Bio:

Journey is an American rock band formed in San Francisco in 1973 by former members of Santana and Frumious Bandersnatch. The band has gone through several phases; its strongest commercial success occurred between 1978 and 1987, after which it temporarily disbanded. During that period, the band released a series of hit songs, including 1981's "Don't Stop Believin'", which in 2009 became the top-selling catalog track in iTunes history. Its parent studio album, Escape, the band's eighth and most successful, reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and yielded another of their most popular singles, "Open Arms". Its 1983 follow-up, Frontiers, was almost as successful in the United States, reaching No. 2 and spawning several successful singles; it broadened the band's appeal in the United Kingdom, where it reached No. 6 on the UK Albums Chart. Journey enjoyed a successful reunion in the mid-1990s, and later regrouped with a series of lead singers.Sales have resulted in two gold albums, eight multi-platinum albums, and one diamond album (including seven consecutive multi-platinum albums between 1978 and 1987). They have had eighteen Top 40 singles in the US (the second most without a Billboard Hot 100 number one single behind Electric Light Orchestra with 20) six of which reached the Top 10 of the US chart and two of which reached No. 1 on other Billboard charts, and a No. 6 hit on the UK Singles Chart in "Don't Stop Believin'". Originally a progressive rock band, Journey was described by Allmusic as having cemented a reputation as "one of America's most beloved (and sometimes hated) commercial rock/pop bands" by 1978, when they redefined their sound by embracing traditional pop arrangements on their fourth album, Infinity.According to the Recording Industry Association of America, Journey has sold 47 million albums in the US, making them the 28th best selling band. Their worldwide sales have reached over 75 million records, making them one of the world's best-selling bands of all time.A 2005 USA Today opinion poll named Journey the fifth best American rock band in history.Their songs have become arena rock staples and are still played on rock radio stations across the world.

Album:

Sony Music Japan has started a 2017 low-priced Blu-Spec CD2 reissue on some JOURNEY classic albums, all out of print on this high quality format. Strangely "Raised On Radio" is not included into the campaign, and some of you asked for this Blu-Spec CD2 / DSD remastering, as said, out of print now.Raised on Radio is the ninth studio album by the American rock band Journey, released in May 1986 on the Columbia Records label. It is the only album to feature bassists Randy Jackson and Bob Glaub and drummer Larrie Londin. The album spawned four top 40 singles in the US: "Girl Can't Help It" (No. 17), "Be Good to Yourself" (No. 9), "I'll Be Alright Without You" (No. 14), and "Suzanne" (No. 17).It went to No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart, and it was certified double platinum in the USA.Journey's ninth new studio album "Raised On Radio" found the group reduced to a trio of guitarist Neal Schon, singer Steve Perry, and keyboard player Jonathan Cain. They lost their regular rhythm section, but to be honest, Journey only needed these 3 members who provided the songwriting, arrangements, and in short, the band's appeal.According to times (released in the mid '80s") "Raised On Radio" has a glossy production and a melodic, accessible radio friendly approach like never before.Schon's guitar still cut through the fat keyboard chords, and Perry's fluid tenor still gave the songs an airy, melodic charm. All of that was good for sales of two million copies and five chart singles, four of which made the Top 40 and one of which, "Be Good to Yourself," reached the Top 10.That didn't match the seven-million-selling number 1 Escape, but it confirmed that Journey's music had a large audience right to the (temporary) end of its career. This Japanese Blu-Spec CD2 / DSD remastering sound million bucks, including as bonus tracks the 'Video Mix' of 'Girl Can't Help It' and 'I'll Be Alright Without You', which if you ask me, especially the former, are better than the originals. It was a mini-LP / carboard sleeve edition replicating the original LP artwork. The more, pure US AOR album from Journey, "Raised On Radio" is ESSENTIAL in your collection.

