Info:

Fastway is a British rock band formed by guitarist "Fast" Eddie Clarke, formerly of Motörhead, and bassist Pete Way, formerly of UFO.In 1983, both players had been disgruntled with their own bands and decided to work together in a new outfit. They recruited drummer Jerry Shirley, formerly of Humble Pie, and the then-unknown vocalist Dave King. They took their name from a combination of the founding members' names. However, Way then discovered that he could not escape from his recording contract with Chrysalis Records, and then received a tempting offer to play for Ozzy Osbourne, so he abandoned the project without ever playing on a single record. Bringing in session bassist Mick Feat, the band then recorded their debut album, Fastway (Feat was uncredited on the album). After critical and commercial success, the band toured to promote the album (with one-time Fixx bassist Alfie Agius[1] as their session bass player). The band then recruited Charlie McCracken, formerly of Taste, as "permanent" bassist, and released another success in the form of All Fired Up the following year. After the hardships of touring, Shirley and McCracken subsequently left.In 1986, Clarke and King reformed Fastway with a new line-up. Recruiting Shane Carroll (second guitar), Paul Reid (bass), and Alan Connor (drums) from Dave King's first band, Stillwood, this line-up released Waiting for the Roar. The record took an album-oriented rock approach instead of the driving bluesy-metal of the previous albums. The success of the record was limited, and it disappointed many fans. The same year, Fastway was approached to make the soundtrack for the heavy metal horror film, Trick or Treat. The film flopped, but the soundtrack re-established Fastway as a hard-hitting metal band. The soundtrack was a moderate success, and stayed on the Billboard Top 200 chart for eleven months. The success of the soundtrack, combined with the very little money the band received, caused in-fighting, and the group disbanded. King took most of the band with him and started Q.E.D., a more AOR styled outfit. They released a two-track single.King then got a call from David Geffen and John Kalodner to come to the United States to head up a heavy metal "supergroup" called Katmandu. Katmandu also featured Mandy Meyer from Krokus on guitars. The band was rounded out by Caine Carruthers of the soul band The Untouchables, and Mike Alonso of the Detroit rock band The Meanies. Katmandu released one self-titled album and had a couple of minor hits. Dave King would go on to form and front the widely successful Los Angeles-based Celtic punk band Flogging Molly, where he continues to this day.Meanwhile, Clarke decided to restart Fastway again from scratch in 1988 using vocalist Lea Hart and session men, quickly releasing On Target in the same year, but it sold poorly. In 1990, this duo of Clarke and Hart released Bad Bad Girls, employing various session musicians including members of Girlschool. It was widely ignored and sold poorly. After calling it a day in 1991, they released a perfunctory live album Say What You Will LIVE (an older recording, curiously with King on vocals). In 1997, Clarke and Hart reunited and released a reworked version of On Target, but there was no commercial success. On 25 May 2007, Toby Jepson, former lead singer with Little Angels, announced he had accepted an approach from Fastway to perform lead vocal duties during the year's festival appearances. An updated line-up played Sweden Rock Festival, Japanese Hard Rock Hell, and the Download Festival at Castle Donington. Besides guitarist Clarke and Jepson, the new band featured drummer Steve Strange (not to be confused with Visage singer Steve Strange) and John McManus (Mama's Boys). In an interview with Komodo Rock at the Hard Rock Hell Festival in November 2007, Eddie Clark confirmed that he and Toby Jepson would be working on new material. He said "Toby and I are going to sit down and maybe do a few tunes over the winter. See if we can write some tunes."[2] As of 2008, Toby Jepson announced he would go on to front Scottish hard rockers Gun full-time.In late 2010, "Fast" Eddie Clarke returned to the recording studio to record a new album with Toby Jepson, titled Eat Dog Eat. The album was released on 14 November 2011, by SPV/Steamhammer, and it is the first album of entirely new material from Fastway in over twenty years.

