Bio:

Kix is an American hard rock band that achieved popularity in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Band members have continued to tour, including at the Rocklahoma festival in 2008 in Oklahoma and the M3 Rock Festival in May 2011 in the band's home state of Maryland.A new version Kix reformed in late 2003 sans songwriter and band leader Purnell. Kix then lined-up shows for September 2004, the lineup consisting of Steve Whiteman (lead vocals), Ronnie "10/10" Younkins (guitars), Brian "Damage" Forsythe (guitars), Jimmy "Chocolate" Chalfant (drums, backing vocals), and Funny Money bassist Mark Schenker (bass, backing vocals) in place of Donnie Purnell. On August 7, 2012, Frontiers Records announced that it had signed Kix; the band subsequently released a live CD/DVD, titled Live in Baltimore, in September, with a new studio album to follow in 2013.On April 16, 2014, it was announced that the band had signed with Loud & Proud Records, and are scheduling the release of their new album for July 22, 2014, making it the first studio album the band released in 19 years. On June 18, 2014, it was announced that the band would release their seventh studio album, titled Rock Your Face Off, on August 5.

Album:

Coinciding with their return and a fresh album in two decades just released, Rock Candy Records are reissuing / remastering KIX's most celebrated records from '80s: ‘Blow My Fuse’ and ‘Midnight Dynamite’.By the time Kix had recorded "Blow My Fuse", their fourth album, all eyes in the hard rock biospace were upon them as a band expected to rise up from the ranks to achieve success and exert influence.Certainly their record label Atlantic Records believed in the band enough to steer them towards not one, but three top notch producers; that’s Tom Werman (Mötley Crüe, Twisted Sister, Dokken) together with the dynamic duo of Duane Barron and John Purdell (Ozzy Osbourne, Dream Theater).Recorded in Los Angeles and issued in August 1988, the record was immediately heralded as the best Kix album so far, with critics pointing out the quality of songs and a refinement of their trademark rough and tumble sound. In addition they had made a significant change in their back office by enlisting new management who also handled the affairs of Twisted Sister and Zebra, both signed to Atlantic Records.Strangely, the record was slow to react commercially, dragging its feet until the label were persuaded to issue the Bob Halligan Jr. co-write "Don’t Close Your Eyes" as a single to radio. This enduring power ballad became an instant smash, rising to #8 on the Billboard singles chart and paving the way for over a million sales of the album, whilst drawing attention to notable album tracks such as "Red Lite, Green Lite, TNT", "Get It While It’s Hot" and "She Dropped Me The Bomb".All these cuts were much more melodic hard rock oriented than any material previously released by Kix, positioning the band in the same league of Warrant, Stryper, Autograph, etc."Blow My Fuse" is the more 'commercial', glossy recording of Kix, another fine slice of the Californian Melodic Hard Rock movement that ruled the US in the second half of the '80s.Compared to the original CD release, this Rock Candy remaster of "Blow My Fuse" is a bit tougher. I don't really have an issue with the original pressing, and this new version doesn't add quite as much as the Midnight Dynamite remaster does.

Album:

"Midnight Dynamite", Remastered & Reloaded by Rock Candy Records. There is a breed of bands who like to keep it simple: four-to-the-floor guitar driven hard rock with catchy riffs and hooks that sound as though they were born fully formed. In this respect, it’s fair to say that the Maryland based five piece Kix are close to the top of the heap when it comes to instantly infectious songs. Garnish that with a healthy coating of classy inspired melodic rock and you’ve got a marriage made in heaven.Signed to industry giant Atlantic Records, "Midnite Dynamite" was the band's third album and the one expected to establish Kix as a force to be reckoned with.Produced by man of the moment Beau Hill (Ratt, Warrant) and with wonderful contributions by guitar maestro Mike Slamer, the album finally brought all the right ingredients to the forefront, boasting memorable songs and lively rocking of the finest order.Add to this a comprehensive selection of grade A co-writers, including contributions from Bob Halligan Jr. (Icon, Judas Priest, Kiss), Kip Winger and John Palumbo (Crack The Sky) and you’ve got a record that delivers as much as it promises.Check out the raunch and roll of "Red Hot (Blue Black)", "Bang Bang (Balls Of Fire)", "Scarlet Fever" and the title track, for nicely polished nuggets of no nonsense party rock blessed with a cool delivery that sets fire to the notion that you can’t have your cake and eat it.Regarded as many - including me - as their prime example of true American Hard Rock, "Midnight Dynamite" rocks from start to finish. The original Atlantic transfer to CD was quiet and thin sounding, and I always found myself tweaking the stereo as the bass just wasn't there. This Rock Candy remaster recovers a full dynamic sound; the kick drum indeed 'kicks', the snare snaps, the bass guitar is present, nothing sounds artificial either. It does what a proper remaster does; improves the original.Very complete booklet as well with Beau Hill, Bob Halligan Jr. and band members comments about the making of the album.

