Bio:

Sinner are a German heavy metal band formed by vocalist and bassist Mat Sinner in 1982 (who later joined Primal Fear). They were part of the German heavy/speed/power metal scene. Their latest album, One Bullet Left, was released in 2011.Based in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Sinner released their first album, Wild'n'Evil in 1982. This album, along with the next two (Fast Decision and Danger Zone) were raw affairs, having little in common with the melodic metal they would later become known for. After many personnel changes (including drummer Edgar Patrik leaving to join Bonfire), the band saw the addition of Accept's Herman Frank on guitars and the release of Touch of Sin in 1985. Frank would leave before the next album, 1986's Comin' Out Fighting, with future U.D.O. guitarist Mathias Dieth replacing him.1987 saw the release of Dangerous Charm, a much more melodic album than previous efforts, but shortly after this the band took a break and wouldn't be heard of again for five years. In 1990 Mat Sinner released a solo album called Back to the Bullet on BMG with a completely new band. Three members of the Mat Sinner band reformed Sinner and released No More Alibis in 1992, an album far heavier than anything Sinner had released before. This renewed vigour coupled with songwriting that far exceeded the band's previous releases not only carried on but strengthened with Respect in 1994 and Bottom Line in 1995, the latter staying in the Japanese national charts for five weeks. Since the reformation the band's reputation had improved immensely, touring as support for bands such as Mr. Big and Savatage as well as headlining their own German tour and releasing a live album. Sinner were to reach even higher peaks though, releasing two hugely successful albums with Judgement Day in 1997 and The Nature of Evil in 1998 before touring Europe as support for rock giants Deep Purple. The Nature of Evil was the band's most successful album to date, reaching No. 63 in the German album charts. In 1998 Mat Sinner and Tom Naumann, who had been with Sinner since their reformation in 1992 formed Primal Fear with ex-Gamma Ray vocalist Ralf Scheepers. Mat Sinner has been involved as a driving force in both Sinner and Primal Fear to this day.

Mat Sinner (1987)

In 2000 the band saw its first line-up change in five years as several members left, including guitarist Tom Naumann while ex-Helloween and Gamma Ray's Uli Kusch filled in on drums for The End of Sanctuary. However, in 2003 the previous 1995–1999 line-up renewed itself and released There Will Be Execution before going quiet again for four years. In the past nine years the band had released six albums, each as good, if not better than the last, proving to be the band's most successful period. This success would continue, as after releasing two more albums with Primal Fear, an album with his pre-Sinner band Goddess Shiva and guesting on Tribuzy's debut album, Mat Sinner brought Sinner back to release Mask of Sanity in 2007. This album spawned two popular singles in "Diary of Evil" and "Black" and included a faithful rendition of Thin Lizzy's "Baby Please Don't Go".

Album:

The German heavy metal lineup Sinner is named after its founder, the singer and bassist Mat Sinner, named. In 1984 she published her third album "Danger Zone" with Noise Records and opened a new chapter in its development. Until 1987, even should the albums "Touch Of Sin," "Comin 'Out Fighting" and "Dangerous Charm" appear in Noise. With a very melody-hugging design of the Heavy Metal sounds the Stuttgart played in the hearts of many fans. Especially the album "Touch Of Sin" is regarded by many as a classic and online is traded at a high price. Since the "Best Of" this phase in detail illuminated, you get the classic so again at a cheap price.

However, in 2003 the previous 1995–1999 line-up renewed itself and released There Will Be Execution before going quiet again for four years. This album spawned two popular singles in "Diary of Evil" and "Black" and included a faithful rendition of Thin Lizzy's "Baby Please Don't Go".

Album:

