Bio:

House of Lords debuted in 1989 with the release of the self-titled album, a record which is still regarded as one of the best Arena Rock releases of the 80’s. The colossal sound, the soaring vocals of James Christian and instrumental capabilities of the band (which featured ex Angel and Giuffria, Gregg Giuffria, along with such luminaries as Lanny Cordola, Chuck Wright and Ken Mary), reminiscent of such frontrunners as Whitesnake, Deep Purple and Van Halen, immediately brought the band to the attention of the media and fans. With their sophomore release entitled “Sahara”, House of Lords gained considerable chart success with their cover version of Blind Faith’s “Can't Find My Way Home”. After a tour with Nelson in 1991, the group disbanded, eventually coming back together with a new lineup (only featuring original members Giuffria and Christian) in 1992 with "Demon's Down". This was a more melodic record which saw the big contribution at the songwriting helm - between others - of Mark Baker, a guy who penned a couple of years before the majority of the Signal “Loud and Clear” album, one of the most sought after gems of the Melodic Rock genre. With the change of the musical climate, House of Lords went into hibernation until the original lineup came back together in 2000, releasing of the controversial “Power and the Myth” an album which featured a sound leaning more towards Progressive Hard Rock with 70’s rock influences. After a short European tour, singer James Christian decided to go back to the trademark Arena Rock sound of House Of Lords, putting together a new line-up with the blessing of founding member Gregg Giuffria, who opted out right before the release of “Power and the Myth”. New members Jimi Bell on guitars, B.J. Zampa on drums supplied a true powerhouse sound to the fifth studio album “World Upside Down”, a record which caused a real stir in the Hard Rock and Melodic Rock scene and was followed up by the equally impressive “Come to My Kingdom” in 2008.House of Lords toured relentlessly Europe and the States in support to the releases and have now become a true staple between the Hard Rock crowd among the two continents. Needing a more fresh impact in the songwriting, James decided to team again with Mark Baker for the new album entitled “Cartesian Dreams”. The record is just what you can expect and even more: superb hooks, majestic atmospheres that bring back the memories of the debut album, monumental guitar riffs and a production to die for. Everything in “Cartesian Dreams” shines from the first second to the last!Fast forward to September 2011 which will mark the release of the newest addition to a stellar catalogue of songs. BIG MONEY, is well, ‘BIG’. The album starts with the trademark vocals of James Christian and crashes into a Power Rock Classic that you will not forget after the first listen, followed by in a song that Christian describes “as the band’s best work to date”: “One Man Down”. Each song has its own distinct quality as you would expect from The Lords and once again the album is full of soaring choruses, awesome guitar work and songs that grab you from the first listen and don’t let go. James teamed up again on the songwriting with long-time friend and partner Mark Baker along with the other band memmbers Jimi Bell and BJ Zampa.

Album:

