Bio:

Firing twin barrels of arena-rock muscle and moving melodies, Greta Van Fleet is a modern rock & roll band rooted in the genre's strongest traditions: super-sized hooks, raw riffage and the sweeping vocals of a front man who was born to wail. The four-piece formed in Frakenmuth, Michigan, just outside of Detroit, where 20 year-old twin brothers Josh and Jake Kiszka began playing shows with their 17 year-old younger brother, Sam, and 17 year-old family friend Danny Wagner. Holding their practices in the Kiszka family garage and road-testing their songs onstage throughout Michigan, the four became a band of brothers whose songs mix classic chops with the thrill of teenage angst. From sing-along choruses to fiery guitar solos, Greta Van Fleet rounds up a highlight reel of rock & roll heroics. These guys aren't revivalists; they're looking ahead, breathing new life into a sound that's blasted out of car dashboards and living room stereos for decades.

Album:

As the old adage goes, “Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.” Michigan’s own Greta Van Fleet is the embodiment of that saying. On its debut EP Black Smoke Rising, Greta Van Fleet prove that Rock is not only still alive but has been reborn in this young four-piece from Frankenmuth. The EP’s lead single “Highway Tune” raised a lot of smoke recently in the music community and the buzz is growing now about Greta Van Fleet’s fiery live performances. The band’s effortless chemistry must be linked to the group’s genetic makeup: 3 brothers and their childhood friend. Twin brothers Josh (vocals) and Jake (guitars) Kiszka, younger brother Sam Kiszka (bass, keyboards), and drummer Danny Wagner weave each other’s varied musical backgrounds into a melting pot of rock, metal, pop, blues and grunge.Josh Kiszka has somehow managed to go back in time, meet a 20-year old Robert Plant, and steal his vocal chords. That being said, it is important to note that Greta Van Fleet is not a Zeppelin clone band. The voice may sound like Plant, but its application on these songs is fresh and entertaining. Jake Kiszka also channel’s Jimmy Page’s jangle-ly riffing at times, but it never sounds forced or stale. Sam Kiszka and Danny Wagner provide the solid-as-a-rock foundation off of which Josh and Jake take flight. One of the most exciting things about this group is their collective youth and hunger. Half of Greta Van Fleet is still in high school and they are about to embark on a run of dates supporting English rockers The Struts. Making the music that they do, Greta Van Fleet are the underdogs that fans of real rock music will love to root for and support. Picking up the band’s excellent debut EP is the perfect way to do just that.

Album:

Anthem of the Peaceful Army is the upcoming debut studio album by American rock band Greta Van Fleet. The album is scheduled for release on October 19, 2018, and follows the band's original two EP releases, Black Smoke Rising and From the Fires. The first single, "When the Curtain Falls", was released in July 2018. Greta Van Fleet love rock’n’roll way more than you do. The small town Michigan, USA group formed back in 2012, and is comprised of three brothers – Josh Kiszka, Sam Kiszka, and Jake Kiszka – and their pal Danny Wagner. After six years of old-fashioned grit’n’grind, the Frankenmuth natives (population 4,994, according to the 2010 census) are on the cusp of international glory. In November, the band will hit these shores for a smattering of sold-out shows across the country, and are being met by similarly swelling crowds elsewhere. Rock on, brothers!A new artist hitting the big time isn’t particularly shocking in this age of insta-culture, but put in the context of who they are and what they play, this is damn impressive. Cushty playlist spots, social media domination and chart success are opportunities that almost exclusively present themselves to pop and hip-hop stars. In the last decade, rock music has been pushed to the edges of the cultural zeitgeist. But that’s where Greta Van Fleet come in.This lot want to bring rock back to the masses. Speaking to Kerrang earlier this year, bassist Sam made clear their mission statement: “For a lot of our generation, people our age, this is a new sound. It’s absolutely brand new. I think it’s a new wave. I think this is what the future is. I think this is the future of music.”In some ways, he’s right. ‘Anthem of The Peaceful Army’ may well be the first time some teens hear sounds quite like these, though anyone who’s dug deep into their who’s who of rock music will know that there’s little original going on here. The formula for writing songs like these have not been drastically altered on ‘Anthem…’, as the ghosts of Hendrix, Cream, AC/DC and, most obviously, Led Zeppelin haunt this album. Occasionally you’ll feel compelled to blow the dust clean off some of the album’s most fuddy-duddy tropes. The Led Zeppelin comparisons are inescapable and this album does little to dissuade, or offer a drastically alternative sound. Back in March, Robert Plant called the band “Led Zeppelin I” and called leader Josh a “beautiful little singer, I hate him!” The band insist that they’re flattered to be recognised by the band, but are wary of being called “rip-offs” and earlier this year called the claims “bullshit”.Nevetheless, Plant’s trademark screech appears to have been reincarnated via lead singer’s Josh mighty howl, though the album’s most memorable moments are, in fact, its most restrained. Wistful bluesy-jams ‘You’re The One’, ‘Anthem’ and ‘The New Day’ all provide the band’s more soulful influences, as though Howlin’ Wolf and John Lee Hooker have taken the wheel with a more stripped-back songwriting approach.Ultimately, this is just a rock album that does exactly what it says on the tin. They are head-banging, pitch-altering rock songs that may not change the world right away, but they’ll give yer head a little wobble at the very least. The twists and turns of ‘When The Curtain Falls’ incite all the thrill and fear of watching a fire rage out of control, while the brute force on songs such as ‘Lover Leaver (Taker Believer)’ and ‘Brave New World’ collide in spectacular, Earth-shattering ways.Greta Van Fleet really love rock’n’roll and they really want you to love it, too. By the time this record plays out, they may well have achieved their goal.