Album:

High quality Blu-Spec CD2 disc, this Japanese remastered reissue of JOURNEY's "Trial By Fire" is a must have.If Journey‘s short-lived ’90s reunion sounded like a return to form, that was because the work – a lot of it – had finally paid off. New producer Kevin Shirley (Mr. Big, Aerosmith) put the freshly reformed early '80s lineup of Neal Schon, Steve Perry, Jonathan Cain, Ross Valory and Steve Smith through a rigorous wood-shedding period in the run up to "Trial by Fire".By the time the album arrived in October 1996, Journey was working at a peak pace, able to put down nearly complete song takes live in the studio.“The real challenge was, I don’t think any of us were used to rehearsing as much as we did,” Schon said about the recording. “But it turned out to be a good thing. We rehearsed for a good six weeks. That’s a long time. We basically rehearsed everything like we were going to play a brand-new record live, with no overdubs.”In this way, Trial by Fire wasn’t just an attempt to recreate the sound this same fivesome once had on 1981’s Escape and 1983’s Frontiers, but to actually become the band they used to be – interacting live in the studio, trying as best they could to create first-take magic.“There’s something to be said about that,” Schon adds. “When you have the time to get everybody together like that and rehearse, you get very comfortable with the material, the arrangements.”Shirley has said he wanted to hone Journey back into the well-oiled machine of their original era – when songs were often polished by the biggest groups out on the road, then arrived on albums fully formed.“There are some magical elements that happen with the natural feel of a band,” Shirley told the Observer in 2016. “When you start to bring computers into the equation and are cutting things up all night and quantizing things, they can get very generic.”The finished project blended every element of Journey’s former chart-dominating formula, making room for arena rockers like “Castles Burning,” throwback mid-tempo fare including “Message of Love” and more emotional moments like “Still She Cries.”They also pushed themselves, showcasing newfound musical complexity on songs like “Forever in Blue” (one of my favorites) and adding a soaring orchestra to “When You Love a Woman”, which reached #12 on the Billboard Hot 100, and #1 at the Adult Contemporary charts.Fans responded, helping "Trial By Fire" reach the #3 on the Billboard album chart, and Journey got a million-selling album for the first time in a decade.I laugh out loud when I hear / read that "Trial By Fire" was a cash-only return from Journey infesting the record with pop ballads. Poor deaf people, or, simply, they don't like AOR."Trial By Fire" is, easily, the best AOR record appeared in 1996, a year when nobody - even less major acts - dare to release an album like this. It's the more elaborated and mature Journey album ever, and it's the last to feature the one and only Steve Perry.Enough reasons to treasure this gem in your collection.

Album:

After the recent JOURNEY posts here one of you asked as well for "Departure", in its Japanese Deluxe Paper Sleeve Mini Vinyl LP Replica package and pressed on a high quality Blu-Spec CD2 disc. It uses the last DSD remastering and on this CD format it truly sounds fabulous. The first Journey album in the '80s, "Departure" arrived at a crucial moment during the band's transition from jam-friendly progressive rock to an arena-ready mainstream AOR sound, and found the band continuing to streamline its songwriting in an increasingly successful quest to invade Top 40 radio.True to its title, the album served notice that the group was closing a chapter in its history by embracing a new direction while letting go of some formerly ingredients.“We named it that because there’s going to be a little bit of a musical change,” singer Steve Perry teased in a spring 1980 interview. “We’re departing from some of our roots and keeping some.”Despite many people think the new 'commercial' approach wanted for "Departure" came from Steve Perry, in fact it was guitarist Neal Schon & Columbia Records whom aimed for a more rocking, melodic, intense sound.Part of that intensity derived from a switch in producers. Having openly groused about working with Roy Thomas Baker, the band hired Kevin Elson to co-produce alongside engineer Geoff Workman, adopting a live-in-the-studio approach to tracking "Departure" which provided much more muscle to the music. It all added up to an album that, while perhaps somewhat edgier sonically than the previous, was still eminently radio-friendly."Departure" climbed to No. 8 on the album chart and summed up the Journey of 1980’s Top 40 appeal with its lead-off track and first single 'Any Way You Want It', one of my favorite Journey songs ever. There's the slightly bluesy, catchy 'Walk Like A Lady' (which also did great on the charts), 'Where Were You' has an terrific melodic chorus, 'I'm Cryin' contains some of the most amazingly emotive Perry vocals ever, and 'Line Of Fire' absolutely smokes.Another favorite of mine is 'People and Places'. I don't know what it is about that song, but with the way the different members each sing a word one after the other combined with the haunting (in spots) sound of the keyboard, this one still can send shivers up my spine. Very unique track."Departure" also would mark the last full-time studio album appearance of founding member Gregg Rolie, and his penultimate recording with the band - his final contributions would appear on Dream, After Dream, a soundtrack album to the Japanese film of the same name, from which 'Little Girl' is added here as bonus track.Rolie had become tired of life on the road and decided to leave the band after assisting in the selection of his replacement, talented Jonathan Cain, then of The Babys. Rolie sang lead vocals on only one song on "Departure", the blissful, melodic midtempo ballad 'Someday Soon'."Departure" is one of Journey's strongest albums, very well written & arranged, melodic and rocking at the same time. It went triple-platinum and Journey rode this success with a major tour. These gigs spawned the follow-up live album Captured, which was another major hot seller for the group in the '80s.This remaster pressed on BSCD2 is fantastic, I can hear more bass presence and an overall 'studio ambiance'. Additionally you got 2 bonus tracks.A must for Journey fans and highly recommended to all Melodic Rock / AOR enthusiasts.

