Actually there were no plans for a reunion at that moment but things went very smooth and we kind of got back the old "Silver Haze" feeling and here we are.- The new record is back to the roots, no frills, just full throttle real QUILL rock! The lyrics are based on my life and things in life like, birth, death, sorrow and happiness, and I think that everyone can relate to that. First time we got together in the rehearsal room and jammed at a couple of old songs it was like we never been apart, says Christian Carlsson. We just picked up from where we left off.- Set Free Black Crow was the first tune we wrote and I think we managed to squeeze in everything about THE QUILL in that one, says JolleAtlagic.- Getting together again was very inspiring and new material was flowing out of our brains, endlessly, says Roger Nilsson.- After two months on the road with Monster Magnet and all big European festivals on top of that we had achieved pretty much everything we aimed for. It was hard to reload and we slowly drifted apart as a band, it obviously took us 10 years to recover, says Christian.

Album:

At the risk of being too self-referential i note that when I reviewed the previous Quill album I said these two things, namely that the album was, "a bit of a groove-based winner," and, "There are times when we all need something with a bit of a groove in our lives and next time I require one I'll be reaching for Full Circle.". I'm pleased to report that both these things remain true of The Quill. The band clearly hasn't spent the last two years delving into electro pop of other popular genres de jour. Nope, these boys like it in a 1970s style and there's much to recommend within the grooves of Tiger Blood.There's touches of Stoner Rock and Southern Rock on offer and occasionally The Quill venture into much heavier Clutch style territory although on tracks such as "Purgatory Hill" a certain degree of poppiness emerges. Arguably the strongest part of the album is the quiet "Land of Gold and Honey" combining with the much heavier "Darkest Moon". If anything this shows that The Quill aren't just content to pummel the listener with stoner vibes, there's much more to them than that.

They're back! The Swedish based juggernaut known as The Quill return with their original line up, Magnus Ekwall on vocals, Christian Carlsson on guitars, Roger Nilsson on bass and Jolle Atlagic on drums. The classic lineup, who made the albums, 'Silver Haze', 'Voodoo Caravan' and 'Hooray! It´s a Deathtrip' have reunited to unleash their new studio album, 'Born From Fire' and it's a MONSTER! There's just a little bit of me which will be forever stuck in the early seventies. I just can't help it! The same could be said of The Quill. Their new album is like hitting play and stepping out of a time capsule fully-formed and loaded with riffs that would make Tony Iommi proud. Magnus Ekwall is powerful singer with a strapping pair of lungs which he deploys with just the right amount of intensity which these twelve songs on this album demand. When he opens up and lets rip, as he does convincingly on "Stone Believer", he is also capable of restraint as he demonstrates on "Set Free Black Crow". Christian Carlsson certainly delivers the goods in the riff department. There are some absolutely huge ones to deal with here, "Snake Charmer Woman", "The Spirit And The Spark" and "Hollow Of Your Hand". 'Burn From Fire' is a new chapter for The Quill and it’s hard to imagine any fans of this band not liking it. Whether you’re into the classics like Sabbath, Deep Purple and Uriah Heep or the later generation bands like Orange Goblin, The Sword and Graveyard, you’ll want to check out The Quill and this album is a great starting point.