Taking a look the really good remastered releases of classic albums done by Axe Killer Records (now re-branded Bad Reputation) here's one that deserve attention: HOUSE OF LORDS second album "Sahara", including a bonus track.HOUSE OF LORDS three first albums are masterpieces in classic Melodic Hard rock / AOR, each one different from each other. While the first is a pompous gem, the third is their 'mature', most elaborated and complete album. And in between we have this "Sahara", the more 'easy' to the ears of the 3, but equally superb in songwriting, performances and the one with 'that' huge, glossy production style from 1990 courtesy of legend Andy Johns. For this 2nd album, original guitarist Lanny Cordola was gone, and in was new guy Michael Guy. Although Guy is credited on guitar, in reality the album was recorded with Doug Aldrich (future Whitesnake axe man). The impressive keyboard work of Gregg Giuffria is still here, Chuck Wright's monster bass lines and Ken Mary's precise drums, alongside mastermind James Christian on lead vocals.“Shoot” opens with an atmospheric keyboard arrangement by Gregg Giuffria, and then explodes into a huge rocker, some kinf of a mix between Kingdom Come and 21 Guns. Chains of Love” is Coverdale-lite, with singer James Christian pouring on as much sass as possible. Aldrich laid down a killer guitar solo as well. Then there's the cover “Can’t Find My Way Home” (Blind Faith original) which House Of Lords makes their own with a terrific crescendo tempo from acoustic to full on band. One of the better rock ballads of 1990, and one of the best HOL tracks ever.House of Lords turn a serious corner on “Heart on the Line”, which sounds like a title for a ballad. This however is a speed racer, a chugging riff powering a rock-corker, which turns Cheap Trick on the chorus. Unsurprisingly, it was written by Rick Neilsen. Brilliant playing and soloing on this one (by Nielsen himself). And yes, before you ask, the track abruptly ends. Then in 'Laydown Staydown' they turn melodic rock very much in the Winger style of the era with its anthemic chorus and keyboard fills.Title track is really impressive, with a quite long intro where Giuffria shines and we have Ken Mary layering a tribal drum effect that would have been very ahead of its time in 1990. Then the song goes for melodic rock something more Winger-like as well, but it jumps from that back into more progressive sections, keeping things balanced and interesting.Next there's another ballad, and a superb one called “It Ain’t Love”. Not just the title, but the main chorus reminds of Dokken. Some fine soloing resides here to sink your fangs into.“Remember My Name” is the other cover song on the album, and chosen as lead single: a power ballad in its maximum, both in its classy midtempo and sound. Killer stuff. Then arrives one of the 'inside cuts', which for me os one of the best on the album; “American Babylon” is a hot guitar driven rocker with biting riffs and a fantastic chorus.“Kiss of Fire” nails it with the knockout punch at the end, a blazing smoker with powerful keyboards and guitar swirls that remind us of Mr. Big. Hot!The bonus track on this Axe Killer reissue is the radio version of 'Can't Find My Way Home', not only edited but also remixed, different.Indeed, HOUSE OF LORDS' "Sahara" is polished, bright, a shining melodic hard rock diamond plenty of punchy but crystal clear songs. This out of print Axe Killer remaster adds the right depth for modern audio players, dynamic, vital in its output.

Album:

After the second album by HOUSE OF LORDS featured here, some of you asked for the band's awesome self-titled debut, also remastered by Axe Killer Records (now re-branded Bad Reputation).Essential into any '80s Melodic Hard Rock / AOR collection, this reissue of "House Of Lords" includes a bonus track, a different, remixed version of the song 'Love Don't Lie', written by the great Stan Bush.Formed from the ashes of Giuffria, featuring keyboardist Gregg Giuffria, House Of Lords signed a deal with Kiss bassist Gene Simmons' own label (and distributed by RCA Records) for two albums.Nobody was calling them a “supergroup”, but most of the members had been around the block more than once, as example vocalist James Christian who worked for many as background singer and songwriter.Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick (with whom the band would later tour) co-wrote the song "Slip of the Tongue". Many other popular hard rock musicians has contributed to the songwriting of the songs on the album, including Stan Bush, David Glen Eisley of Giuffria, Johnny Warman and Mandy Meyer of Asia.As plus, Jeff Scott Soto can be found on backing vocals throughout the whole album. Previously Soto sung with Christian in a project called L.A. Rocks, hence the connection.Lanny Cordola played guitar on the prior Giuffria LP, and continued on to House Of Lords. Bassist Chuck Wright had a stint in Quiet Riot. Drummer Ken Mary kept time during Alice Cooper’s metal phase. All they needed was a singer, and they found a great one in James Christian, who today is the sole remaining original member of House Of Lords. They signed to Gene Simmons’ imprint, and got legendary producer Andy Johns behind the mixing desk. All the ingredients were in place. The keyboard heavy opening on “Pleasure Palace” shows that the Giuffria-the band spirit will be present, and this is a glossy '80s production. James Christian comes across as a full-lunged, well rounded singer. He’s able to sing with a little of blue eyed soul, and he’s capable of the screams too. The feature that actually sets the song apart is the keyboards, very gothic and European sounding, but not wimpy.“I Wanna Be Loved” was the first single / video, an easy choice being midtempo with a shout-along chorus. It's a killer song, one among the buch of killer this album packs. Heaps of backing vocals thicken up the mix, and Lanny Cordola plays a tasteful albeit standard guitar solo on top.“Edge of Your Life” serves as a keyboard power-ballad, and a dramatic one at that. The musicianship is stellar and the arrangement is expert, but the standout performer is James Christian.Since you need a bar room blaster for the dudes, “Lookin’ For Strange” fits the bill. Instruments aflame, and with obvious inspiration from the Van Halen shuffle of old, “Lookin’ For Strange” is nonetheless a ton ‘o fun. EThen there's “Love Don’t Lie”, one of the greatest power ballads of all time, penned by Stan Bush. An this reissue the bonus track is the remix version of the song, edited down and remixed by David Thoener for a single release. This mix was used for the music video as well, and it's quite different.Rock and roll resumes with “Slip of the Tongue”, a title that David Coverdale would use a year later. High octane, full speed ahead, this is House of Lords doing the shred. The musicianship speaks for itself and you can hear clear Whitesnake and Thin Lizzy influences. The fast pace sets up “Hearts of the World” very well via contrast. From here, the album becomes more progressive, dramatic, and bombastic.“Hearts of the World” is AOR perfection, choppy with caverns of keyboards and waterfalls of gang vocals. I love it. This is a perfect example of why I love this musical genre so much.“Under Blue Skies” follow this with bagpipes and majestic keyboard horns. It’s another dramatic, melodic winner with progressive qualities. The outro has those “na na na na na” vocals that all but guarantee you’ll be singing along.“Call My Name” makes it three in a row, though it changes the forecast to sunny. Bright and positive, “Call My Name” is still a big sounding song, with the gang vocals and guitar shreddery that you’ve come to expect.Cordola gets the chance to show a lil’ bit (a minute) of classical guitar chops as an intro to “Jealous Heart”, the last of 10 tracks. This is a monnster midtempo AOR / MHR tune that I always found similar to some Journey. It doesn't matter, it's a fantastic song on its own."House Of Lords" is close to Melodic Hard Rock / AOR perfection. It's bombastic, catchy, big, but also meaty, elaborated. It's a pillar in the '80s works for the genre, and a must have. This Axe Killer remaster - not easy to find - is fabulous, done several years ago in the 'old school' way but darn, it's terrific. The difference with the other CD versions is simply abysmal.

