The Winery Dogs is an American rock supergroup formed in Los Angeles, California, United States, in 2012 by Mike Portnoy, Billy Sheehan and Richie Kotzen.The whole band started out as a project. Mike Portnoy and Billy Sheehan ended one project and were about to start a new one. They needed a lead singer/guitarist to fill the spot. Eddie Trunk heard about this and suggest Richie Kotzen to them. Billy Sheehan and Richie Kotzen have played together before in a band called "Mr. Big" so Billy Sheehan knew that Richie Kotzen could potentially fill the spot.They got together at a studio in Los Angeles and at the end of the jam session, they had a few skeletons of songs that would appear on the debut album. The band members all felt there was a chemistry between each other so they decided to record an album together. After their first album having success, they released a live concert DVD called "Unleashed in Japan 2013: The Winery Dogs." Prior to the Winery Dogs, all three members have had success with other bands. Richie Kotzen was known for playing in the band Poison and Mr. Big. Billy Sheehan is known for playing with Steve Vai, David Lee Roth, Talas, and Mr. Big. Mike Portnoy is known for being the drummer in Dream Theater, Avenged Sevenfold, and the Adrenaline Mob.When asked about the band's main influences, Mike Portnoy commented that they are working towards a classic rock sound, influenced by Led Zeppelin, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Grand Funk Railroad, as well as newer artists such as Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Black Crowes and Lenny Kravitz.The band's self-titled debut album was released in Japan on May 5, 2013 through Victor subsidiary WHD Entertainment, with a worldwide release following on July 23, 2013 through Loud & Proud Records.It was produced by Jay Ruston. It features 13 songs and they switched out the song "Time Machine" with the song "Criminal" for the Japan Edition.In June 2015, the band entered a studio around Los Angeles to record their sophomore album.In a July interview, Portnoy said the album was about to begin mixing that month, and it should be released before they begin their October tour.According to Amazon.co.uk, The Winery Dogs second album will be called Hot Streak and will be released on October 2, 2015.The Winery Dogs also have a band clinic in the summer called "Dog Camp." This camp allows musicians and fans to come meet, jam and learn from the Winery Dogs. Not only does it include individual clinics, but it also incorporates a band setting as well.

Richie Kotzen, Mike Portnoy and Billy Sheehan or THE WINERY DOGS are on a "Hot Streak", according to the title of their new album to be released next October 2.The trio first exploded onto the Rock scene with their self-titled, self-produced and critically acclaimed debut album two years ago, which cracked the top 10 on five different music charts and their shows were one of the most sought after (and sold out) events of last year. The Winery Dogs now return their sophomore album "Hot Streak", which simply put, is exactly what this band is on. With the uncertainty of how their debut release would win over fans, The Winery Dogs have settled nicely into their role as one of Rock's newest bands saving the genre. The new thirteen-song album begins with the amazing bass work of Billy Sheehan on "Oblivion" with Portnoy's double-bass drum motoring the song. Kotzen's voice continues to keep sounding better as in "Captain Love," one of the album's strongest tracks.The boys get a little funky with their breakdown of title track "Hot Streak," before Kotzen opens up with an amazing guitar solo in "Empire." They take a detour from their hard rock assault with the piano ballad, "Fire," then come banging down the door with the pounding rhythm of "The Bridge." Sheehan gets to flex his fingers once again on "War Machine," before finishing the album with the arena rocker, "The Lamb."Needless to say; "Hot Streak" rocks bigtime.he Winery Dogs' debut was already awesome, this new effort is equally great, better if you want as there's even more song variation.

The Winery Dogs is an American rock supergroup formed in Los Angeles, California, United States, in 2012 by Mike Portnoy, Billy Sheehan and Richie Kotzen.The whole band started out as a project. Mike Portnoy and Billy Sheehan ended one project and were about to start a new one. They needed a lead singer/guitarist to fill the spot. Eddie Trunk heard about this and suggest Richie Kotzen to them. Billy Sheehan and Richie Kotzen have played together before in a band called "Mr. Big" so Billy Sheehan knew that Richie Kotzen could potentially fill the spot.They got together at a studio in Los Angeles and at the end of the jam session, they had a few skeletons of songs that would appear on the debut album. The band members all felt there was a chemistry between each other so they decided to record an album together. After their first album having success, they released a live concert DVD called "Unleashed in Japan 2013: The Winery Dogs." Prior to the Winery Dogs, all three members have had success with other bands. Richie Kotzen was known for playing in the band Poison and Mr. Big. Billy Sheehan is known for playing with Steve Vai, David Lee Roth, Talas, and Mr. Big. Mike Portnoy is known for being the drummer in Dream Theater, Avenged Sevenfold, and the Adrenaline Mob.When asked about the band's main influences, Mike Portnoy commented that they are working towards a classic rock sound, influenced by Led Zeppelin, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Grand Funk Railroad, as well as newer artists such as Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Black Crowes and Lenny Kravitz.The band's self-titled debut album was released in Japan on May 5, 2013 through Victor subsidiary WHD Entertainment, with a worldwide release following on July 23, 2013 through Loud & Proud Records.It was produced by Jay Ruston. It features 13 songs and they switched out the song "Time Machine" with the song "Criminal" for the Japan Edition.In June 2015, the band entered a studio around Los Angeles to record their sophomore album.In a July interview, Portnoy said the album was about to begin mixing that month, and it should be released before they begin their October tour.According to Amazon.co.uk, The Winery Dogs second album will be called Hot Streak and will be released on October 2, 2015.The Winery Dogs also have a band clinic in the summer called "Dog Camp." This camp allows musicians and fans to come meet, jam and learn from the Winery Dogs. Not only does it include individual clinics, but it also incorporates a band setting as well.

To be released on February 3, 2023 (Three Dog Music Label).Back in 2012 when The Winery Dogs formed, they were written off as a one-time, one and done project. We’d seen many bands put together only to issue an album, maybe two if we were lucky and they’d disband. Eleven years later, The Winery Dogs have released two studio albums, a Box set, an EP and a live album/concert video, and they are the verge of issuing their third studio album appropriately titled III. Sure, it’s not very creative, then again neither is the artwork which shows their trademark ‘paw.’ It’s the content within that really matters.We don’t need to get into the players’ resumes. We all know their previous work and their achievements. Drummer Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater, Sons of Apollo), bassist Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big, David Lee Roth, Talas, Sons of Apollo), and lead vocalist / guitarist Richie Kotzen (Poison, Mr. Big) have a chemistry that is unsurpassed and on III, they’ve upped their game. Their last effort Hot Streak had its moments, but overall, it missed the mark a little for me. They’ve righted the ship on III and I think most fans will agree that this one is on par with their self-titled debut.III features the technical precision that we’ve come to expect from ‘The Dogs.’ They didn’t get stingy on the melody and the incredible hooks and trademark harmonies. They’ve injected some new flavors as heard on the first single “Xanadu” which is a power pop tune that slips in some subtle jazz influences, and tunes like “Mad World” brings out some blues, and R&B influences. If I were tp select some songs as the standouts from the album, they would be “Rise” and “Lorelei.” Kotzen takes both tunes to the next level with his powerhouse vocals and his blazing fretwork. As a collective unit, these ‘three amigos’ have created another stellar recording. We knew they probably would and now, we know they definitely did. III is worthy of all the accolades that it will receive in 2023 and the years to come.