Line-Up:

Steve Perry - lead vocals
Neal Schon - guitars, vocals

Album:

Escape (stylized as E5C4P3 on the album cover) is the seventh studio album by American rock band Journey, released on July 31, 1981. It topped the American Billboard 200 chart and features four hit Billboard Hot 100 singles – "Don't Stop Believin'" (#9), "Who's Crying Now" (#4), "Still They Ride" (#19) and "Open Arms" (#2) – plus rock radio staple "Stone in Love." It was certified 9x platinum by the RIAA and sold over twelve million copies worldwide, making it the band's most successful studio album and second most successful album overall behind Greatest Hits.Escape was the band's first album with keyboardist Jonathan Cain who replaced founding keyboardist Gregg Rolie after he left the band at the end of 1980. The album was co-produced by former Lynyrd Skynyrd sound technician Kevin Elson and one-time Queen engineer Mike Stone, who also engineered the album.Mike DeGagne of AllMusic retrospectively awarded Escape four-and-a-half stars out of five, writing, "The songs are timeless, and as a whole, they have a way of rekindling the innocence of youthful romance and the rebelliousness of growing up, built from heartfelt songwriting and sturdy musicianship".Colin Larkin awarded the album four out of five stars in the 2002 edition of the Virgin Encyclopedia of Popular Music.Contemporary Rolling Stone reviews were less favourable. The first review of 1981 by Deborah Frost marked Journey as heavy metal posers and the music in the album as easily playable by any session musician. In the 2004 edition of their album guide, Rolling Stone awarded the album two-and-a-half stars out of five, which was nonetheless an improvement from Dave Marsh's one star rating in the 1983 edition of the publication. The same critic years later wrote that "Journey, originally a progressive rock band, experienced strong resentment from many music critics after they embraced the pop sensibilities of the 1980s with smash hits like "Don't Stop Believin'" and "Open Arms".In 1988, Kerrang! readers voted Escape the greatest AOR album of all time. The following year, the magazine ranked Escape #32 in "The 100 Greatest Heavy Metal Albums of All Time".A 2000 Virgin poll saw the album voted the 24th greatest heavy metal/alternative rock album of all time.In 2001, Classic Rock ranked the album #22 in "The 100 Greatest Rock Albums of All Time".In 2006, the same publication recognized the importance of the album's contribution to popular music in the 1980s by including it in their "The 200 Greatest Albums of the 80s" as one of the twenty greatest albums of 1981.Q magazine ranked Escape 15th in its "Records it's OK to Love" in 2006.An Atari 2600 game based on the album, Journey Escape, was released in 1982.