Matt Sinner and his first band, Sinner, have released their 16th full-length album; and 17th if you include Matt Sinner’s solo CD released in 1990 and included the line-up of Sinner at the time. Their latest effort is entitled Crash & Burn and is the first time the band have released an album in consecutive years since their 1997/1998 CD’s, called Judgement Day and Nature Of Evil.2007’s Mask Of Sanity was a pretty good, yet a standard Sinner release; and Crash & Burn seems to be following in the same footsteps. Sinner have been one of those bands who have rarely changed their sound over the decades (much like AC/DC) and in those few cases, works for them. Sinner play your traditional heavy metal, a mix of both European heavy metal and American 80’s hard rock/metal.Crash & Burn sees a return to their roots kinda feel, where Sinner churn out the short, three and a half minute rockin’ tracks, that you would hear playing in any rowdy bar or pub across the land. Nothing special, just metal and hard rock, songs about fighting, women and all round “guy’s stuff”. Although this type of hard rock/metal appeals to me, being a huge fan of AC/DC, I must say that it does get a tad boring if all you’re hearing is the same song structure over and over again. Despite this, there are still some great tracks on here, containing some wicked foot-taping, head-shaking riffs, grooves and beats; and some top-notch solos. The thing I miss most about Sinner is their more in-depth, creatively written tracks; the ones which actually went beyond the five minute mark. Songs which graced previous Sinner releases from the 90’s and 2000, but alas, it seems those days are now gone, unfortunately.I must say that guitarist Henny Wolter has done another great job on Crash & Burn since returning to the flock after a years absence (as well as a returning member of Primal Fear). Along with Christof Leim; these two have ripped out some cracking riffs, licks and solos. Matt Sinner as the bassist, did very well, but Matt Sinner as the vocalist, was a little inconsistent on Crash & Burn. He’s lost a bit of range and delivery in his voice, but still has that raspy, grating, coarse feel in his voice which makes him unique and perfect for their style of metal. Some of the better tracks off the album include the following: Crash & Burn, with its air-raid siren starting the show before the fast-paced opening riff and beat begins. The Dog is probably one of the best tracks on the CD, having a cool “driving” riff which keeps your head nodding every time you hear it. Break The Silence is a slower, mid-paced track, but totally riff driven with a catchy chorus. Revolution has a great southern rock/bluesy feel, with a kick-ass solo in the middle. Until It Hurts is a slower track, featuring acoustics and heavy bass. With a pick up during the chorus, this track is another of the best on the CD. Finally, Like A Rock, the album closer, has a great driving riff, a catchy chorus and a top vocal performance by Mr. Sinner. The limited edition version of Crash & Burn contains two bonus tracks (One Night Only and Fast Decision 2008) and a video clip of Revolution. Here’s the bottom line; although Crash & Burn is an enjoyable yet typical Sinner release, it’s not their best effort, nor their worst. Obviously, it’s not meant to be ground-breaking, just something to rock out to while chuggin’ a beer with your buddies, or while driving in your car.If you enjoyed what you heard on Mask Of Sanity, or even any release of Sinner in the past ten years, then Crash & Burn will tickle your fancy. Anyone loving their traditional hard rock/metal, from the 80’s till now, will have an interest; and possibly fans of Primal Fear might also wanna check it out.

Mat Sinner has been involved as a driving force in both Sinner and Primal Fear to this day.Sinner album sales have never been spectacular: it is estimated they sold less than 150,000 copies of their first three releases. The band's six and seven track albums of the 90s, Respect and Bottom Line, sold less than 200,000 combined and without any real advertising except that of word of mouth. Sinner's fourth full-length album, Judgement Day, received fair reviews but again had little advertising put into it as the band spent most of its money on recording. Sinner's Nature of Evil released in 1998 proved to be the band's most successful original album with over 100,000 copies sold. Nature of Evil was advertised heavily on the internet mostly on German Music web sites. In 1998 and 1999 Sinner released two compilation albums, the first was Emerald Collection containing many tracks from Danger Zone and Comin' Out Fighting. The second compilation album, which contained three songs from Bottom Line, three songs from Nature of Evil, four songs from Judgement Day, two from live recording and three new released songs, was called The Second Decade. The Second Decade became Sinner's best selling album, most of which were bought on Ebay. The Second Decade by Sinner until 2005 was the only album available for sale on Ebay and proved to be an international success. The Second Decade brought new fans to Europe primarily from Latin America, Japan, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Poland and Greece. The End of Sanctuary and There Will Be Execution are currently Sinner's only 21st century albums selling good and entered the German album charts. To date Sinner has released seventeen albums and sold over a million records worldwide.