Album:

Many melodic hard rock fans didn't take notice that HOUSE OF LORDS' album "Anthology" isn't just the usual 'Best Of' studio hits, instead, this is a stellar compilation of unreleased tracks, rare pre-production demos and live recordings.Produced, engineered and mixed by the band's original drummer Ken Mary, the sound quality of the material included into "Anthology" is top notch.House Of Lords' foundations lay in Giuffria, led by titular keyboardist Gregg Giuffria. After being dropped by MCA after their second album Silk And Steel, the band started demoing songs for a tentative third album. While shopping for a new deal, the band caught the attention of Kiss' Gene Simmons, who happened to be starting his own label at the time, Simmons Records. The famous bassist enjoyed what he heard, but would only sign them on the condition of starting a new band from the scratch. So the remaining Giuffria members, namely Gregg Giuffria, guitarist Lanny Cordola and bass player Chuck Wright, would enlist the talents of Alice Cooper drummer Ken Mary.Connecticut-born James Christian was then brought in at the suggestion of - and previous companion in L.A. Rocks - Chuck Wright. But before the release of House Of Lords self-titled debut, there was a lot of rehearsal, songwriting sessions and pre-production recordings. Many of these songs are here in "Anthology".We have here two newly recorded versions of 'I Wanna Be Loved' (the single that started it all) and the hit 'Can't Find My Way Home'.Then we have the pre-production demos from 1988-1990. There are some real belters on here, especially the unreleased tracks.'Dangerous Woman' is a killer bluesy hard rocker plenty of harmony vocals and swirling keyboards, performed by talented keyboardist John Purdell (Heart, Ted Nugent), who also co-wrote the song.'Hold Back The Night' is monster power ballad that I can't believe the band never included into any of their albums, while 'Hero's Song' is a slow tune with great atmospheres.Another superb unreleased track is 'The Legend Lives On', composed by Wright and Bruce Gowdy (Unruly Child), a fantastic keyboard-driven AOR tune with a classic Giuffria feel on it. This song alone worth this CD. AWESOME tune.'Bad Bones' is a classic bluesy hard rock track which brings to mind Mr. Big, then 'Beyond The Pale' is a driving rocker with some Whitesnake on it, with a busy guitar work. There's different, pre-production demo versions of 'Chains Of Love', 'Kiss Of Fire' and 'Sahara', a rare experimental take on 'American Babylon' done with Greek instruments, a very good live recordings done in The Netherlands in 1989."Anthology" is a must have melodic hard rock album, showcasing how talented House Of Lords where at the time, even in a pre-production stage.Demo tracks 1 and 2 is dated back to 1988 to 1990.Tracks 3 to 5 are recorded with the bands late friend John Purdell, who at the time was also working with Ozzy Osbourne on "No More Tears".Tracks 12 to 14 are a live songs at various performances in Europe in 1989 and are board mixes.Track 15 was an experiment using Greek instrumentation and was recorded on a portable cassette deck in 1994.

