Bio:

Crashdïet (often stylized as CRASHDÏET) are a Swedish glam metal band from Stockholm. They have released four albums: 2005's Rest in Sleaze, 2007's The Unattractive Revolution, 2010s Generation Wild and 2013's The Savage Playground...The band was originally formed in 2000. Taking influence from Kiss, Mötley Crüe, Skid Row, Guns N' Roses, and Hanoi Rocks, Crashdïet built up a cult following with the release of their first demos, several of which were released on their official website via download. In 2002, the band split up, and vocalist Dave Lepard reformed the band with members from the current lineup, while the old members went to play in Repugnant and SubVision. In 2003 Crashdiet released their first self-titled EP, though only 500 copies were pressed. In 2004 they got signed to Universal Records after people in the staff saw the band drinking outside a liquor store and was impressed by their Rock n' Roll image

Album:

Something amazing has happened ladies and gentlemen - we may have just gotten the album of the year and it’s only the end of January! Yes, you heard me correctly — album of the fricken year! I have been a Crashdiet fan since 2009 and the release of Generation Wild when that furiously devilish album grabbed me by the throat and ripped me a new one. Since then, it has been four long years without new material from one of the most promising bands ‘this side of Hudson Bay’. But finally the wait has ended and now we are inclined to enter the Savage Playground. I will try to make this review as least gushy as possible, but it will be quite difficult seeing as the material on this album has stunned me from the first listening session.Upon entering the playground, you will immediately be greeted with a more muddled production. But do not let this hold you back because the caliber of these thirteen songs (fourteen if you include bonus track “Liquid Jesus”) are actually enhanced by the production in overall heaviness and sleaze-ability. Walk a few paces into the center of the playground, you will be greeted with a quick but fiery jab in the chest from “Change the World” — a track that leaves you breathless and actually wanting to the change the dreary world of mainstream pop music and instate Crashdiet as the rightful kings of radio. You cannot breathe for a second but you quickly catch your breath when you see the “Cocaine Cowboys” slinking towards you — they’re mean and nasty, but fun and head-banginly good. If you have not heard “Cocaine Cowboys” yet (shame on you and get the hell off this page) they speak of something called ‘Anarchy’ and becoming intrigued you follow them into the sewers beneath the playground itself. There you are greeted with what may be the most fist-pumping, blood boiling anthem of the year. “Anarchy” is short, sweet, and to the point… but it is oh so good! Ahead a light is shimmering, the ‘cowboys’ show a city underground directly underneath the playground. It looks strangely like “California” which has such a killer groove and chorus that you would be damned before leaving. As you walk the underground city streets, you spot a “Lickin’ Dog” and hear one of the best guitar riffs off the album as well as some of the angriest lyrics Crashdiet has ever dared pen. A “Circus” looms up ahead but you are hesitant to enter. The frenzy of the verses plus the unadulterated fun of the chorus are enough to shake you up and get you running. You run so far that you end up in “Sin City” which feels so ’80s hair metal-tastic and is defiantly the most retro sounding song on the album. Now you “Got A Reason” to stop and listen for a second — the chorus to this one is insanely catchy and the verses crooned by good ole Simon Cruz are almost too sleazy, if that were actually possible. Soon enough, you enter a bar and begin “Drinkin’ Without You” which has one hell of a rhythm and a great solo by none other than Martin Sweet with Eric Young and Peter London frantically dueling alongside. Suddenly, you spot some “Snakes In Paradise” which is undoubtedly the sexiest and sleaziest anthem Crashdiet has ever written. The chorus is sweet and the vocals are just my cup of hair metal tea. You see across the bar a “Damaged Kid” drinking and you become “Exited” in a hurry to speak with her because she is dazzlingly beautiful. These two songs are just great with some killer riffing, soloing, singing, and of course lyrics going on. Did I forget to mention that the lyrics on this album are outstanding? After drinking your fill, you step back outside and are greeted to a new setting, the daunting and gasoline fueled “Garden Of Babylon”. Now this is how you end an album! Finally a band gets it where they do not need to play pointlessly for seven odd minutes just to end the album on a sour note. Crashdiet have achieved the unthinkable and actually made a sleaze epic with this one! My God, the sheer power of the vocals and chorus is enough to sell me on a band that has never given up even in the face of tragedy. This album, this playground, is the real deal folks. I cannot quite put into words the happiness I have with finally adding this album to my collection. All I can say is, thank you Crashdiet… thank you so much for changing my world.