In 2000 the band saw its first line-up change in five years as several members left, including guitarist Tom Naumann while ex-Helloween and Gamma Ray's Uli Kusch filled in on drums for The End of Sanctuary. This renewed vigour coupled with songwriting that far exceeded the band's previous releases not only carried on but strengthened with Respect in 1994 and Bottom Line in 1995, the latter staying in the Japanese national charts for five weeks. If you think of Mat Sinner, you will think of Primal Fear or Power Metal, but most would have been wrong about this album. For me a very nice melodic-rock-album, even though it went down with most of them. Anyway, I'm glad I have it. On the opener "When A Heart Breaks" it starts quite mysteriously like in a horror strip and then full of pounding guitars and a divine voice from Mat. Here one feels right how a heart can break. "Good Times" is typically rock like Mr. Big's "Green Tinted Sixties Mind" or David Lee Roth's "Lil'Ain't Enough" songs, grooved totally. With "Where Were You" quite different sounds come. Starting with a yearning chorus to powerful drumbeats, passionate guitars and the incomparable voice of Sinner's pleading chorus, a beautiful song. Followed by the ballad "Burning Heart", which pokes into a very dreamy zone. Partly with wailing weeping guitars. With "Boys In Trouble" it goes on harder again. The plucking guitars and pungent guitar riffs meander through the song, something weird is the chorus with the high background voices. Sounds like a shrieking woman. The first melodic song is "Save Me". Beautiful talking guitars, plucked with the voice of Mats and amplified with a little keyboard sound, a great song to cry. The second ballad "I'm Not Over You Yet" is even more melodic. Here you get really scared that something really can happen. A beautiful story that is hungry for salvation. This is perfectly shown here in collaboration with musical talent. "Thrill Of A Lifetime" is more of an outcry and goes off completely. Strange guitars clanking through Mats voice accompanied so far. "So Excitable" is a bit funky in the style of Steve Vai. Nevertheless a noteworthy song. The last ballad "Don't Wanna Lose You" is simply inspiring accompanied by a keyboard, acoustic guitar and backing vocals. Here, most women can always hold the handkerchiefs. Alone the Lyric makes you cry and if you understand the text and know that you can lose someone who is close, you're crying alone. The puffing song "Chasing My Dreams" is pure power. Pleasing guitars, fast beat paired with keyboard sounds sting the song. For me personally, this album has always been an enrichment and think everyone who likes sinner should have it too.

With nearly 30 years on stage and 17 albums on their account, the band still keeps serving their fans breathtaking music and stunning live performances. This exclusive reissue of one of Sinners best albums Judgement Day, brings the spotlight back on this true legendary Metal outfit. German metal titans Sinner regrouped in 1997 and delivered this strong release Judgement Day, with reknowned studio wiz Keith Olsen handling the mixing alonside the production of band leader, bassist, and singer Mat Sinner. The end result was another platter of extremely solid heavy metal, full of catchy tunes, bone crunching guitar, and plenty of fist banging arrangements. The line-up for this album was Sinner on bass & vocals, Tom Naumann on guitar, Frank Roessler on keyboards, Alex Beyrodt on guitar, and Fritz Randow on drums, and together they delivered another powerful metal statement. Kicks ass tunes such as "Used to the Truth", "White Lightning", the symphonic metal epic "Judgement Day", the pinch harmonic jacked "Jump the Gun", the progressive "Streets of Sin", and the absolute party metal anthem "School of Hard Knocks" are just a few of the memorable tracks on this sledgehammer album. Naumann & Beyrodt were a killer guitar team, churning out a non-stop barrage of super crunchy riffage and blazing leads at every juncture-just listen to their down & dirty power chords that permeate the nasty bonus track "Had Enough", an almost Thin Lizzy-ish piece littered with pinch harmonic squeals and tasty solos, Mat Sinner's thick bass work pumping alonside the riffs while his effective vocals delivered the metal message.Metal Mind's remaster job does this fine album justice, as the songs on Judgement Day sound powerful and crisp. The packaging is in their standard digipack, complete with a full color booklet and essay on the band. If you've never discovered this criminally overlooked German metal band, the recent reissues from Metal Mind of arguably the band's best material is the perfect way to dive in.

Mat Sinner (1987) - In 2000 the band saw its first line-up change in five years as several members left, including guitarist Tom Naumann while ex-Helloween and Gamma Ray's Uli Kusch filled in on drums for The End of Sanctuary.