Album:

Frontiers is the eighth studio album by the American Rock band Journey, released in February 1983 on the Columbia Records label. This is the last album to feature bassist Ross Valory until 1996's Trial by Fire. The album reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and would garner four top 40 singles: "After the Fall" (No. 23), "Send Her My Love" (No. 23), "Faithfully" (No. 12), and "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" (No. 8),and a rock radio hit in "Chain Reaction". The album would later achieve the RIAA certification of six times platinum. The album had been sequenced and prepped for pressing when, in a last minute conference with Journey's A&R man Michael Dillbeck, two songs were pulled from the original lineup, "Ask the Lonely" and "Only the Young". These two tracks were replaced with "Back Talk" and "Troubled Child". "Ask the Lonely" was utilized in the soundtrack for the film Two of a Kind. "Only the Young" would find its way into the Top Ten two years later, joining the soundtrack of the movie Vision Quest.Frontiers was the band's highest-charting album in the United Kingdom, reaching No. 6 on the UK Albums Chart in 1983.From an exclusive interview via E-Mail with Jim Welch by Scott Sullivan of the Journey WWW Page:Frontiers was a subtle shift. Mouse and Kelley were not involved with that cover. My vision for Frontiers was based on "tunnels" and the relativity of time and motion. Light stays the same, but time bends. It was Einstein theories for artist interpretation. The alien in Frontiers wasn't really an alien at all, he was a connection to a higher level of listening to Journey. In 2005, Frontiers was ranked number 363 in Rock Hard magazine's book of The 500 Greatest Rock & Metal Albums of All Time.

Album:

Now this is one to treasure; Leftfield Media has just released "JOURNEY - The Frontiers Tour" on CD, a concert recorded during the presentation of Steve Perry & Co. most successful album, at the peak of their craft. This is Journey at the top of their game, featuring 19 songs of which 13 come from 1981's Escape disc and its follow up '83s Frontiers. The triple opening with "Chain Reaction", "Wheel In The Sky" and "Line Of Fire' is simply outstanding, then we have an emotive take on "Send Her My Love", a rocking "Rubicon" and the superb "Lights".This is taken from a live FM broadcast, but the sound is great and raw, with no overdubs and a 'real' live feel."The Frontiers Tour" remains the highest grossing of any rock tour performed on American soil to date. It's not only essential for fans of the band, but for any AOR aficionado.

Line-Up:

Steve Perry - lead vocals

Album:

JOURNEY returned to Japan two years ago for a very special concert at Budokan. This performance captures the iconic band recreating their legendary albums 'Escape' and 'Frontiers', in an explosive performance."Escape & Frontiers Live in Japan [2 CD]" is the audio CD version of the release, also available on DVD and Blu-ray.Recorded during the second night at the Budokan, JOURNEY presented songs from 1981's "Escape" and 1983's "Frontiers". These albums, which produced eight Top 40 singles combined, have sold nearly 20 million copies worldwide, and cemented the San Francisco band's music in the cultural zeitgeist.Starting off the two-hour set with "Don't Stop Believin''', JOURNEY kicks into high gear, presenting a set not just of its hits, but deep album cuts like "Escape"'s "Lay It Down" and "Frontiers"' "Back Talk", which haven't been played live since the albums' original touring cycles. Both "Escape" and "Frontiers" are performed in its original song order / track list. The musicianship of Neal Schon (founder / guitarist), Jonathan Cain (keyboardist), Ross Valory (bassist), Steve Smith (drummer) and Arnel Pineda (lead vocals) is in top form here, and shine on famed hits like "Open Arms", "Who's Crying Now", "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" and "Faithfully".After the close of their performance of 'Frontiers', Journey returns to the stage to perform two blistering extended encores of "La Raza del Sol" and "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin".Performed and recorded on occasion of the 35th birthday of 'Escape', JOURNEY delivers here a superb show. playing both classic albums in its entirety plus a couple of extras. As said, all involved are in top form, singer Arnel Pinedad sounds every day more 'Steve Perry than Perry itself', and production / sound quality is great.