Album:

Swedish sleaze standard-bearers CRASHDIET released the fourth full length studio album earlier this year, but in the middle of the biggest tour of their career, manager and financier Michael John Sunden died in a freak accident. Crashdiet then started the 'Save the Tour' campaign destined to raise funds and help finish the tour. Different kind of items were offered such as T-shirts, backstage passes, etc. The result was more than satisfactory, triplicating the initial goal. Amongst the exclusive merchandising there was "The Demo Sessions", a collection of 10 previously unreleased songs in a demo form. Now Crashdiet has decided to make "The Demo Sessions" available for purchase at their website only. This is a collection of demos recorded throughout the years singer Simon Cruz has been in the band that never made it into any official album - except "Change The World", presented here in its early version. The sound quality is really good, and as you can expect the overall delivery is raw & in your face, something that some fans of the band have been missing lately. To be honest, many of the songs included in "The Demo Sessions" are much better than the ones from the last CD. "Cornerstone Trippin´", "Black Rose", "Erase Me" and the Kiss-like Asylum-era "Innocence" are very good crunchy rockers, "She's No Angel" recalls the hair metal days of Warrant, while there's a really nice ballad in "Women Come, Women Go"."The Demo Sessions" is available for purchase at Crashdiet's website only, and soon will become a collectors item.

Album:

This recording is very well done and captures the essence of Crashdiet completely.THE SAVAGE PLAYGROUND is the title of the brand new Crashdiet album which was released at the beginning of January. The previous studio album, GENERATION WILD, came out in 2010 so it was about time for the boys to release something new for the fans. The band has been out on tour in Europe, America, Australia and have done shows at various festivals as well. This current mini-tour takes the band to Oslo and to 4 cities in Sweden before it ends. Along on the tour Crashdiet brought along the bands Sister and Toxic Rose. The show in Malmoe took place on a Saturday which meant that Kulturbolaget throws a nightclub so the doors opened at 7 o clock and the first band was scheduled to go on at 8. This show was also the first one for me this year at my second home – Kulturbolaget. The majority of people in the venue were young girls but as time passed by more people entered the club. Most of the crowd were dressed as 80’s rockers with raggedy shirts and tight pants combined with crazy high hair styles. I could spot a fence in front of the stage which made my night because it’s much more easy to take pictures without having fists and crazy headbangers in front of the camera lens. At 7.30 went the lights out and it was time for the support act to take place on stage.

Album:

Hand numbered, limited to 300 copies. There's great news for CRASHDIET fans and sleaze hard rock enthusiasts in general as the remaining three group members just released a live album entitled "Live In Sleaze", a limited edition on CD and LP.Captured in 2005, this a real treat as the album contains one of the few live recordings from this era. Few months later, lead singer Dave Lepard would leave this earth (committed suicide). This is a chance to witness the raw and unpolished energy of a young and furious rock band at their peak.Back in the mid-2000's CRASHDIET made a mess everywhere they went. The group was the first sleaze rock act in decades to get signed directly to a major label. In support of their critically acclaimed and charting debut album ”Rest In Sleaze”, the band toured every venue in Sweden.CRASHDIET was signed by Universal in 2004 — making them, by their reckoning, the first sleaze rock act on a major label in over ten years — and released their debut, "Rest In Sleaze", the following year. The album hit number 12 on the national charts and spawned the singles “Riot in Everyone,” “Breaking the Chainz,” “Knokk ‘Em Down,” and “It’s a Miracle,” and the band launched an auspicious tour of Sweden to support it in the fall of 2005.In January 2006, however, the band’s lead singer and guiding light, 25-year-old Dave Lepard, committed suicide in his apartment after a bout of depression. His three surviving bandmates decided they couldn’t continue the band without Lepard, but given an unexpected outpouring of sympathy and support from fans worldwide, they performed one final tribute gig in February.Several months later, the ex-members of Crashdïet met to discuss future plans, decided to continue on as a new band, and began searching for a new singer."Live In Sleaze" is a great document from CRASHDIET's heyday, a band that helped to resurrect classic hard rock world-wide after dark ages of somber mainstream rock music.Mixed and mastered by expert Chris Laney, "Live In Sleaze" is a raw, in-your-face slice of sleaze, glammy hard rock with a middle-finger attitude and a kick ass delivery.