Album:

Here's some unreleased HOUSE OF LORDS material. After a long hiatus, leader James Christian started to plan the return of the band at the beginning of the new Millennium. This was materialized with the album The Power And The Myth released in 2004, a record with more progressive orientation that disappointed first time fans.In my book, The Power And The Myth is a very good album, mature and with superb musicianship. It isn't the bombastic melodic hard rock the band was previously known for, but a really solid and interesting evolution in musical terms. However, the genesis of the album, or better, the HOL return, was in fact inspired by the sound & style of its origins, and the proof are these demos recorded around 2001, later discarded.Songs like the punchy 'Shotgun Doctor' is driven by a sharp guitar riff akin House Of Lords' second album Sahara, midtempo 'After The Love Is Gone' has great atmospheres akin the first, same with the pulsating 'Angel Of The City', which in fact was written in the '80s.'Hero's Song' was included into the recently featured here 'Anthology', and 'Love Can Build A Bridge' is a midtempo ballad with acoustic guitars into the mix in the classic HOL style of the beginning. One of my favorite from these demo sessions is 'Cruel (Someday)', a midtempo AOR tune with a fantastic melody, sweet vocals, a catchy chorus and radio potential. I love this tune. There's an 'Instrumental' workout for a solid, quite epic rocking song, and from the original 1988 demo session, we have the rare original version of 'Angel Of The City (80s demo version)'.All these demos are in very good quality sound. The make this compilation more complete, there's all the Japan bonus tracks, from all House Of Lords releases to date.As plus, included is the song House Of Lords recorded for the ARfm Radio benefit CD known as "The Undying Fire", a Limited Edition collection of 14 tracks all of which are either brand new, unreleased or live, provided by top melodic hard rock acts. House Of Lords contributed with the unreleased 'Point Of No Return', especially recorded for the project. As extra, you have the very good melodic rock song 'Every Little Lie', appeared as bonus track in the Japanese edition of James Christian's solo album 'Lay It All On Me'.

Album:

REMASTERED EDITION WITH 2 BONUS TRACKS / Two years after "Sahara", and while the period no longer seems to belong to Melodic Hard Rock, House of Lords offered us " Demons Down". It was a new turn-over in the crew : Gregg Giuffria and James Christian were still in charge of the band but the duo recruited some big names on board with bassist Sean McNabb (Great White) who replaced Chuck Wright whom he had already replaced within Quiet Riot, and especially with the legendary Tommy Aldridge behind the drums. The US combo was completed by guitarist Dennis Chick (VVSI). The production is even more powerful than on its predecessors, carried by the keyboards of Giuffria. The latter succeeds in filling each space while letting the other instruments express themselves. The voice of James Christian is undoubtedly the jewel of the crown and is supported by omnipresent choirs reinforced by some prestigious guests (Paul Stanley, Fiona, David Glen Eisley). The rhythm section propels the ensemble with strength and accuracy, while Dennis Chick puts his talent at the service of the ensemble, while sliding some quality soli, and a shred of first order on the introduction of a "Down, Down, Down", because this is indeed the main strength of House Of Lords on "Demons Down": it is impossible to find any weakness, whether in the interpretation or in the composition. Helped by Giuffria and Christian, House of Lords tutors even the stars on Inside You, helped by Alan Pasqua (Giant), on which the emotion is at the top of the skin. Each title deserves that we stop and make of "Demons Down" an accomplished work. You can buy this real masterpiece again in a remastered version.