The ninth studio album from the Swedish hard rock institution. With a sound based on a wide range of influences, The Quill have released one quality album after another since their debut in 1995. The dynamic interplay between original vocalist Magnus Ekwall, drummer Jolle Atlagic (Hanoi Rocks, Electric Boys, Firebird), guitarist Christian Carlsson and bassist Roger Nilsson (Spiritual Beggars, Firebird) creates The Quill's unique, deep 70s heavy rock. No frills, just real rock at full throttle! The new songs like "Hallucinate" or "Keep On Moving" are bursting with confidence and adrenaline. "Left Brain Blues" and the title track "Earthrise" are reminiscent of Black Sabbath in their heyday. While tracks like "Dwarf Planet" and "Evil Omen" revive the heavy / psychedelic sides of early Led Zeppelin or Uriah Heep. The new songs tell stories of alienation set in the confines of space and time. Perhaps not a surprising theme given the state of the world today. But it's also a theme that runs through the entire history of mankind so far.Packed with catchy riffs, pounding bass lines and a fantastic frontman, this album will once again delight all fans of honest hard rock.As time passes by, there are bands that became strong names in their respective Metal/Rock genres. They become what can be called institutions due the recognition to their work, and maybe to their resilience to the passage of time. And the Swedish quartet THE QUILL seems to have both aspects at their side, because “Earthside” is an amazing release.Even after 26 years since their first album, “The Quill”, they still bear a fine mix between classic Hard Rock with aspects of Stoner Metal/Rock, and clear Bluesy touch in many parts (especially on the vocals tunes). It’s strong, massive, heavy and organic, but it’s far from being something ‘out-of-date’, because their music sounds alive, full of energy, and filled with amazing melodies and great choruses. And besides its organic weight, their music has a clear accessible appeal, in a way that’s easy for any fan of music (even those that aren’t into Metal or Rock) like what they play.The quartet once more worked on the album having the assistance of Erik Nilsson (from 491 Studio in Oskarshamn, Sweden), who worked with them on “Born From Fire”. And things worked great once more, because the sonority is basic and really has an organic feeling coming from it, but in a modern and defined way that allows the fans to understand what’s being expressed by the band, and earn their songs a boost on weight,All the album’s songs are really great, but for those that aren’t introduced to these veterans (that has names as AYREON, HANOI ROCKS, ELECTRIC BOYS, SPIRITUAL BEGGARS, and ARCH ENEMY), their best offerings to the ears are “Hallucinate” (excellent vocals and melodies created by the guitars), “Keep On Moving” (catchy accessible parts, adorned with a fine rhythmic work created by bass guitar and drums), “Dwarf Planet” (this one begins like a ballad, then becomes a heavy weight song with clear influences from BLACK SABBATH), “Left Brain Blues” (a modern and abrasive Hard/Stoner Metal, with great musical arrangements), “Earthrise” (it has some bluesy touches, but the melodies are easy to like on the first hearing), “Evil Omen” (a long song with charming contrasts between accessible and heavier moments), and… Well, the best thing to do is to hear the entire album, because there aren’t best songs, because all the songs are best songs!“Earthrise” is truly a great album, and THE QUILL comes to be a candidate to be in the top10 of every fan at the end of this year.

Digging through old boxes, you find stuff you’ve totally forgotten about – and every once in a while, you find old nuggets well worth rediscovering again. And when you’ve been active as a band for a long time, you always find songs that didn’t fit into the usual album format.With “Live, New, Borrowed, Blue” (Metalville Records) THE QUILL will release a personal selection of unreleased song treasures from their long career on 28.01.2022. Also in January 2022, the band will go on club tour in Europe.Digging through old boxes you find stuff you’ve totally forgotten about – and every once in a while you find old nuggets well worth rediscovering again. And when you’ve been active as a band for a long time, you always find songs that didn’t fit into the usual album format. For the reasons we know, THE QUILL had a lot of free time last year to look through the remaining tracks to shorten the waiting time for the next studio album for the fans. “Live, New, Borrowed, Blue” contains tracks from the sessions for the last album “Earthrise” as well as some cover songs that THE QUILL recorded in the late 90s for various tribute albums that are now long out of print. As a kind of icing on the cake, there are also two live tracks from the Sweden Rock Festival 2019, as a reminder of this fantastic performance.

The iconic Swedish hard rock band THE QUILL will release their new studio album, ”Wheel Of Illusion”, on 29th March through Metalville Records, where they unveil their musical prowess. With a storied history dating back to the early ’90s, The Quill has consistently pushed boundaries, blending powerful riffs and soulful melodies.”Wheel Of Illusion” should be their most accessible album to date, a bit on the lighter side of metal with pretty catchy choruses. There’s a bit of basic rock n’ roll on this upcoming album which hasn’t been present in The Quill‘s sound for quite some time.Not to be confused with Quill, the UK band who’ve been together since the Seventies – this Swedish hard rock / Sabbath influenced band has been putting albums out on the continent since 1995.