Line Up:

Dave Lepard - Lead Vocals, Guitar
Martin Sweet - Guitar, Backing Vocals
Peter London - Bass, Backing Vocals
Eric Young - Drums, Backing Vocals

Album:

Swedish sleaze kings CRASHDIET have been pretty quiet for the last 3 years, but the band is back in full force with new singer and new album next year. And they have announced the re-release of their second album on vinyl LP under the title "The Unattractive Revolution [10th Anniversary Edition +1]".Dïet Records‘ press release states: CRASHDIET is back with a new single to be released on new year's eve. In all this excitement about the future, it’s still worth to take a look back. After all, it was 10 years ago we released 'The Unattractive Revolution' – an album that is loved by many – while at the same time has been kind of overlooked by us through out the years. Probably due to the internal struggles we had, as a band, at the time it was released. It truly is a great album, and we’ve worked together with Universal Records to make a vinyl release happen. And it just did! - said guitarist Martin Sweet.Obviously it’s a little bit different to release a vinyl through the big Universal-machine compared to when you D.I.Y. This is a worldwide release – on colored vinyl – and it will probably be available in your local record store too (if you still have any ."The Unattractive Revolution" is the band's second album, recorded after after the death of singer Dave Lepard. While some people were skeptical if these guys could manage to deliver an album close to the standard of 2005’s glorious Rest In Sleaze without their main songwriter, I was simply happy that they got through the hard times and got on with the band. First off, you can’t deny the great songwriting by the boys; every song has killer riffs and hooks which make them standout. “In The Raw” starts thing off in true CRASHDIET style with riveting hooks, great catchy chords and the vocals of newcomer Olliver Twisted being a little raspy but fitting perfectly in the band's mold. The boys still hold tight with the fantastic harmonies which are a key element to success.“Like A Sin” keeps the ball rolling as they kick it up a notch driving home another fierce shredding tune, the song just elevates and the chorus is outstanding, Martin goes off the hook. The anthemic “Falling Rain” is a highlight, and should have been huge in Rock radio. It rocks hard yet has a softer side of melodic rhythms. Twisted does one helluva job which is not easy trying to win over CRASHDIET fans and this is just one example of great musicians collaborating in harmony. When all members hook up with the harmonies and background vocals throughout the CD, this makes the songs run smooth and you can hear the excitement on “Alone” that also features Mick Mars from MÖTLEY CRUE. “Alone” is not your typical style CRASHDÏET power tune, its more melodic yet still adds the power of Mars guitar which makes the song heavier. If I had to give a comparison of Ollie’s voice, I would say he’s on the same wave as Joe Elliot.“XTC Overdrive” is one of those arena songs that will have crowd participation and is another high profile tune that rocks your socks off.“Overnight” is one of these often called 'inside tracks', but for me is one of the best. It has a little DEF LEPPARD feel over the melody and the way the hook and harmony vocals are arranged. Great song. This "The Unattractive Revolution [10th Anniversary Edition +1]" features the previously unreleased track, another riff-tastic rocker with a strong melody. This is a killer rocking record with bright punchy sound & production, more 'hard rock' than sleaze than CRASHDIET's previous album, and this reissue is more than welcomed to re-discover this piece of pure Swedish-sounding stuff

Line Up:

Olliver Twisted – lead vocals
Martin Sweet – guitar, backing vocals
Peter London – bass, backing vocals
Eric Young – drums, backing vocals

with:

Mick Mars (Motley Crue) – guitar (4, 6)

"Rust" is the first studio album in six years and the follow-up to the 2013 effort "The Savage Playground". It also signifies the first album to feature the band's newest member, vocalist Gabriel Keyes, who joined the band in 2017. "Rust" was produced by Martin Sweet (apart from two tracks produced by Eric Bazilian and Chris Laney) and mixed by Chris Laney, who previously worked with the band on their 2005 critically acclaimed debut, "Rest In Sleaze".Despite initially forming in 2000 and developing a cult following in their native Sweden, it was the reformed Crashdïet of 2002 onwards that have achieved global success. Constructed by the tragic vocalist Dave Lepard, Rest In Sleaze (2005) gained universal attention but 2006 saw the sad loss of Lepard. The legacy continued with the support of the Lepard family and the addition of H. Olliver Twisted (Reckless Love) in 2007. 2009 saw Simon Cruz fill the shoes of Twisted for the release of 2010’s Generation Wild and The Savage Playground (2013). December 2017 saw Crashdïet announce a new single, We Are The Legion with the astonishing Gabriel Keyes as the latest lead singer, the single Reptile was released over a year later and now, finally, Rust! A full length album with a further nine tracks, believe me when I say this has been worth waiting for.The album was produced by founder member/guitarist Martin Sweet (apart from two tracks produced by Eric Bazilian and Chris Laney) and mixed by Chris Laney, who previously worked with the group on their critically acclaimed 2005 debut, ‘Rest In Sleaze’.Commencing with the title track, Rust with its groovy bass-slapping and hints of Dr. Feelgood before going full rock camembert with Bon Jovi, Led Zeppelin, WASP and Skid Row smatterings. It made me laugh out loud, with joy. It’s a great track, perhaps leaning a little into Steel Panther territory, but that I can live with. As an album opener it sets the tone fantastically, for a long term fan that had not heard the previous single releases- this could be a head scratcher. But persevere!Into The Wild is punchier, but lacking the cheeky nods of the previous track thankfully. As such, kick back and delight in an album that could have easily dropped in the late 80’s. Rhythmical, tight and upbeat with an unique and unexpected bridge. It’s a damn good track.Idiots was released three months ago and the video is ‘a tribute to the best movies ever made, according to the band’s cinematic opinion’. A true homage to metal, rather than a parody. It truly has to be seen. With more than a few passing nods to the Penelope Spheeris’ directed The Decline of Western Civilisation Part II: The Metal Years (Chris Holmes W.A.S.P in the pool/ Ozzy in the kitchen), Wayne’s World and Spinal Tap moments (which Spheeris turned down). There’s reference to the Judas Priest: Heavy Metal parking Lot and even some classic G’n R posturing. It’s a great, harder edged sleazy track, leaning more towards old school LA Guns (melodically and in structure, not lyrically) with a powerful breakdown at the end. Let me know what classic scenes I missed!Gently we are led In The Maze a rousing ballad which demonstrates a greater maturity and the depth of Keyes vocals. We Are The Legion was the first single released, almost two years ago (which is an impressive lead time!) and it’s a crunchy, punk tinged, early Skid Row styled stomper of a track. We are the religion of our time, so let us stand our ground.Crazy is a high octane party tune, while Parasite increases the aggression in a track that oozes vintage 80’s metal nostalgia with crisp modern production. Waiting For Your Love drops the pace and increases the melancholia for a synth led and very European track which is a phenomenal showcase for the vocals of Keyes. The poignancy is somewhat lost by the sci-fi/ spacey effects which in my opinion elevates the track.Reptile hits with a Motorhead style entrance and a rousing chorus, bass driven and euphoric. I cannot wait to see how this transposes live as it undulates and lures beyond comfort. Stop Weirding Me Out, despite a title that grated with me a little (I guess it has been said to me a lot) is actually a blinding slab of zealous positivity concerning the end of a relationship. Empowering and epic fun. The album closes with the gentle, but crushing intensity of Filth & Flowers which channels more NWOBHM vibes. Melodic, inherently catchy, with its inbuilt nods to familiar classics without outright plagiarising. It’s far cleverer than the sum of its parts, Crashdïet have delivered an album that rises above the turmoil and despondency of these current times. While we live and breathe, we can still party, right? Rust is not reinventing the wheel, but it has certainly greased the motor of sleaze. Let’s get this train a-rollin, all aboard? I’ll meet you at the station..

