An appropriately named sleaze band, the Sleeze Beez managed to fuse the sounds of AC/DC and Def Leppard to create their own unrelenting brand of hard rock. “When The Brains Go To The Balls” will remain one of the best song titles by any group in this genre.Sleeze Beez photoIn a unique twist, Chriz Van Jaarsveld (guitar) and Jan Koster (drums) managed to talk their way into a record deal before a band (or many songs for that matter) was even formed. In order to start recording, a band was thrown together featuring Don Van Spall (guitar), Ed Jongsma (bass) and vocalist Tiger. The debut album Look Like Hell was only released regionally, but Sleeze Beez were beginning to make people take notice.During the recording of what would become Screwed Blued & Tattooed, front man Tiger was replaced by Andrew Elt and Sleeze Beez were poised for success. Atlantic Records snatched up the group, got the band considerable airplay for the single “Stranger Than Paradise” and had the boys opening for Skid Row. The album reached #115 on Billboard’s Top 200 and the future looked bright, but within two years the band had quickly fallen from grace.The band had another album in the can by the end of 1990, but lack of management and disagreements with the record company saw Powertool shelved for almost two full years. Of course by the time the record was finally released, bands like Sleeze Beez were becoming extinct thanks to a movement from Seattle. The album sank without a trace and the label quickly cut their losses and dropped the band. A final independent release and live album proved to be Sleeze Beez‘s last gasp, as the Sleeze Beez group photogroup disbanded in 1996. Elt and guitarist Don Van Spaal went on to form a new band called Moon which released a full length album entitled The Moon in 1999.After years of rumours that the band would get back together, Sleeze Beez finally reunited to play live for the first time in 15 years at a reunion kick off show at Lakei in Helmond, Holland on June 19, 2010 followed by a show at the Geiredome Stadium in Arnhem, Holland on June 23, 2010 sharing a bill with Aerosmith, Stone Temple Pilots and Steel Panther. A greatest hits album titled The Very Best Of Sleeze Beez along with a live album entitled Screwed Live! were released in 2010 before the band went back into obscurity in early 2011 just after recording their first song together since 1994, a cover of Journey‘s “Faithfully.”

Excellent melodic hardrock / sleaze, their first and MEGARARE cd! Released on the CNR RECORDS label back in 1987! Ah Sleeze Beez! Do you remember them? Yes if your trip is the good old Hard Us. No for the others.Sleeze Beez was a Dutch group founded in 1987 by drummer Jan Koster and guitarist Chriz van Jaarsveld. The Batavians will know their hour of glory with their second album Screwed, Blue And Tattooed with in particular their hit "Stranger In Paradise". Their 3rd album Powertool was clearly influenced by Hysteria by Def Leppard and 4th Insanity Beach heavier and more anchored in the 90’s. This will be followed by the publication of an excellent live performance in Japan. Then the group will eventually split up soon after.However before being successful, the Dutch published a first essay Look Like Hell. This album even seems to have been denied by its parents. It is true that when we listen to this first try, we can only be surprised. The overall purpose is quite Glam and festive. In fact, this album is clearly a work of youth with a lot of clumsiness. The music offered by the quintet is correct and generally well produced. The musicians are sharp. The rhythm section although simple in its construction is effective. Guitar games also basic but played properly. The weak point probably comes from the singer Tiger. We feel an obvious desire to do well on his part, but his vocal limits are particularly destabilizing. Often, we are sorry for him as he pushes on his voice for an often disgusting result. All of this, you can imagine ruins the pleasure of listening and therefore no title is memorable. Finally we note that the lyrics are rather weak.On the other hand, when listening to songs like "Too Wild To Be Innocent", the fast and catchy "Hit And Run" and "Jesse", or the more FM "Dying To Live" we will recognize the dough that Sleeze Beez will develop more late. "Look Like Hell" seems pretty inspired by Ozzy Ultimate Sin's album.But other titles are particularly bad like the opening track "Girls, Girls, Nasty Nasty" which drags on too long and especially the cover of "Shame, Shame, Shame" clearly massacred by Tiger. Bad choice? Oh yeah. Their "Hot And Heavy Woman" could have worked but it is once again messy and awkward. Besides, if you listen to it carefully, the person in charge of the mix probably put effects on the vocals during the choruses to hide his weaknesses.Undoubtedly aware that if they wanted to move forward they had to separate from their singer, the Batavians will hire shortly after the release of this Look Like Hell the excellent Englishman Andrew Elt. And this will make Sleeze Beez a completely different combo ...

