenegger. 1992 would bring the second full-length album, “Influence”, which would have Earl Slick (of John Lennon, David Bowie, and Ian Hunter fame) replacing Apache on guitar. The “Influence” album was produced by the well respected Howard Benson (who has recently produced releases for platinum artists like Daughtry, Papa Roach, and P.O.D. among others). The band completed its first tour of Europe after the release of the album and drew rave reviews and sold out crowds across multiple countries including a sold out headlining performance at the famous Marquee club in London. As the band slowly recovered from the shock and lessons learned in the nasty world of the music business, they always remained close, as they are a family way before they are a band. They started to do local shows and remember why they loved music and each other. Since the reformation, the band has played high profile shows at venues as House of Blues, California Speedway for NASCAR, and the Rock The Bayou Festival in Houston TX.In 2010, Little Caesar moved forward with a vengeance on a worldwide level with new release titled "Redemption" as well as touring in the US, Europe and the UK. They also introduced new guitar player Joey Brasler (Etta James, Bob Welch, Cherie Currie) as a welcomed addition to their musical line up.In 2012, Little Caesar now releases their latest effort entitled "American Dream". Produced by Bruce Witkin, it's a powerful, no nonsense, guitar driven group of songs, that takes the band to that same warm R&B driven Rock and Roll Universe they call home. They embark on a tour of Spain, Germany, Switzerland and Belgium mid June and will be performing at the Hard Rock Hell festival in Wales in Dec 2012.

Album:

Universal Music Japan has started this year another campaign of their ‘HR/HM 1000‘ series, that meaning the reissue of long time out of print albums from their Hard Rock / Heavy Metal catalog at the price of 1000 Yen = about 9,5 USD.As part of the 2022 HR-HM 1000 Vol.4 series we get LITTLE CAESAR‘s kick ass self-titled album ”Little Caesar”, now available again with a quality pressing and affordable price.Signed by a major record label, with guru John Kalodner doing A&R work, and produced by expert Bob Rock you know what to expect; a big, huge sound with melting clean guitars and reverb all over the place, capturing the band in its hard rocking full force.Soulful bluesy hard rock was all the rage in 1990, with the likes of the Black Crowes, The London Quireboys, Badlands, etc, hitting the charts. Was Little Caesar just one too many bands? They didn’t have the impact of these, though they certainly stacked up in the quality department.Lead howler Ron Young’s lungs are enviable, with a gritty drawl and authenticity to go.“Down-N-Dirty” opens with a clean-punchy mainstream rocking sound unmistakably 1990’s, and the groove continues through “Hard Times” which puts out a killer street rock vibe, able to tangle with any Hollywood competition. Next, the cover of “Chain of Fools” serves to show off Young’s limitless talents, done into a hard rock adaptation.Diversity points are earned for a stellar ballad called “In Your Arms”, delivering on a solid soul vibe. Young’s voice is the focus, revealing depth track after track. There’s a darker turn on “From the Start”, foreboding but with anthemic chorus. The fun “Rock and Roll State of Mind” is a cool, harmonica-inflected blues burner.“Drive it Home” takes the car/sex metaphors to a dirtier level. Another dusky ballad called “Midtown” changes the mood and the groove. A ballad with balls and a banjo? Then, “Cajun Panther” is its own descriptive, but the slippery guitar will hook you right in. The next song, “Wrong Side of the Tracks” is actually closer to the mainstream and rocks with single potential. There’s a unique feel on “I Wish It Would Rain”. It may be another ballad but its southern flavouring make it clearly different from anything on the radio in 1990. “Little Queenie” nails the soulful hard rock vibe one last time, going out in style, but also with a song that doesn’t really sound like a closer. Perhaps a little song shuffling would have put “Little Queenie” in a better spot to showcase its strengths.”Little Caesar” is a strong, bluesy hard rock album with that early ’90s American sound we all love. The band mix commercial tunes with soulful rockers plenty of meat, a record which deserves much more praise than it earned.

Album:

Redemption is Little Caesar's third studio album, released in 2009 on the Dirty Deeds Records label.LITTLE CAESAR, a tatted-up bunch of mean biker boys from Los Angeles, stood out a mile from the big haired, lipstick smeared glam contingent during the late ’80s. They even scored a hit with a cool-as-a-cucumber cover of ‘Chain Of Fools’, a performance that separated the men from the boys by virtue of its pulsating energy and vocalist Ron Young’s gargantuan vocal delivery. After a long hiatus, in 2000’s Ron and the guys reunited and crafted a new album, titled ”Redemption”, a record full of vim and vinegar hard rock. Going back to their roots – not that they ever left them – the emphasis is on tough-guy riffs, blues soaked vocals and the sort of earthy swagger that suggests men on one hell of a mission.Released by themselves in 2009, the next year ”Redemption” was re-released by Rock Candy Records including an extra track and getting European distribution.