Album:

Crashdïet is back with a 6th album, "Automaton". Just like a gigantic robotic machine with pre-determined instructions, failure was never an option ... no matter what obstacles may have come their way in the past, like tragic deaths, sudden line-up changes and the likes. Crashdïet has always marched forward, delivering its own style of sleaze metal. "Automaton" contains 11 powerful sing-along anthems with massive drums, guitars, bass & powering vocals, including a surprise special guest and a haunting voice from the past.CRASHDIET is back releasing their 6th studio album on April 29th, and it's as good as if not better than the previous. With a history nothing short of true rock and roll glory, CRASHDIET know just what it means to continue on and move forward despite the path being littered with destruction and pitfalls that could have destroyed them. They grew from those experiences, and kept them close as they release yet another great, solid album: Automaton.Automaton starts out with the intro with the late founder of CRASHDIET Dave Lepard speaking some words, creating what will be the standard for the album, short and sweet, that 30 second clip creates the feel for the rest of the 12 tracks on the album. The second track on the album “Together Whenever” comes at you out of nowhere, and doesn’t let go, the track brings the sleaze sound that we have come to expect from CRASHDIET with a growth from the last album, with a hint of what CRASHDIET has always stood for: Rock and Roll and powerful vocals and music to go with it. It's a familiar taste, yet one you’ve never had before to start out a solid album.“Darker Minds” is more melodic but still in the same form that we know CRASHDIET for, allowing the guitar riffs and solo to burn bright, and gives you a chance to hear what Martin Sweet can do with an Ax, and allows the album to flow smoothly without overdoing the heavy sleaze sound to drown out the talent and skills of the musicians.“We Die Hard” is a strong track, with everything to be a powerful anthem to anyone with a dream or a goal, that may seem impossible, it's that heart, that feeling that nothing will stop you that keeps you going, and this could very well be that anthem to keep you going, the guitar heavy track melts with the vocals creating a strong track, one that could be sang along with at a show in the future, one I could see myself fist in the air singing along with.“Unbroken” is the perfect sleaze song for today's world, you have the riffs, the bass and the vocals that all meld so well together, from start to finish the song is perfect sleaze rock that could have easily put them on the map any time during the early 80’s where all those dynamics played an important role, where the bass kept the listener engaged and demanded the attention of those listening to remain, all while bringing a track that can be played again and again and hear something new from it each time. The bass playing on this track by Peter London does that as well as brings the track full circle, with a great sleaze track, whether a longtime fan or first time listener, will enjoy.Rounding out the album is “I Can't Move On (Without You)”, a ballad that brings out yet another side to the band, an acoustic track that puts Gabriel Keyes vocals front and center with a soft guitar and bass line that uplifts to a higher level throughout the track, leaving you content yet questioning, all while drawing out other feelings and emotions, remaining true to their genre and style while taking their place in music, as a band that can't be placed in just one genre or style, they can branch out, all while staying true to what they create.Automaton overall is a great album, with evolution apparent from their last release, growth and comfort find a balance, a band that has had their share of success and tragedy, have taken the experiences and used them to push forward, unstoppable in their quest to create and share their take on sleaze rock to those who are wanting to listen and share, those that still want the party but have grown from life events that may not have been planned or expected, that pushed the boundaries of what was possible, but still want to be able to put on an album and live in the moment, and live without limits, even for a little while. CRASHDIET takes that want and provides us an album to do so.