Line-Up:

Ronnie '10/10' Younkins – guitars
Brian 'Damage' Forsythe – guitars

Jimmy 'Chocolate' Chalfant – drums, percussion, backing vocals

Album:

Almost 20 years have passed since the last studio album and the already long platinum-cured boys - Steve Whiteman (vocals), Brian "Damage" Forsythe (guitar),Ronnie "10/10" Younkins (guitar), Jimmy "Chocolate" Chalfant (drums) and Mark Schenker (bass) - return with booming loud and true rock 'n' roll back to the stage."Rock Your Face Off" is the long-awaited publication of a band that match 1988 with their platinum album "Blow My Fuse" and the power ballad "Do not Close Your Eyes" (# 11 in the Billboard charts) and 1991 the chart breaker "Hot Wire" can boast considerable success. 2008 KIX brought back quite elegant in the public perception. Following sold-out gigs in her hometown, the quintet played at Rocklahoma in front of 20,000 people. Brian, the guitarist, recalls: "When we started to play along again, suddenly thousands of fans came out of the woodwork. You suddenly appeared with their kids - it was just incredible. We had to really deliver something. "And in order to do just that, the band undertook talents as producers Taylor Rhodes (Aerosmith, Ozzy Osbourne). For the first time ever, all the band members to control something in the writing process. In songs like "Dirty Girl" riffs are screwed between tortuous choruses and smooth six-string acrobatics. "All The Right Things" is hymn-like bombastic and the bluesy swing at "Rock Your Face Off" opens into an absolutely unshakable chorus that absolutely encourages everyone to dance.Clearly, therefore. After all the excitement has put back something, KIX catapult with her statement "Rock Your Face Off" 2014 "It still revolves around hot women, fast cars and great moments," concludes the singer together.

Album:

Thirty years ago Kix exploded on the global hard rock scene with its iconic fourth album, Blow My Fuse. While the quintet had already garnered a massive regional following on the East Coast and a healthy underground fan base elsewhere, Blow My Fuse became the album that connected the dots. The entire album resonates with a sonic sense of kinetic energy and boundless charisma. Much of this is the result vocalist Steve Whiteman’s ineffable magic. His presence and quirky magnetism radiate through each song. This combined with the stunning twin guitar attack of Brian “Damage” Forsythe and Ronnie “10/10” Younkins made for an album of riff-driven addictive ear candy. On September 21st, the boys will re-issue Blow My Fuse in 30th anniversary package, 2 CD set: Fuse 30 Reblown – 30thAnniversary Special Edition. Completed exclusively through PledgeMusic, Kix tapped legendary producer Beau Hill (Alice Cooper, Ratt, Europe, Warrant) to remix Blow My Fuse. Hill had originally worked with Kix on its 1985 album, Midnite Dynamite. Hill does a masterful job on Fuse 30, bringing the album into the new millennium without taking away from eclectic elements and raucous energy that made the original so memorable. Jay Frigoletto (Alice in Chains, Tesla) came in to master the album, adding the perfect finishing touch. It is a difficult proposition messing with an album of near perfection, but three decades later Blow My Fuse is reignited and more powerful than ever. For die-hard fans, the band even added a second disc of the 10 demo recordings for each track on the album.Blow My Fuse is packed with infectious tunes from beginning to end, opening with propulsive rocker, “Red Lite, Green Lite, TNT” and followed by the roller coaster juggernaut of “Get It While It’s Hot,” and the bombastic swagger of “No Ring Around Rosie.” Drummer Jimmy “Chocolate” Chalfant serves as the band’s secret rhythmic weapon. The album slows its pace for the anti-suicide power ballad, “Don’t Close Your Eyes” which became a staple on MTV and stands as the band’s highest charting single, landing at #11. A song that may be more relative and impactful today than it was 30 years ago.The adrenaline drive returns for “She Dropped Me the Bomb” and the band’s mammoth single, “Cold Blood.” All of these songs remain fan favorites and concerts staples, along with the album’s title cut. The remaining three songs; “Piece of the Pie,” “Boomerang,” and “Dirty Boys” are no slouches either. There is simply not a weak track on Blow My Fuse which is why it has stood the test of time.Four decades into its heady career, Kix continue to electrify fans with new music, having released the stunning studio classic Rock Your Face Off in 2014. Now 30 years after its initial September 19, 1988 release, the band gifts fans with the dynamic rebirth of it platinum masterpiece, Blow My Fuse – Fuse 30 Reblown – 30th Anniversary Special Edition.Whiteman, Younkins, Forsythe, Chalfant, and bassist Mark Schenker remain as relevant as ever, and they show no signs of slowing down. Fuse 30 Reblown is available for pre-order now through the band’s PledgeMusic store, where fans can also purchase special commemorative merchandise including signed copies of the album, t-shirts, pins, and beach towels. Hill (also known for his work with Alice Cooper, Warrant and Ratt) recently contributed to a 30th anniversary update of the band’s classic hit record Blow My Fuse in 2018 and this time looked forward to less of what he deemed “all the bullshit that I was putting on it then.” Originally released in October 1985, Midnite Dynamite now gets its own double disc remixed and remastered version complete with original demos of seven of the album’s ten songs as well as an early studio mix of the song “Walking Away.” Fans can pre-order Midnite Dynamite Re-Lit at KIX‘s webstore.“In a year full of bad news, KIX is excited to bring fans some good news. On the 35th anniversary of the release of Midnite Dynamite, Maryland hard rock icons, KIX, will release Midnite Dynamite Re-Lit, on November 20, 2020. For Midnite Dynamite Re-Lit, KIX partnered with long-time collaborator and the album’s original producer, Beau Hill (Alice Cooper, Ratt, Warrant, KIX), for a blistering update of the fan-favorite album. Midnite Dynamite Re-Lit is available for pre-order now on the band’s webstore where fans can also purchase special commemorative merchandise including t-shirts, hoodies, keychains, and more.KIX’s third album of their career, originally released October 7, 1985, Midnite Dynamite, reflected the band’s true essence, as the popular musical landscape of the mid 80’s had shifted in their favour. From the slash-and-burn riffing of the album’s title track and the high-speed antics of “Layin’ Rubber,” to the Aerosmith-flavoured groove of numbers like “Cold Shower,” and “Sex,” to the heart-break melancholia of the album’s sole ballad, “Walkin’ Away,” Midnite Dynamite is packed with material that delivers not only attitude in spades, but also pummels the listener with hook after hook.Thirty-five years after its initial release, Midnite Dynamite remains a fan and band favorite, and Hill (who also remixed KIX’s hit album Blow My Fuse to mark its 30th anniversary in 2018) relished the opportunity to return to the original 1985 multi-track tapes.About the new mix, Hill says, “The guitars don’t have as much schmutz on them as the original, and Steve‘s vocal just jumps off the page now without all the bullshit that I was putting on it then. I guess that’s what happens when you mix and produce for an additional 35 years.” “Back in the ’80s, everything had way too much echo, way too much reverb,” recalls vocalist Steve Whiteman. “It was so muddy that sometimes you would lose some really dynamic performances. Beau cleaned all that up on the Blow My Fuse re-release, and he’s doing the same thing on Midnite Dynamite, so it sounds incredible.”Midnite Dynamite Re-Lit also includes original demo recordings for seven out of the ten songs, plus one early album mix of the song, “Walking Away.” “We chose to include a demo disc, like Fuse 30 Reblown, even though we were missing two songs,” says bassist Mark Schenker. “Nobody had a copy on either cassette or two track stereo quarter-inch tape. I searched high and low and couldn’t find the demos of ‘Scarlet Fever,’ or ‘Bang Bang.’”In 2014, KIX released their seventh full-length album, Rock Your Face Off (Loud & Proud Records), which was their first studio effort since 1995’s Show Business. The album debuted at #1 on Amazon’s Hard Rock and Metal chart, in the Top 50 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart, #5 on the Independent Albums chart, #11 on the Top Internet chart, #17 on the Top Rock Albums chart, #27 on the Indie/Small Chain Core Stores chart and #33 on the Physical chart.KIX last released Can’t Stop The Show: The Return of KIX on October 21, 2016, a two-disc DVD/CD set that entered the Billboard Top Music Video Sales chart at #3, and rose to the #1 position, the band’s highest charting debut and first #1 ever in their 35-year history. The 71-minute film offered an in-depth look into KIX’s decision to record their first new album, 2014’s Rock Your Face Off, in almost 20 years. In 2018, KIX celebrated the 30th Anniversary of their biggest album, Blow My Fuse, with Blow My Fuse Re-Blown, a two-disc set with a remixed/remastered version of the album, along with the original demo recordings for all 10 songs. The reunion with Beau Hill for this remix sparked the initiative to revisit Midnite Dynamite and take a similar approach to updating KIX’s legacy.KIX will hit the road in 2021 playing select deep cuts from the album Midnite Dynamite to celebrate the release of Midnite Dynamite Re-Lit. All tour dates can be found on the band’s website.”