Album:

For fans of Little Caesar, Tora Tora, Rhino Bucket and Hard Rock! Little Caesar is most remembered for their version of the soul music song "Chain of Fools", a 1989 hit single from their self-titled debut album. John Kalodner did A&R work for the group, and Bob Rock (Metallica, Motley Crue, etc…) produced their debut self-titled album, which was released in 1990 to positive reviews. On the strength of the singles "Chain of Fools" (a cover of the Aretha Franklin song) and "In Your Arms", Little Caesar hit number 139 on the US Billboard 200 in 1990. Lead vocalist Ron Young made a brief cameo in James Cameron's Terminator 2, as the biker thrown through the window of the bar by Arnold Schwarzenegger. The band reformed for some live shows in 2001, and released their comeback album, ‘Redemption’, in 2009. The album was well received by fans and critics alike. “Redemption, the band’s first new material in 17 years, it sounds as if time has stood still over all these years. An endless stream of middle-aged musicians have returned in the last few years with dreams of recapturing the magic that they once (or never did) possessed, but few have managed to do it as well as Little Caesar….use Redemption as the blueprint for how a band should stage their comeback.” Sleaze Roxx ‘Redemption’ has now been re-mastered and repackaged for this Limited “Deluxe Edition” re-issue, which now features four live ‘Redemption’ tracks including the stand out track “Supersonic”. This is the first of a series of re-issues coming through the bands new imprint label Dirty Deeds Records.

Album:

LITTLE CAESAR released a Bob Rock-produced, self-titled debut through the Geffen Records subsidiary DGC in May 1990. The was a different breed in the hair metal movement fusing a driving hard rock with bluesy and soul elements.Little Caesar always represented ‘substance over style’, which probably led to their commercial failure (and null label support) in the hair-spray fog of the late ’80s.An endless stream of middle-aged musicians have returned in the last few years with dreams of recapturing the magic that they once (or never did) possessed, but few have managed to do it as well as Little Caesar.Of course few bands have a vocalist with the talent of Ron Young, whose bluesy and soulful voice always set this band at the top of the hard rock heap. After the good comeback with 2009’s ‘Redemption’, with their brand new CD “American Dream” Little Caesar sounds as if time has stood still over all these years. The only things missing from the current version of Little Caesar are original guitarist Apache and the long flowing hair. The sound is practically identical to what they sounded like ages ago. They were never the heaviest band in town, and they still aren’t. What they are, and always have been, is a bluesy hard rock band that writes quality songs. The album kicks off with “Holly Roller”, indeed a rolling rocker full of swagger, valvular amp guitars and feel-good vibe. From there we get taken through a course of Classic (hard) Rock songs, short, catchy and effective, as the title track “American Dream”, which is driven by a simple but contagious American-trademark riff.“Hard Rock Hell” is great hard rocker featuring very a classy vocaliztion by Ron Young, a fun chorus and a direct-to-amp hot six-tring solo. You just can’t love this tune. It reminds me the super-group Manic Eden (featuring James Christian, Adrian Vandenberg, Rudy Sarzo and Tommy Aldridge) who, incidentally, Ron Young went on to sing for.“Prisoner Of Love” offers a more bluesy rock in a midtempo form. The main melody is strong and intense, builded over a tight instrumentation.“In My Mirror” keeps things going with a steady and groovy guitar riff throughout before Ron Young shows how a ballad should be properly handled with “Only A Memory Away”, a song that has, again, a Manic Eden feel to it. Fantastic tune.“Own Worst Enemy” is another good twinkling classic rocker, followed by the sweaty “Drama Queen”, before ending the disc with the catchy, southern tingled “Dirty Water”.Little Caesar have always managed to set themselves apart from the crowd, and continue to do it today.Since the previous album the band decided to release their music on their own, apart from the pressures and influence of record companies. It is no longer about fame and fortune for the members of Little Caesar, it is simply about releasing quality music to the fans of the classy, eternal Classic Rock.In times when most mainstream music is poluted with crappy sounds, we should be thanking Little Caesar for the release of an album like this, and every other musician that once had teased-hair and tight pants should use “American Dream” as the blueprint for how a band should stage their comeback to the new millenium.

