Bio:

If you are told "Heavy Metal" and "80s", it's a safe bet that you immediately think of names like Iron Maiden, Accept or Judas Priest? Englishmen, Germans and even Americans in the first place... nd that's normal. Yet, France also had Heavy bands that were particularly well on the road.Let's take a look at Squealer (not to be confused with his German counterpart) and his second album, Squealer's Mark.We are in 1989, Squealer, group Nantais formed of Pascal Bailly (vocals), Yann Chamberlain and Laurent Lachater (guitars), Jean-Marc Delalande (bass) and Roland Girard (drums), has already had time to make a name In the middle thanks to some demos but especially to a first album released in 1987 responding to the sweet name of DFR (for "Drinking, Fucking, Rocking", friends poets good evening!). So it was time to move on to higher gear and record the second album.Gary Lyons (who worked with the Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Queen, UFO ...) does not have an exceptional sound, far from it. The group did not appreciate working with him. It must be said that Squealer did not have a say in the choice of Gary Lyons. It does not help.

Album:

SQUEALER is a French band coming from the city of Nantes, well recommended for fans of AC/DC or the masters of Seventies and Eighties heavy-metal. Here is the Brennus reissue of the first album "D.F.R." (1987), now remastered and with an interactive track. This very rare and mythical album surprised the general public by the quality of its production. Pascal BAILLY appears to be a great disciple of Bon SCOTT, producting vocal lines as raucous as agressive. Intelligent compositions, good sound, gifted musicians, howling singing: those are the ingredients of an album full of good omens and musical feelings. Not to be missed ! It was Great. I was at this moment near by SQUEALER and made a long way with them to see the shows everywhere I could.Power ROCK, beetween AC/DC and ACCEPT with really good songs and themes...Best from FRANCE !!

Line Up:

Pascal Bailly - Vocals
Jean-Marc Delalande - Bass
Laurent Lachater - Guitar
Roland Girard - Drums
Yann Chamberlain - Guitar

The group did not appreciate working with him. It must be said that Squealer did not have a say in the choice of Gary Lyons. It does not help. Also, the CD is really cheap with no libretto and lyrics (when they were published in vinyl). But these are the only faults. Because on the level of the content, the French p'tits have done strong. This album can only please the amateurs of the heavy Teuton at the Accept. Already because the voice of Pascal Bailly is not unlike that of Udo Dirkschneider but also because the pieces are forged with the same anvil. Heavy titles, percussive riffs, choruses with choruses (which could have been even more enormous without this production that crushes everything). Listen to House, Fight, What You Gonna Do, the monstrous Saturday Night, London Killer or Die My Friend. Is this not worthy of Accept? Songs often built with simple choruses composed of two or three words (Fight, Saturday Night, Die My Friend, We Need Girl) repeated until more thirsty which slam us well in the face. And watch the cervical! Yes, Squealer has not forgotten to be very effective in breaking the neck. Some guests went by to make a little cuckoo. We find a solo by Patrick Rondat (on Saturday Night) and backing vocals by Nina Scott on the same title, as well as by Mike Heaven and Lee St Amour (by Sweet Lips) on No More Tears. As we speak, the ballad No More Tears, if not bad, is however rather repetitive and could have been shortened by two good minutes. But it is only a detail, in the end.Last but not least, Donna Summers' She Works Hard For The Money, the queen of the disco, is doing very well, and the version is convincing. All ingredients were combined to make Squealer a widely exportable French group.Squealer's Mark is going to work rather well because he will be leading Metal sales in France in October (which, for a French band, does not happen every day). In addition, Squealer is widely supported by French magazines of the time, notably Hard Rock Magazine which will release its famous compilation Hard Rock Rendez-Vous that same year, a compilation gathering the rising stars of Hard à la française (almost all disappeared today 'Hui) and one of the flagship pieces of which will be Saturday Night.Unfortunately, after the much more confidential release of a second album two years later, the band will shatter. But to be complete, it is necessary to know that Squealer has reformed recently and begins to remake some concerts.Squealer's Mark remains the best testimony of the group's passage.