Album:

Noise Records’ “Touch Of Sin” is considered by many as the most interesting and typical disc recorded, out of the early era of this band leaded by Mat Sinner (PRIMAL FEAR / VOODOO CIRCLE / ex-SHIVA), who is in his own way, one of the most iconic regarded figure in the Germanic Metal business panorama, as much as a musician, as a producer, as a Manager but also as an A&R for many artists and labels.“Touch Of Sin 2” is a compilation of re-recorded old SINNER songs, but the tracks “Don't Believe a Word”, “Blood On The Sand” and “Heat Of The City” are brand new titles, “Touch Of Sin” was originally recorded in 1985 with a short lived line up composed notably of ex-ACCEPT six strings gunslinger Herman Frank (VICTORY / MOON DOC / ex-ELOY) , this new revamped version starts with a wall of sound in the heavy riffage of “Born To Rock” one of the most familiar SINNER’s song as PRIMAL FEAR performed this track live , many times in the past, so the message is clear, this album starts in 'the pedal to the Metal' mode and with a firm intention of 'rocking our world big time' for a little more than 49 minutes. Some songs are taken from “Dangerous Charm” in 1987 as “Concrete Jungle” / ”Knife in My Heart ” or the title track from the ‘86 “Comin' Out Fighting ” along with the anthemic “Germany Rocks” (“…stamp your feet/bang your head…”) and “Lost in a Minute”, same for the ninth song “Danger Zone” out from the same eponymous vinyl platter in 1984, (then mastered with the famous Direct Metal Mastering … DMM : Did you remember?), that I always had a soft spot for.The track “Emerald” isn’t a THIN LIZZY's cover but “Don't Believe a Word” sure it is, even if it’s in a reworked version quite far from the style of the original song, however, the Phil Lynott’s influence is spread very much all over this album and strangely, I was surprised how SINNER's old songs and today’s SAXON are finally sounded quite similar, they are sharing some commune history and Germany’s is the second home for Biff & co, so perhaps, we could consider them, as cousin-German in Metal Family. The new songs are very much in the same style displayed all along this “Touch Of Sin 2”, and the same musical path which was walked by SINNER since the milestone “Mask Of Sanity”, which is confirmed by “Blood on the Sand” and “Heat of the City”, keeping a more nasty Rocking pace while leaving all the Heaviness and the wickedness flavors, once displayed in the amazing “The Nature Of Evil”, to the ‘side project’ fronted by Ralf Scheepers and called PRIMAL FEAR once and for all. The new line up built around a bunch of high-profile veterans in a perfectly effective shape, this is a full blown team that is backing Mat Sinner aka Mathias Lasch, with notably Andre Hilgers from RAGE and the devoted guitar players Alex Beyrodt (VOODOO CIRCLE / PRIMAL FEAR / ex-SIGNET / ex-SILENT FORCE) and Christof Leim (THE NEW BLACK) but also in order to complete the triple axe attack: the newbie Alex Scholpp (TARJA).This is not revolutionary by any way, but it’s a well-crafted and honest piece of melodic Heavy Metal with a strong dose of blood, sweat and beers Rocking attitude and maybe a new attempt to rehabilitate this unsung band of the 80s overshadowed by the more successful acts of that era such as THE SCORPIONS & ACCEPT or even BONFIRE…Not essential, but yet strongly enjoyable album to play on the your way back to home after an hard partying night spend in one of the numerous summer Metal-Fest.“It doesn't matter what you've done / In my words you are a sinner / For every word you say to me / In every way, you are a sinner” from “Burning Times” by ICED EARTH.

Album:

Even though band boss Mat Sinner is involved in many musical projects (just mentioning Primal Fear, the Rock Meets Classic project and Voodoo Circle, he always finds the time to also release albums with his band Sinner. In 2013, "Touch Of Sin 2", a collection of re-recorded Sinner classics from the 80s plus a few new songs, was following the 2011 album "One Bullet Left". Now it's time again for an all new songs Sinner studio album. "Tequila Suicide" was produced by Mat Sinner and Dennis Ward. Expect a full dose of tracks in typical Sinner style, with a few surprises added here and there, like the fine bluesy rock ballad "Sinner Blues". "Tequila Suicide" combines great songwriting with a mighty, organic sound. Numerous high class guest musicians (Gus G. of Ozzy Osbourne & Firewind, Ricky Warwick of The Almighty & Thin Lizzy and Pete Lincoln (Sailor, Sweet) were contributing to Sinner's newest piece of work. The German hard 'n' heavy legend is back!