Album:

Little Caesar have announced they’ll release a double live album next month.Brutally Honest: Live From Holland will launch on May 6 via Unison. It was recorded at Muziekcentrum De Bosuil, Weert, Netherlands on June 20 last year. The band say of the record: “It captures a moment in time where our adoration for the power of music, with all its subtle imperfections, combined with a welcoming audience, create an experience that will never occur again.“We hope you enjoy it and we hope to get to enjoy a similar exchange with you – in person – so that we can get to make great music with you all. Without you, your love of music and your support of Little Caesar, we would never get the gift of that cherished exchange.”Brutally Honest: Live From Holland is available for pre-order, while the band will head out on tour next month across Europe.Rock and roll is full of stories, sometimes shovelled with copious amounts of bullshit and other times just the simple truth is enough to provide shock and awe. There is nothing I love more than getting to share one of these tales, so come gather round and let me tell you one particular cool story about some long-haired tattooed rockers…I often refer to the 80’s as the golden age of heavy metal. By 1983 (also the year I turned 13) melodic heavy metal was breaking down the mainstream barriers. Quiet Riot, Def Leppard, and Motley Crue led the charge and the rest of the decade became a tsunami of denim, leather, and spandex as the record companies went on a feeding frenzy to the smell of big money. As a metal-loving teenager like myself, it was simply a wonderful time to be alive as both radio and MTV provided a steady stream of long hair rock and roll! So it was sometime in 1990 when I would first set my ears upon the band, Little Caesar. It was most likely via Much Music (Canada’s answer to MTV) when they started airing the incredible hard rock cover of Aretha Franklin‘s “Chain of Fools”. Loving this version, I quickly added their debut, self-titled CD to my collection.Signed to Geffen Records, managed by Jimmy Iovine and produced by Bob Rock! This was a veritable dream team with a track record of epic proportions, yet in the words of April Wine, “Rock and Roll is a Vicious Game”. More accurately the “business” end of rock and roll is a vicious game and just as Little Caesar were poised for rock stardom they found themselves buried in an avalanche of record company politics that literally pulled the rug out from under them. Geffen was sold, the label Manager quit, the suits took over and in a nutshell, a great record was quite honestly hung out to dry.The band soldiered on and a second album, Influence, was released in 1992. To be honest, by this time the grunge movement was starting to temporarily erase everything even remotely resembling eighties. I don’t even remember seeing this second record and in a world pre-internet, Little Caesar dropped off my radar. The band disbanded soon thereafter as simply another rock and roll casualty.I can only imagine the sour taste left behind from the big deal gone wrong, but time heals all wounds and the brotherhood that was Little Caesar thankfully remained intact. So after some years apart the guys began to realize how much they missed making music together and they started booking some local shows. Two studio albums followed, 2009’s Redemption and 2012’s American Dream both highlight their signature bluesy influenced hard rock and both recorded sans big money record contract, big money management and big money production but none of that matters. These records seem to reflect a band that are comfortable in their own skin. A lot less hair and possibly a few extra tattoos, they are in the game for the love of rock and roll!LC 2So now that we are up to speed, next week (May 6th) Little Caesar is set to release Brutally Honest – Live In Holland, a double live album recorded last June during their European tour. Titled Brutally Honest because the album is truly that, a live concert captured totally live. No overdubs, no touch ups, no fixes, this is Little Caesar as they sounded on a June night on a sweaty stage last year. Not always the best method to capture a live album (Van Halen‘s Live At The Tokyo Dome comes to mind) but it’s totally something I would expect from Ron and Little Caesar. Honest rock and roll, warts and all is exactly what these guys represent.I love Ron Young‘s intro, “Hi we are Little Caesar, it’s great to fucking be here. Thanks for coming, you honour us with your presence. Let’s fucking rock!”. There is just something incredibly sincere in his tone, it comes across that they truly appreciate getting to play rock and roll. From the intro they blast into “Supersonic” from the Redemption album and immediately I am impressed with the sound quality of the record. It sounds incredibly full and balanced perfectly, giving you the feeling that you are actually in the club with them. I can almost smell the scent of whiskey and stale beer, big kudos to the sound crew and production teams.Brutally Honest is a total career spanning double live album that delivers the goods, all 21 tracks of it! Hard to pick highlights as I prefer to listen to live albums in their entirety but “Hard Times”, “American Dream” and a really soulful version of “I Wish It Would Rain” are three that really deserve some attention. The cover medley of “Every Picture Tells A Story/Happy” is a killer homage to some rock and roll heroes and was a bonus for me as “Happy” is my personal favourite Rolling Stones song.A five song encore starting with the blues soaked “Dirty Water” closes out the album. “In Your Arms” could very well be one of the greatest power ballads ever penned, and the live treatment it receives here is possibly more gut wrenching than the original studio version and the tidbit of Ike and Tina‘s “Rolling on a River” was a cool addition. As every great band knows though, you can’t (or should never!) end on a ballad so they pulled out “Down to the Wire”. A barn burning rocker that was found on the soundtrack for the movie Point Break, a killer ending to a solid show.Brutally Honest – Live in Holland is a live album that captures the true essence of rock and roll. Real musicians, playing real songs on real instruments. A stark and wonderful contrast to today’s computerized, auto-tuned dribble that we are force fed on the airwaves. Long live real rock & roll and long live Little Caesar! “Rum and Coke” anyone?