Line Up:

James Christian - vocals
Chick - guitar, backing vocals
Sean McNabb - bass, backing vocals
Gregg Giuffria - keyboards, backing vocals
Tommy Aldridge - drums, backing vocals

Tracklist:

01. O Father
02. Demons Down
03. What's Forever For
04. Talkin' 'bout Love
05. Spirit Of Love
06. Down, Down, Down
07. Metallic Blue
08. Inside You
09. Johnny's Got A Mind Of His Own
10. Can't Fight Love
11. O Father (Single Version) (Bonus Track)
12. What's Forever For (Short Version) (Bonus Track)

Album:

Frontiers Music Srl will release of HOUSE OF LORDS' tenth studio album, titled "Indestructible", on June 3 in Europe and June 7 in North America. The CD shows once again what HOUSE OF LORDS stands for: powerful and heavy songs, with major hooks and melodies and grandiose arrangements. The official video for the new HOUSE OF LORDS song "Go To Hell", taken from "Indestructible", can be seen below."The name 'Indestructible' was chosen because we all felt that we have been through a lot in our long careers and what better way to say, 'Hey, I'm still here' than by giving the CD a bold title," says HOUSE OF LORDS singer James Christian."Indestructible" features eleven brand new songs, which masterfully combine the best of heavy and melodic hard rock."The album is heavier in the beginning, but we love songs that are both melodic and heavy," continues Christian, "and the idea was to fill the best of both on one CD without sounding like two different bands. I think we have accomplished that. A good example would be the song 'Pillar Of Salt' especially gives a good representation of how the new album sounds: a combination of heavy, melodic, and thoughtful lyrics. This song is one of my favorites!"Besides being HOUSE OF LORDS tenth studio album, the new record sees the HOUSE OF LORDS lineup celebrating its first ten years together."It is amazing to work with BJ, Chris and Jimi," says James Christian. "They are all very aware of what HOUSE OF LORDS represents and they are committed to making records that complement the history of the band. No matter which HOUSE OF LORDS album you listen to, there is a common thread, which comes from the fact that the four of us are musically in sync. This is the real reason why we have been able to produce records of this caliber."

Album:

Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to announce the release of “Saint Of The Lost Souls”, the 11th studio album from House Of Lords. The album, which is the follow-up to their highly successful “Indestructible”, will be released on March 24th. Recorded and produced by the band’s singer and mastermind James Christian, this collection of songs has an incredible flow of up-tempo and mid-tempo rockers mixed with power ballads, which lean a bit more toward keyboards this time around, but without compromising the band's trademark sound which is based around Jimi Bell’s guitar. “Saint Of The Lost Souls” is already one of the year's most anticipated melodic rock releases and will not disappoint fans of the band or genre. James Christian's well-crafted and smooth vocals bring the band's craft to new heights. Guitarist Jimi Bell is on fire and the melodic riffs throughout the album will leave you breathless. A new addition on bass is Chris Tristram, who is no stranger to the rock community.

Album:

“New World - New Eyes” is House Of Lords’ tenth studio album, following the well-received “Saint Of The Lost Souls”. Recorded and produced by the band’s singer and mastermind James Christian, this collection of songs has an incredible flow of up-tempo and mid-tempo rockers mixed with power ballads, which lean a bit more toward keyboards this time around, but without compromising the band's trademark sound, which is based around Jimi Bell’s guitar work. “New World - New Eyes” is already one of the year’s most anticipated melodic rock releases and will not disappoint fans of the band or genre. James Christian's well-crafted and smooth vocals bring the band's craft to new heights. Guitarist Jimi Bell is on fire and the melodic riffs throughout the album will leave you breathless. Chris Tristram on bass is more solid than ever and BJ Zampa brings a solid and powerful rhythm foundation to House Of Lords. This time, the band has co-operated with none other than Mark Spiro (Giant, Bad English, Cheap Trick, etc.) on the songwriting of most of the songs.