These guys aren't revivalists; they're looking ahead, breathing new life into a sound that's blasted out of car dashboards and living room stereos for decades.

Album:

Michigan upstarts GRETA VAN FLEET are releasing today "From The Fires", their first full length album featuring tracks recorded few months ago plus the songs from their 4-track debut EP, which includes their breakthrough radio hit 'Highway Tune'. That song topped Billboard's Mainstream Rock and Active Rock chart earlier this year. This young quartet rocks like few, and the Classic Rock / Hard runs through their veins like if they were born several decades ago.Greta Van Fleet formed in 2012 and were quick to rouse world wide interest following the release of their debut EP, offering a thundering exhibition of raw, blues-based hard rock. When 'Highway Tune' was issued as a single -- the band's first -- this year, Billboard reported that "Greta Van Fleet is the first act to top Mainstream Rock Songs in a first visit this year" and that 'Highway Tune' was fastest that a band's first entry onto the chart climbed to No. 1 without the star power of a noteworthy featured guest.A band Rolling Stone named as one of the “10 New Artists You Need to Know” and recently being named best New Artist at 2017’s Loudwire Music Awards, Greta Van Fleet are on the rise. Greta Van Fleet have turned their rich and varied musical background into something special. They have created a sound reaching far beyond the ages of the four band members. Growing up around music, they turned that inspiration into Greta Van Fleet. Led Zeppelin seems to be the first thing that comes to mind, especially 'Highway Tune', a track which appeared on their first EP, yet returns for more with "From The Fires". Here, the band's vocalist Josh Kiszka carries out a seemingly endless note which will give Robert Plant fans chills. Additionally, the main groove of this song is infectious over a killer guitar riff. Starting off the album strongly, 'Safari Song', captures the essence of their signature sound. It contains a big chorus, hard-driving guitars and punchy drums, as well as over the top vocals. Thereafter, 'Edge of Darkness' has a little more modern feel, all while keeping the same heart and soul. Guitarist Jake Kiszka (singer's brother) gets to spread his wings a bit with an extended guitar solo that concludes the track. 'Flower Power' follows with a more melodic approach adding acoustics and keyboards to the mix, and then we get 'A Change Is Gonna Come', which is a Sam Cooke cover and shows Greta Van Fleet in a bluesy, soulful ballad mode.'Meet On The Ledge' is another cover, a Richard Thompson / Fairport Convention song. The Greta Van Fleet version really soars in the chorus complimented by the backing vocals.'Talk On The Street' moves with a hard rock funky rhythm, an upbeat track full of swagger that could potentially be a good candidate for a single. Classic, great stuff. For the end 'Black Smoke Rising' adds that lovely stadium feel in a track with meaty instrumentation, great vocals and a catchy chorus."From The Fires" is truly an album for Classic Rock / Hard fans young and old. Let’s face it, many Rock n' Roll heroes are retiring, or even more sadly, passing on. Even more amplifying why Rock music needs new young bands like Greta Van Fleet to keep the fire alive. What better way to Rock’s sacred history by creating something new, yet reminiscent of the roots. A skill Greta Van Fleet seems to do very well, they have found a way to create their own sound all while staying true to their mission of “reinterpreting the reinterpretation of Classic Rock.” For all the “rock is dead” people out there Greta Van Fleet is certainly proving that theory wrong and could potentially open the door to get more rock bands into the mainstream. Rock n’ roll doesn’t need saving, but it does need exposure and Greta Van Fleet is certainly bringing it to a new generation. And they sure don't seem too eager to pass off anytime soon. "From The Fires" is another step towards rock super stardom from one of the breakout bands of 2017.

