Bio:

Edward Joseph Mahoney (March 21, 1949 – September 13, 2019), known professionally as Eddie Money, was an American singer and songwriter who, in the 1970s and 1980s, had eleven Top 40 songs, including "Baby Hold On", "Two Tickets to Paradise", "Think I'm in Love", "Shakin'", "Take Me Home Tonight", "I Wanna Go Back", "Walk on Water", and "The Love in Your Eyes". Critic Neil Genzlinger of the New York Times called him a working-class rocker and Kristin Hall of the Associated Press stated he had a husky voice. In 1987, he was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance for "Take Me Home Tonight".

Album:

EDDIE MONEY‘s most famous album, his self-titled debut fully remastered including the hits ‘Two Tickets To Paradise’ and ‘Baby Hold On’.After signing a recording contract with Columbia Records, Eddie Mahoney burst onto the scene with his eponymous debut album in 1977. Fans immediately fell in love with Money’s sound, and the album went double platinum.“Eddie Money” was produced by former Doors alumni Bruce Botnick, with able assistance from famed engineers Andy Johns (Led Zeppelin) and Mike Clink (Guns N’ Roses). It also featured musical support from members of the Steve Miller Band and introduced guitarist Jimmy Lyon, a man who would act as the perfect foil for Eddie’s instantly identifiable voice. The album opens with a bopping Rock winner : “Two Tickets To Paradise” – an EM original about waiting to talk his gal on a trip – get away from the grim reality of the big city choke. His Soulful cover of the Smokey Robinson and The Miracles classic “You’ve Really Got A Hold On Me” is a fantastic groove brought to life by a trio – his passionate vocals, and Jimmy Lyons on guitar fire.Songwriter Chris Solsberg would co-write a lot with Eddie on the 1979 “Life For The Taking” LP – for the debut he throws in another cracking ‘rocker’ – the mission statement “Wanna Be A Rock ‘n’ Roll Star”. It’s garage vocals and guitars sound brill on the Remaster.“Save A Little Room In Your Heart For Me” is the big ballad – a keyboard led pleader which hit you with a ‘touching’ melody. Then there’s a wicked co-write with Jimmy Lyon – the dancing castanets of “So Good To Be In Love Again” – a hugely likeable song that could easily have been another radio hit.We have the album’s other winner – the catchy “Baby Hold On”. It entered the US singles charts in April 1978 eventually rising to No. 11 – staying on the charts for eleven weeks (“Two Tickets To Paradise” followed in July 1978 peaking at No. 22).The next EM/Jimmy Lyon song “Don’t Worry” sounds like a different band in ways, while the wrongly-spelt “Jealousys” gets back to hooky business in a big way. Eddie goes all Jimi Hendrix with the doubled-vocal and guitar opening of “Got To Get Another Girl” – another song about a Rock ‘n’ Roller who can’t control her (oh dear).Gamblin Man” is co-written with Dan Alexander of The Rockets and ends the album on an upbeat Rock pump.Although released in the autumn of 1977 – “Eddie Money” didn’t dent the US Top 200 until the first week of July in 1978 where it began a slow climb to eventually peak at No. 39 – staying on chart for an impressive 46 weeks. It was the beginning Eddie needed because the second platter “Life For The Taking” would go Top 20 in 1979 – peaking at No. 17.Fans will also know that less than a handful of tracks from “Eddie Money” have been available on a ‘Greatest Hits’ set as Remasters and that this is the first time the entire album has been remastered in full (ditto for the other three).Experienced Audio Engineer Jon Astley (The Who, Pete Townshend, Tears For Fears, The Boomtown Rats, Bad Company and more) has handled the 24-bit Digital Remaster from original tapes at ‘Close To The Edge’ Mastering in Twickenham, England – and this sucker ‘rocks’ for all the right reasons.