Album:

American melodic hard rockers LITTLE CAESAR have signed a global deal with Golden Robot Records for the release of their new album, "Eight", on March 16."Eight" is the band's first studio album in six years, and lead single 'Time Enough For That' is a reflective, semi power ballad that is a total lighters (or phones) in the air midtempo melodic rock smash with that late '80s feel intact, as the entire record.Little Caesar were a band largely apart from the Hollywood scene of the day musically, though they did have approximate peers in bands like Junkyard, Rock City Angels and Salty Dog, though in truth none of those bands had the smooth rumble or sheer class of Little Caesar in full flight. For me, Little Caesar are one of those bands that can do little wrong. They fall into this ultra rare and very special place, they deliver soulful straight ahead hard driving melodic rock and roll and they sound like they are having a blast doing it.So just like cracking open that ice cold bottle of Coca-Cola, I know exactly what to expect from a new Little Caesar record and my tastebuds are anxious for a taste. The 1-2-3 punch of '21 Again', 'Mama Tried' and my personal favorite 'Vegas' make a great triple-track start. On an album that throws a few gentle but effective curve balls ‘Mama Tried’ picks up the pace and introduces a hint of Country to a down home tale of woe, it's simple, direct and irresistible.‘Vegas’ takes us back to a more familiar neighborhood, sets up a righteous Little Caesar groove, with great guitars and trademark harmonies, it has all that you want from the band with the swagger of their debut and the confidence of age, it’s all wrapped up in a great tale of the City of Sin.'Crushed Velvet’ that follows is a little more introspective and its dark groove give room for lead vocals to, oppositely, shine.‘Good Times’ then offers up a dirtier riff and it’s that patina that always been a big part of the charm of Little Caesar. To provide variation, 'Straight Shooter'” is as close you will get to anything modern sounding, a balls-out rocker with a punchy riff. The slow and smokey ballad ‘Time Enough for That’ does what Little Caesar always did best of all – gently unfolding a sweet soulful song with a gentle melody, dripping in emotion that fits beautifully in the lineage of tracks classic like ‘From the Start’ or ‘I Wish It Would Rain’.I purposely skipped track 6, 'Time Enough For That' which I just learned is the first single from the record. An absolutely gorgeous mid-tempo rocker that lyrically kills it. Encouraging us to hold on to the good things in our lives and live more in the moment. Ron Young is far and away one of the most soulful rock vocalists alive. For those that are looking for stripped down melodic rock, honest, with no fluff, no gimmicks, and no excuses, Little Caesar's "Little Caesar" is for you. It's all blood and wood, no electronics here, no bombast, but wrapped by a very well polished melodious production.

Album:

Hard Rockers LITTLE CAESAR recently reissued their albums ‘Redemption’ and ‘American Dream’, both remastered and repackaged for a limited deluxe edition featuring bonus tracks. Due to the great response to those releases, they are now remastering and reissuing 1998’s ”This Time It’s Different” in its entirety, also featuring brand new artwork.“This Time It’s Different” is a collection of previously unreleased studio recordings and 2 live performances from the band’s heyday. These aren’t discarded songs or demos but top class produced tracks, originally not used as the overall bluesy sound (and some inappropriate language) didn’t fit the ‘major label’ standards. Fans of Great White or Tesla will love the songs into “This Time It’s Different”.So this is material from the late ’80s / early ’90s featuring the classic LITTLE CAESAR line up of Ron Young, Loren Molinare, Tom Morris, Fidel Paniagua, as well as terrific guitarist Earl Slick (David Bowie, John Lennon), and a guest appearance by legendary Randy Bachman (The Guess Who, Bachman-Turner Overdrive).Ron Young had this to say, “We are excited to re-release these oddball gems. It’s sort of a behind the scenes look into our music and features some songs that had alternate lyrics, arrangements, and tracks that the corporate ears passed on for a major release.”This is the third in a series of reissues coming through the band’s new imprint label Dirty Deeds Records.Little Caesar find themselves in prior to embarking on their upcoming European Tour 2022 which starts next September.