Album:

"The Battle At Garden's Gate" was recorded at Southern California's Henson Recording Studios and No Expectations Studio with producer Greg Kurstin, who also worked on the last two FOO FIGHTERS albums.Greta Van Fleet continues to carry the torch and tradition of genuine rock and roll on the group’s much-anticipated new album The Battle at Garden’s Gate. Scheduled for release on April 16th, 2021 on Lava/Republic Records, the record is expansive, elegant, and aggressive all at once and reminds listeners that there once was a time when people made music for other people, not for platforms or robots. Produced by Greg Kurstin, The Battle at Garden’s Gate contains complex, intelligent new songs that feel authentic and wise. It’s a wonderful, all-encompassing record that documents the Grammy-winning band’s extensive evolution while still remaining 100% true to the classic rock spirit that has driven it from the beginning. Greta Van Fleet is very much prepared to extend the glory of rock music to another generation by blowing minds and melting faces like great bands have always done and The Battle at Garden’s Gate shows just how committed everyone involved is to that process.Greta Van Fleet has gone from playing small town gigs in Michigan to rocking sheds and stadiums around the world in an extremely brief period of time. Band members Josh Kiszka (vocals), Jake Kiszka (guitar), Sam Kiszka (bass/keyboards), and Danny Wagner (drums) seemingly came out of nowhere with a sound many people felt would save guitar-centered rock in the way only a young band can. The group is intent on re-establishing the power, passion, and romance that allowed rock music to conquer the earth in decades past and making records that will stand the same test of time. The first two Greta Van Fleet efforts, From The Fires and Anthem of the Peaceful Army, have given every indication of doing exactly that and this new set is certain to elevate the group even higher. The Battle at Garden’s Gate opens with the majestic “Heat Above,” a sprawling gem that combines elements of Yes and Led Zeppelin with the band’s own ideas about how epic rock should sound. Josh Kiszka’s vocals fly high and wide over a landscape of guitars and keyboards clearly crafted to inspire great emotion. The entire group is bigger, bolder, and very much at home in this new creative environment and easily pulls fans new and old into their journey and process. “My Way, Soon” keeps the magic going with an ultra-jangling guitar riff and an uptempo groove that feels like a hundred-mile highway cruise towards freedom. Danny Wagner’s drumming is the gearbox that moves this one forward and he sounds energized and strong.“Built By Nations” is a heavier mid-speed cut with memorable riffs, strident vocals, and a killer guitar break by Jake Kiszka. The young guitarist is clearly connected to the Old Gods of rock and roll and he puts forth the tone and skill needed to become one, himself. The entire group vibes like veterans on the song and it’s destined to be an important part of the band’s body of work. “Light My Love” gets mellow and peaceful and features one of singer Josh Kiszka’s most compelling and nuanced performances on the record. His high register is quite impressive and he hits it with guts and control.“The Weight of Dreams” is the set’s nearly nine-minute closing track and is an amazing mind and headphone-expanding composition that proves boundless creativity is still very much alive. It allows Greta Van Fleet to express itself in totality without fitting into any pre-constructed box the industry might be looking for. It’s a fitting end to a fine song cycle and will leave you eager to hear what these four young men will cook up next. The Battle at Garden’s Gate is going to provoke strong reactions in every possible direction but, no matter your take on it, the album ensures that Greta Van Fleet will remain the “it” band in rock music for the foreseeable future. It’s an outstanding set well worth much intense listening, so you’d better get started.

Album:

Greta Van Fleet’s much anticipated third studio album Starcatcher, produced by Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile). Lead single "Meeting The Master" along with the full LP were recorded at RCA Studios in Nashville.Like 2021's The Battle At Garden's Gate, a Top Tenn-er on both sides of the Atlantic, Greta Van Fleet's new music will need time and the engagement of your brain to work its gentle magic – Mötley Crüe this ain't. The band, according to singer Josh Kiszka, preserve their sanity by seeking clarity in open spaces. That love of nature’s near mystical allure shines brightly in what might otherwise have been a difficult third album.Starcatcher is full of delightful contrasts, none of them jarring. The music remains emotive and mountainous in scale, but there's no fat here, no pomp-filled production. Josh's crystalline wail seems to almost reverberate, as if sung to you from trees and hills. Guitar playing twin brother Jake, definitely the album's star performer, dazzles with unexpected flurries of note-making and tone. And some of their songs, some of their stranger ideas, are their best to date. While opener Fate Of The Faithful and apt closer Farewell For Now have graceful retro rock presence, it's in the masterful The Archer and deliciously over the top first video Meeting The Master that this album's real virtue lies. The former is a candidate for the quartet's finest creation, the kind of weirdly timeless, skin-tingling anthem that invites each listener to invoke their own interpretation, while the latter is a glorious paean to the band’s justly beloved great outdoors.Sacred The Thread offers more divine intervention, while on the notably more upfront The Falling Sky, they throw in a harmonica solo that somehow elevates rather than distracts. In contrast, the driving rock of Runway Blues seems a missed opportunity; a full pelt rocker that mysteriously melts away after a minute. No matter; Starcatcher is the work of a band not phased by success, but continuing to develop its art. With a nod to the classic rock that inspired them, Greta Van Fleet continue to contort those great influences in challenging and evocative new directions.