Judging from the name, it's pretty easy to guess that Sleeze Beez is another band from the land of glam, only this time they're not from the famous Sunset Strip site, but hailing from the exotic Holland. After letting go their former singer, Sleeze Beez was back in business with a new recruit, Andrew Elt, and released "Screwed, Blued, & Tattooed" in 1990 which was cheered by many glam fans as one of the strong and underrated release of the 90s. Sleeze Beez played a heavily-influenced Def Leppard hard rock style with an ecstatic combination of American party rock twist of Kiss and Motley Crue."Rock In The Western World" and "House Is On Fire" are two blazing opener with a sharp chord and bold vocal. The title track, "Screwed, Blued, & Tattooed", blows a whirling bluster of glorious glam anthem. "Stranger Than Paradise" is a perfect melodic piece that should have done better in the chart. "This Time" is a delightful vintage ballad with a sugary tones and heavenly chorus. "Damned If We Do, Damned If We Don't" borrows heavily from Def Leppard's "High And Dry" era. "When The Brains Go To The Balls" is a weird exhilirating title but surely an excellent slab of lightning hard rock. This is a pleasing and sparks-flying album with a superb vocal and lethal guitar sweeps.Now let’s talk about this album with the bizarre name – a name which definitely didn’t help their case, in my opinion. But hey, it was the ’80s and it was all about fun, nihilism and doing whatever the hell you want! So let’s not fall into despair and just focus on the music, instead.sleeze beez“Screwed, Blued & Tattooed” is one of those albums which I say are “worth discovering” and definitely one of the exciting releases of the early 90s. From the opening powerful slap – “Rock in the Western World” to the playful wrap up song “Girls Girls, Nasty Nasty”, the album is one hell of an entertaining piece of hard rock music! Don’t get me wrong, the album is far from perfect or groundbreaking but with lively and highly amusing tracks like “House is on Fire”, “Damned If We Do, Damned If We Don’t” and of course the title song, I feel like I can totally forgive and forget. “Stranger Than Paradise” is unquestionably the finest moment on the album and definitely a song that had the potential to stand against any Bon Jovi, Winger, Great White or Poison song. After a couple of tracks, we finally get to the power ballad – “This Time”. It’s as good as any power ballad of the era, that’s all I have to say. If you are a power ballad enthusiast like me, then you will love it for sure! Check out the rest of the songs – “Heroes Die Young” and “Don’t Talk About Roses” are striking highly deserving rockers as well!Ultimately, Sleeze Beeze didn’t really predict the strong invasion of the alternative rock scene and their album was quickly forgotten. I can understand why, believe me – in addition to the bad timing, the album (was)is a total cliché. However, I am still recommending it because sometimes those partying non stop/sex/living the life clichés are the ones that help us go through the day.

Third record from great hard rock party band from Holland.GREAT music, 'gang' backing vocals with traces of Ratt, even Def Leppard, but this band's music is grittier than either. Too bad the Beez didn't get a good push from their label (also would've helped if it was released a year earlier, like it was supposed to be), because this is rockin', heavy commercial rock and roll; not metal but not Trixter either ... 1st track, "Raise A Little Hell" is very commercial, as is "Head To Toe" (one of my faves), but the rest is raw, in-your-face rock and roll. Included is one emotional power ballad which doesn't detract from the flow of the album. Only track I could lose is maybe "What's That Smell", but some may like it. Parts of it remind of Skid Row, other parts of Ratt, but with a gutsy lead voice, and truly crunchy guitars, this album stands the test of time. It's rare, but worth getting ..it's a gem!Despite their name, Dutch band Sleeze Beez had more in common with arena rocking bands like Def Leppard and AC/DC than with Faster Pussycat, Pretty Boy Floyd, and other sleaze rock bands. I actually avoided this band for a long time thinking they were going to be too sleazy for my tastes. What a cool surprise this band turned out to be.1992's Powertool is the band's second release, and it's about as much fun as a rock & roll album can be. Sleeze Beez take the basic Sunset Strip hair metal formula and give it the kind of polish and class that only a European band can provide for a very melodic, very rockin' end result. This is what Def Leppard would have sounded like in the early 90's if they weren't obsessed with wimpy ballads. There are some really memorable rockers on this album, including Raise a Little Hell and Out Your Money Where Your Mouth Is, and the ballad I Don't Want To Live Without You probably would have been a top 20 hit if it had been released just a year or two earlier.If you're looking for true sleaze rock, I don't think this band qualifies. If however, you're a big fan of the 80's hair metal scene and are looking for another great melodic rock album, you'll want to grab a copy of Powertool right away.NOTE: Wounded Bird reissued Powertool in 2008. Like all Wounded Bird reissues, the album has not been remastered and there is no bonus material. It's nice to see the album back in print, but given how easy (and cheap) it is to find used copies of the original release I have to wonder why they bothered reissuing it when they could have done everyone a favor and reissued their hard-to-find 3rd album Insanity Beach.