Line-Up:

Album:

This past February, founding JOURNEY guitarist Neal Schon shared the definitive track list of “Freedom”, the upcoming new album (July) from the band in more than a decade.Following the band’s acrimonious split with drummer Steve Smith and bassist Ross Valory back in 2020, the current line up of the band includes Schon, Jonathan Cain, Arnel Pineda, and new recruits legendary drummer / producer Narada Michael Walden, keyboardist/backing singer Jason Derlatka, and also legendary bassist Randy Jackson.“Freedom” will include the song “The Way We Used To Be“, the multi-platinum band’s first new music since 2011’s album Eclipse, and the first track released by the band’s revamped lineup. “The Way We Used To Be” marked Walden and Derlatka’s first studio recordings with the band, and Jackson’s first since 1986’s “Raised On Radio”.Meanwhile, other songs from the album surfaced…Released few days ago as single, “Don’t Give Up on Us” is just another great track form the new album, a tune reminiscent of their 1981-1983 era.For longtime fans of the band, “You Got the Best of Me” should feel like a natural addition to the catalog. Opening with Jonathan Cain’s synthy keyboards, the track is eventually fleshed out with a catchy drum beat from Narada Michael Walden and some meaty guitar work from Neal Schon, all accentuated by Arnel Pineda’s soaring vocal leading to a triumphant and uplifting Journey song. The track also includes bass work from Randy Jackson holding things down, while Cain’s piano pieces standout as the song kicks in.“Let It Rain” is the third song unveiled from ”Freedom”, a guitar driven rocker. Stylistically, the songs released thus far have been noticeably different, which aligns with what keyboardist Jonathan Cain said about the new album: “We have all the elements. Some of it’s really raw and really rock ‘n’ roll, and I think we have the classic ballads. We really tried to stay true to what we do best, and that’s just write good songs.”Journey music is timeless, and their signature song ‘Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)’ will be featured on the soundtrack of the fourth season of TV series ‘Stranger Things’, but the classic track sound a bit different…very different indeed. To match the vibe of the horror show, the track got the remix treatment, resulting in a creepy version and it’ll likely send a chill up your spine.

Line-Up:

Arnel Pineda - lead vocals
Neal Schon - guitars, vocals
Randy Jackson - bass
Jonathan Cain - keyboards, backing vocals
Jason Derlatka - keyboards, backing vocals
Narada Michael Walden - drums

Tracklist:

01. Don’t Give Up On Us
02. You Got The Best Of Me
03. The Way We Used To Be
04. Let It Rain
05. Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) [Stranger Things soundtrack remix]

Album:

As one of the world’s most beloved rock bands, Journey continues to create new music and thrill audiences night after night in sold-out arenas worldwide in conjunction with AEG as their promoter. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018, Journey has 25 gold and platinum albums, including the fifteen-million selling "Greatest Hits" collection, with total sales adding up to 80 million records around the world.Emerging from the pandemic with a supercharged new studio line-up, today the members of Journey unleash the first single “You Got The Best Of Me” off their forthcoming studio album "Freedom" - due out July 8 via Frontiers Music Srl. “You Got The Best Of Me” will be followed this summer by an epic, fifteen-track set of new original songs that brings back the grand scale of the band’s greatest moments, along with updated and bold new directions and sounds."I wanted kind of a punky rendition of Any Way You Want It", says the band’s founding member, guitarist, songwriter and producer Neal Schon about the single. “I usually don't go in saying I'm going to look for something like that, but then it just came to me, like Wheel In The Sky did years ago. It just kind of flew out of my mouth.”While the forthcoming album was made with visions of arena and stadium stages, it started from humble beginnings. In 2020, as COVID swept the globe, Schon was stuck at home like the rest of us. “During the pandemic, there wasn’t much to do”, he says. “I spent a lot of time in my little studio at home, learning how to play keyboards and looping. Some of those ideas ended up being songs. So it kind of came out of nowhere.”As the band’s legend continues to grow larger and the touring gets bigger, "Freedom" will be the first album of new material to be released in eleven years, since 2011’s "Eclipse", and in addition to longtime keyboard player and primary lyricist Jonathan Cain and vocalist Arnel Pineda, one more member was recruited for the upcoming album: bassist extraordinaire Randy Jackson, who had played on Journey’s 1986 album "Raised On Radio"."Freedom" will be released by Frontiers Records in Europe, United Kingdom and Japan. BMG will release the album for the rest of the world.