After my discovery of Sinner thanks to 2013’s Touch Of Sin 2 record, I’ve counted them among bucket list live bands. That release featured re-records of classic Sinner material from the early days of the back catalog as those albums are long out of print. Oh yeah, for those unaware as I was until 2013, Sinner has been issuing albums since 1982! While not attaining mainstream success, especially over here in North America, Sinner can’t be stopped. They have consistently delivered new Hard Rock over a whopping 20 or so albums. And now their latest creation SINNER – Santa Muerte arrives September 13, 2019, via AFM Records. For this outing Sinner have enlisted some guests for the record. Swedish guitarist/co-songwriter Magnus Karlsson (Primal Fear, Allen/Lande) appears on “Death Letter”. Ronnie Romero (Ritchie Blackmore´s Rainbow, Lords Of Black) whose voice features on “Fiesta Y Copas”, the first single. Ricky Warwick‘s (The Almighty, Thin Lizzy, Black Star Riders) unique voice can be heard on “What Went Wrong”. But there’s yet another new voice as well. This one is a new, permanent addition to the Sinner camp in Giorgia Colleluori. After an invitation to join Sinner on stage for three songs during shows in a few countries, the audience’s reactions led Mat Sinner in asking her to join permanently.Sinner - Santa MuerteThings blast off with “Shine On”. At first, not reading the press release ahead of listening, the female vocals snapped me to attention. I wasn’t expecting that! Musically, the track is all the hard-rocking smash that I’ve come to expect from Sinner. The dulcet tones of Colleluori add a fantastic dimension and layer making this one of the best opening tracks I’ve heard in some time. The rest of the album rocks just as much. Take the lead single “Fiesta Y Copas” for example. You can check that song out via the video link below. Google translate reports that to mean “Party and Cups”, not sure of the accuracy there. Likewise googling “Santa Muerte” returns “Holy Death”. Right or wrong, it’s an epic song rocking for over six minutes. One thing Sinner does very, very well are the vocal harmonies. Now with Colleluori in the mix that’s really exemplified here on this album. The second single release, “Last Exit Hell” is a great example of soaring vocal harmonies over some grinding guitar riffs. Guest vocalist Ricky Warwick lends his talents on the naturally Thin Lizzy flavoured “What Went Wrong”.The album remains consistent throughout, but worth noting is “Death Letter”. A cover song originally by delta blues icon Son House, who recorded it in 1965. This song has also been recorded by The White Stripes and John Mellencamp among many others. The whole album is a hard rock feast littered with guitar riffs, pulsating bass lines, steadily thumping drum beats and the aforementioned vocal harmonies. While never selling tons of records, Sinner has consistently issued great hard rock albums over the years and this is another fine addition to the catalogue.

Album:

After the recent signing to Atomic Fire Records, German hard rock quartet Sinner has unveiled the artwork of forthcoming studio album "Brotherhood". Notes vocalist/bassist Mat Sinner about its title: "This band is held together by a tight friendship. Without this friendship, Sinner simply would not exist. We belong together and this album is meant to express that." Last but not least, a variety of special guests has expanded "Brotherhood" and contributed in different roles to this milestone in the band's eventful career: David Ingram, Erik Martensson, Giorgia Colleluori, Lisa Müller, Mark Basile, Neil Witchard, Oliver Palotai, Ralf Scheepers, Ronnie Romero, Sascha Krebs, Stef E & Tom S. Englund.Mat Sinner has been integrated into many bands and projects for decades. Mostly he is even the driving force, fueled by an unbridled passion for rock and metal. It all started in the ’80s when Sinner debuted with ‘Wild’n’Evil’. Slowly and steadily Mat Sinner and his band built up a solid base of fans and it was albums like ‘Touch of Sin’ and ‘Comin’ Out Fighting’ that made the band known beyond the borders of their home country.Even though many other projects took up space in his busy schedule, Mat Sinner was always able to find time for Sinner. With the previous album ‘Santa Muerte’ the band went on new paths. Female vocals and a strong Thin Lizzy influence characterized the album. The new album ‘Brotherhood’ is a step back to the roots without Sinner copying themselves. Metal is again more in the foreground and the songs on ‘Brotherhood’ sound more edgy and rough. It is the title track that creates immediate clarity here and what concerns the following ‘We Came to Rock’ it is evident that Sinner are back to more metal.Heavy, but slower is ‘Refuse to Surrender ‘. Here it is the driving rhythm and the powerful guitars that give the song its punch. Headbanging is the order of the day with such smashers as ‘The Rocker Rides Away’, while the slower and darker ‘The Last Generation’ shows the entire spectrum of Sinner in 2022.What also makes ‘Brotherhood’ a very interesting album is the list of guest vocalists Mat Sinner could win for the new record. Oliver Palotai, Ralf Scheepers, Ronnie Romero, Tom Englund and death metal icon Dave Ingram, they all contributed to the class of this album.‘Brotherhood’ is more than just a new album from Sinner. It is a statement that the flame is still alive, a musical plea for cohesion and mutual support. Very good.