The majority of the hard rock loving public are probably not aware their was a band called Sleeze Beez. Hair metal fans know them, (most of them love this band) but very few are aware that Sleeze Beez put out a fourth studio album in 1994.The hair metal scene was on life support by this time, and new releases such as this one, got very little, if any mentions in the press.The tunes on Insanity Beach have a much harder edge than the Sleeze Beez previous releases.Insanity Beach isn’t so heavy that Sleeze Beez fans wont like it. In fact, those taking the time out to check this disc out, will be greatly surprised.Many hard rock acts from the late 80’s and early 90’s tried to update their sound in an effort to keep going. The change in the Sleeze Beez sound isn’t quite as drastic as the updated sounds from Warrant, Shotgun Messiah, or Asphalt Ballet. It may be a harder approach, but its very listenable.My favorite cuts on this disc are “Human Zoo“, “Sacrifice“, and the title track “Insanity Beach“. While I don’t think this CD is as good as Screwed, Blued & Tattooed, it is better than previous effort, Powertool.Although ‘Insanity Beach’ features the trusted Sleeze Beez formula, the Beez seem to have taken a slightly more experimental road on this album, accounting for a bigger amount of listening pleasure. It’s not like the Beez suddenly turn into a Prog band, it’s still Rock ‘n’ Roll, just slightly more interestingly structured. The tension build-up in ‘Save Myself’ makes the song my favorite Beez-song, the spoken parts in ‘Gun Culture’ took some getting used to, but make it a truly powerful and unique song and the slower, creeping ‘D.U.I. (Intoxicated)’ and ‘Hate Rock And Roll’ (did anyone say ‘Kashmir’?) are welcome variations in the tempo department. Rest assured though, closing track ‘Scream’ revives the party atmosphere of most of ‘Screwed, Blued And Tattooed’.Most Rock ‘n’ Roll bands can rock. However, it takes a brilliant singer to lift the actual music to a higher level. Andrew Elt is such a singer. I heard he’s fronting a Led Zeppelin coverband these days and he does have a Robert Plant-ish touch to his vocals (and his appearance), although Elt fits the eighties Glam Metal idiom a little more. The guys backing him are more than adequate though. Jan Koster is a true power hitter and Ed Jongsma delivers bass lines just slightly more interesting than the standard Rock bassist. And I don’t know who plays which solo, but Chriz van Jaarsveld and Don van Spall are both awesome guitarists. Check out those in ‘The Long Goodbye’ and ‘Sacrifice’ for great examples.But what’s most important are the actual songs. And as you may have understood from the ones mentioned above, there’s no need to complain there. Actually, that’s where the band name may be a bit misleading. The music heard on ‘Insanity Beach’ is classy seventies Hardrock with a touch of eighties L.A. Glam Metal, but the influence of Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith is much more apparent than, for instance, Mötley Crüe or Ratt. I’d take ‘Save Myself’ over ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’ any day.What I’m trying to say, I guess, is this: get over the somewhat misleading band name or even if you like it sleazy, give this band a chance. Let’s just rephrase the chorus to one of the songs: if you like Rock ‘n’ Roll, I know you’re gonna like this.

The debut album Look Like Hell was only released regionally, but Sleeze Beez were beginning to make people take notice.During the recording of what would become Screwed Blued & Tattooed, front man Tiger was replaced by Andrew Elt and Sleeze Beez were poised for success. Atlantic Records snatched up the group, got the band considerable airplay for the single “Stranger Than Paradise” and had the boys opening for Skid Row. The album reached #115 on Billboard’s Top 200 and the future looked bright, but within two years the band had quickly fallen from grace.The band had another album in the can by the end of 1990, but lack of management and disagreements with the record company saw Powertool shelved for almost two full years. Of course by the time the record was finally released, bands like Sleeze Beez were becoming extinct thanks to a movement from Seattle. The album sank without a trace and the label quickly cut their losses and dropped the band. A final independent release and live album proved to be Sleeze Beez‘s last gasp, as the Sleeze Beez group photogroup disbanded in 1996. Elt and guitarist Don Van Spaal went on to form a new band called Moon which released a full length album entitled The Moon in 1999.After years of rumours that the band would get back together, Sleeze Beez finally reunited to play live for the first time in 15 years at a reunion kick off show at Lakei in Helmond, Holland on June 19, 2010 followed by a show at the Geiredome Stadium in Arnhem, Holland on June 23, 2010 sharing a bill with Aerosmith, Stone Temple Pilots and Steel Panther. A greatest hits album titled The Very Best Of Sleeze Beez along with a live album entitled Screwed Live! were released in 2010 before the band went back into obscurity in early 2011 just after recording their first song together since 1994, a cover of Journey‘s “Faithfully.”

Great collection of best hits.Los Angeles will be remembered for being the breeding ground for most of the glam/pop-metal bands that emerged in the '80s, but other areas birthed similar bands as well, including the Netherland's Sleeze Beez. The group (guitarists Chriz van Jaarsveld and Don van Spall, drummer Jan Koster, bassist Ed Jongsma) came together late in the decade, after van Jaarsveld and Koster attracted the attention of a local record company head (Red Bullet Records president Willem van Kooten), who helped the up-and-coming group get started. 1987 saw the release of their debut album, Look Like Hell, which was comparable to such raunch rock kings as AC/DC and Mötley Crüe. Sleeze Beez signed a U.S. deal with Atlantic Records shortly thereafter, issuing Screwed Blued & Tattooed in 1990. 1992 saw the release of their third album, Powertool (recorded by Aerosmith/UFO producer Gary Lyons), but with interest waning in their brand of rock, the Beez were dropped by Atlantic. The quintet carried on nonetheless, releasing a final studio album and live recording in 1994, Insanity Beach and Live in Tokyo, before splitting up. Elt and van Spall formed the rock band the Moon, while Koster and van Jaarsveld formed the outfit Jetland. Sleeze Beez reunited in 2001 for a tour and possible new album.