Album:

Frontiers Music will release JOURNEY‘s incredible Lollapalooza performance from Chicago, IL, which took place on July 31, 2021, “Live in Concert at Lollapalooza” on December 9, 2022. The stunning set, which will be released on CD/DVD, Blu-ray, and Vinyl, serves as a testament not only to the band’s enduring legacy, but their relevance to a whole new generation of rock ‘n roll fans.Journey’s Lollapalooza performance blended fresh and familiar, ith the band’s current lineup delivering a hit-packed package during their headlining slot. Journey are veteran professionals when it comes to throwing entertaining concerts, and the fans upfront knew that from experience. But for the young festival goers and indifferent onlookers who expected a weathered band of baby boomers to twiddle their thumbs for an hour before breaking out jukebox staples, they got to experience arguably the most underrated feeling a music festival can offer: discovering a different side to an artist’s discography that you overlooked up until then.Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018, Journey have 25 gold and platinum albums, including the fifteen-million selling Greatest Hits collection, with total sales adding up to 80 million records around the world. As the band’s legend continues to grow larger and their touring gets bigger, they recently released a new studio album, “Freedom” in July 2022. It was their first album of new material to be released in eleven years, since 2011’s “Eclipse”. The album was met with rave critical and fan reviews and charted in multiple countries around the globe.

Album:

Greatest Hits I & II is a repackaging of both of Journey’s Greatest Hits albums.Originally released in 1988 / 2011, it was reissued in Japan in both 2013 and 2017 with different cover art.

Greatest Hits 1 - is a compilation album by the American rock band Journey, originally released in 1988 by Columbia Records. It is the band's best-selling career disc, spending 789 weeks on the Billboard 200 albums chart (more than any other compilation album, except for Bob Marley and the Wailers' Legend, in history).Additionally, as of January 2024, it has logged 1,425 weeks on Billboard's Catalog Albums chart. On 26 January 2024, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified Greatest Hits 18× Platinum for sales of 18 million copies in the United States. As of January 2024, it was reported to have been the third highest certified 'greatest hits' package in the United States according to the RIAA, behind only similar collections by the Eagles and Billy Joel compilations. It continues to be one of the most popular 'best of' packages, at times selling close to 500,000 copies globally per year. The album has been reissued several times and was digitally remastered for compact disc by Legacy Recordings, issued on August 1, 2006, with "When You Love a Woman" featured as a bonus track. In Japan, the album has been reissued as Open Arms: Greatest Hits with the song "Open Arms" appearing as the first song on the album. A second Journey compilation album, Greatest Hits 2, was released in 2011.

Greatest Hits 2 - is a greatest hits album by American rock band Journey. The album was released on November 1, 2011 by Columbia Records. The compilation album is the band's second greatest hits package. It was released 23 years after the first greatest hits package in 1988. The album includes the remaining radio hits that were left off the first greatest hits package and fan favorites. This includes "Stone in Love", "Feeling That Way", "Anytime", "Just the Same Way", "Still They Ride", "Suzanne", "Walks Like a Lady", "The Party's Over" and "After the Fall".Greatest Hits 2 was released on CD, digital download and in a gatefold double-vinyl edition. The songs were re-mastered to vinyl by Robert Hadley and former lead singer of Journey, Steve Perry. Perry said of the mastering: "I truly forgot how sonically exciting and just plain better these Journey tracks sound back where they originally lived...on vinyl. The stereo separation, the center imaging and the sonic depth of the tracks themselves is more true to what we all loved about these original final mixes. All the instruments and voices, to me personally, sound so damn good that all I want to do is reach for the volume and turn it up!".The album was supposed to include "The Eyes of a Woman" but by request by lead guitarist Neal Schon, it was replaced by "Little Girl".Neal Schon's father, jazz musician Matthew Schon worked with the band on "Little Girl".