Album:

EDDIE MONEY‘s “No Control“, one of his best albums from the Eighties with that wonderful 1982’s US Melodic Rock / AOR sound.MONEY’s life was turned upside down by the runaway success of his self-titled debut album. The fast-talkin’ New Yorker spent fifteen years chasing his dreams of Rock stardom, first in bands on his native East Coast, then right across the other side of the country following a move to Berkeley, California. The two following LP’s certainly set the scene: panoramic American Melodic Rock filled with memorable hooks supporting an instantly identifiable rasp.It was a tailor made sound that perfectly fitted the American airwaves at the beginning of the Eighties sitting comfortably besides music from the likes of Boston, Foreigner and Journey.Looking expand his success even further, Eddie switch to work with a new producer – the revered Tom Dowd (Chicago, Eric Clapton) – for his fourth album “No Control”, to provide and even more organic and polished AOR sound.Above all else, it was the quality of the songs that gave the record a golden hue and the glossy production made it shoe-in for saturation play on FM radio.Chief amongst the best tracks were the two hit singles “Think I’m In Love” and “Shakin`” or the awesome AOR midtempo “Hard Life”, but there were deeper songs to explore such as the John Bellushi tribute “Passing By The Graveyard (Song For John B)” and the melodic ‘n bluesy “It Could Happen To You”.With the continued presence of guitar foil Jimmy Lyons, “No Control” shot Eddie into the spotlight, notching up sales in excess of 3 Million and establishing him as one of the era’s most prolific stars. This is another great remastering by Rock Candy specialists from the original source tapes @ 24-bit, well balanced on all frequencies.

Album:

EDDIE MONEY 1980’s album “Playing For Keeps”, fully remastered shaped from 24 BIT digital technology.Eddie’s s first two albums certainly set the scene: panoramic melodic hard rock filled with memorable hooks supporting an instantly identifiable rasp. It was a tailor made sound that perfectly fitted the American airwaves sitting comfortably besides music from the likes of Boston, Foreigner and Journey. A reliable style that served Eddie well and it was masterfully replicated on this, his third, album.Originally issued in 1980, ”Playing For Keeps” took the original Money format one stage further, upping the stakes by utilising producer in Ron Nevison. Nevison, of course, was the flavour of the time having learnt his craft engineering Led Zeppelin and The Who before embarking on a career guiding some of the world s most successful AOR albums including records from Jefferson Starship, Survivor and Heart.Keeping the basics of his band in place (including super-guitarist Jimmy Lyons) the tracks were augmented by a number of high profile guests, including legendary drummer Carmine Appice.Highlights include the classic Money rocker ‘The Wish’ (one of his best tracks), melodic midtempo opener ‘Trinidad’, the great ‘highway’ song ‘Get a Move On’, the pure Eddie melodic rocker ‘When You Took My Heart’, the driving ‘Satin Angel’ (love the guitar work here), and the FM AOR ballad ‘Let’s Be Lovers Again’ is a duo with the superb Valerie Carter. On ‘Running Back’, Eddie try something different with a pop-semi-reggea rhtyhm that isn’t half bad, and now in perspective it’s cool, yet not classic Eddie Money. While ‘Playing For Keeps’ wasn’t successful in sales as his previous LP’s, it was not for its lack of quality. The album includes some very good rockers and Money’s soulful vocal and high energy delivery as usual. That Eddie Money is one of the best performers of his generation is in no doubt, with ‘Playing For Keeps’ solidly reinforcing that assertion.

Album:

Rock Candy specialists reissued / remastered all EDDIE MONEY early albums, and 1983’s “Where’s The Party?” is one of the singer’s most sounding AOR records. When “Where’s The Party?” was released, Eddie Money was a hugely successful and famous artist with a string of hit singles and platinum albums to his name. Eddie’s raspy tones and his penchant for earthy blue collar rock had served him well, yet his lust for living life to the full had, before the release of his last album, taken a turn for the worse when ill-health nearly ruined his good fortune.Luckily, Eddie continued to recover from this health set back and commenced the recording his fifth album “Where’s The Party?”, an album largely produced, as was his previous platinum smash ‘No Control’, by veteran studio wizard Tom Dowd (Kenny Loggins, Chicago) in Los Angeles.Surrounded by a number of top sessions players including guitarist Steve Farris (Mr. Mister), great drummer Gary Ferguson, superb keyboardist Alan Pasqua, and members from The Steve Miller Band and Rod Stewart’s band, the recordings where carefully supervised to extreme detail. In keeping with previous albums Eddie co-wrote a selection of radio friendly, tough-guy rock melodic tracks that gave full reign to his mellifluous voice.Songs such as “The Big Crash”, “Club Michelle”, the catchy “Bad Girls” or the synth based, midtempo “Back On The Road” it firmly into the Money trademark sound of solid riffs and big shout-it-loud hooks. And there’s “Backtrack”, a different beast from the Money’s standard. The song, the only produced by Spencer Proffer (Quiet Riot) is an atmospheric rocker with an intense cadence, piano breaks, crying guitars and Eddie’s delivering an emotive vocal performance. One of my favorite Eddie Money songs ever.Indeed, as one of the best male vocalists of the era, on this record Eddie stands out like a sparkling diamond. This remaster from Rock Candy is good, really warm. I would have preferred a more bright output, but seems they wanted a sound similar to a vinyl LP. Even the mastering respects the pretty long fade out as it’s on the original LP version.Pretty overlooked at its time, “Where’s The Party?” is now regarded as one of Eddie Money’s finest moments.

Line-Up:

Eddie Money – vocals, sax, piano
John Nelson – guitars
Steve Farris – guitars
Frank Linx – guitars
Jimmy Lyon – guitar
Ralph Carter – bass, rhythm guitar
Michael Botts – drums, percussion
Gary Ferguson – drums
Gary Mallaber – drums
Art Wood – drums
Randy Nichols – Hammond B3, synthesizers
Duane Hitchings – synthesizers
Mitchell Froom – keyboards
Alan Pasqua – keyboards
Paulinho Da Costa – percussion

Album:

Rock Candy specialists already re-issued EDDIE MONEY‘s early albums, now they’re presenting ‘Remastered & Reloaded’ versions of Eddie ’80s more AOR recordings.“Can’t Hold Back” is by far, our favorite Eddie Money album from the ’80s.You can say what you want about American rock in the ’80s, but it was mostly all about feeding FM radio with huge hit singles. That was something Eddie Money had plenty of experience of, having scored a not inconsiderable amount of bonafide hits and airplay since he started recording during the previous decade. For Eddie, every move was calculated for maximum commercial impact, which more often than not meant wrapping his raspy voice around the best songs possible.“Can’t Hold Back” was Eddie Money’s sixth album and the first to be produced by Richie Zito, a man with an impressive resume including crafting records by Cheap Trick, Heart, Bad English and The Cult.Issued in 1986, the album moved Eddie’s career firmly back in the spotlight, giving rise to no less than three hit singles, including ‘I Wanna Go Back’ and ‘Endless Nights’. However it was the killer track ‘Take Me Home Tonight’ that put the icing on this particular cake, with Eddie duetting with iconic vocalist Ronnie Spector. The result of the collaboration and accompanying video was spectacular, helping to send the track to #4 on the US singles chart.Joined by the cream of the session world including bassist Randy Jackson (Journey), drummer Mike Baird (Michael Bolton) and keyboard maestro Steve George (Mr. Mister), on “Can’t Hold Back” Eddie’s voice is triumphant and the material is first class.Every reason to believe, in fact, that this album is the pinnacle of Eddie’s career. This Rock Candy Deluxe Collector’s Edition delivers a full dynamic sound, brightly remastered from the original tapes.

Line-Up:

Eddie Money – vocals, keyboards, synths
Richie Zito – guitars, keyboards, synths
Duncan Rowe, John Nelson – guitars
Arthur Barrow – keyboards, bass
Randy Jackson, Greg Lowry, Nathan East – bass
Steve George – keyboards, backing vocals