Album:

Perhaps one of the most overlooked albums in Hard Rock history, FASTWAY's self-titled debut is now digitally remastered & expanded deluxe edition by Rock Candy Records.Featuring no less than 7 bonus tracks including hard to find B-sides and BBC sessions, these additional songs never appeared on CD before.UK's Fastway was originally formed by "Fast" Eddie Clarke and former UFO bassist Pete Way. Men out on the hunt looking to start a new and improved musical unit that would fuse traditional British Hard Rock with the energy and enthusiasm of the NWOBHM.Sadly Pete Way’s tenure was short-lived leaving Fast Eddie to write and record the album with session bassist Mickey Feat, drummer Jerry Shirley (from Humble Pie) and - then unknown - Irish vocalist David King.Issued in 1983 and produced by veteran studio wizard Eddie Kramer (Zeppelin, Hendrix, Kiss) "Fastway" cut an impressive form in a world obsessed with glam rock and thrash metal.Embracing traditional values and emitting a sense of rough-hewn charm, Fastway’s music was big on riffs with clever use of melody and songs that packed a punch. In America the record found an enthusiastic home, helping to propel it into the Billboard top 30 charts attaining gold status.Opener ‘Easy Livin’ is an uptempo rocker boogie-tinged number with screaming guitars and outstanding vocals from Dave King (often sounding like Robert Plant), one of the best songs from the early '80s in this vein.‘Feel Me Touch Me’ is more a 70s number driven by a monster riff, ‘All I Need Is Your Love’ has a killer groove, and ‘Another Day’ has more acoustic intro before building, and a hint of Zepplin-esque melodies. The Eddie Kramer production adds to the classic sound as well as the all star cast. This Rock Candy treatment on "Fastway" easily is one of the best remastering jobs the have done.Everything sounds clear and punchier with a fantastic dynamic range. And we have 7 awesome bonus tracks; the very hard to find B-sides 'Crazy Dream', 'Back In The Game' & 'Far Far From Home' - all which quality deserved to be in the main album - plus the terrific BBC Session at the Friday Rock Show taped 15/4/83.

Album:

This was requested by one of you; the return of FASTWAY after 21 years outta the scene with "Eat Dog Eat", and this US Edition including a bonus track. Darn, listening to this baby again I almost forgot how good slice of hot classic hard rock it is.Formed back in 1983 by Fast Eddie Clarke (ex Motörhead) and Pete Way (UFO), after enjoying success with albums like 'Fastway', 'All Fired Up' and 'Waiting For The Roar', the band ground to a halt in 1991."Eat Dog Eat" marks their first new studio album since 1990 and featured the remodeled line-up of Fast Eddie Clarke, drummer Matt Eldridge and former Little Angels & Gun frontman Toby Jepson.Jepson has always been a superb musician and with Fast Eddie in inspired songwriting form, this is an impressive comeback that will be lapped up by old-timers and should win them plenty of new admirers along the way.Fastway's current incarnation takes helpings of classic hard rock beasts from the '70s, a hint of '80s Whitesnake, maybe even a little of Thunder's spice, and serves it up with a healthy slice of Little Angels, all of this should be enough to satisfy the appetite of many rocking souls.Hitting their stride immediately with the midtempo bluesy rocker "Deliver Me" it is clear this new incarnation of the band for the new Century is extremely slick, streamlined and bursting with confidence. There's passionate vocals by Toby Jepson and a smokin' guitar solo."Leave The Light On" has a memorable swagger that was a trademark of Fastway's first era when they had considerable success with both the eponymous debut and 'All Fired Up'. Eddie delivers a sharp solo."Loving Fool" is a great rocker with a catchy chorus and some 'fast' brilliant guitar lines, while "Dead And Gone" is a huge track featuring a heavy bluesier sound, rumbling bass lines and a great live feeling.Fastway never was a fashion band. They were playing old-fashioned pure hard rock with attitude. Even back in his Motörhead days Clarke could always come up with a great melody as on the rousing "Who Do You Believe?".The slinky opening riff of "Sick As A Dog" sounds like it could have graced the band's first albums, while a title such as "Love I Need" may suggest a ballad but the insistent, grinding riff plus Jepson's call-and-response delivery equals another moody blues rocker with Clarke again serving up a tasty solo. One of the better songs on the album."On And On" ends the regular tracklist with some powerhouse drumming from the energetic Eldridge and more blistering guitar work, and this US version of the album includes the bonus track "Only If You Want It", a groovy yet melodic hard rocker with an '80s feel recalling Y&T best era.Fast Eddie Clarke returned with a vengeance; Fastway's "Eat Dog Eat" really takes us back to the classic, basic hard rock, resting on the traditional British bluesy foundation.Clarke is in top form delivering razor riffs and melting solos, and he's lost none of his six string prowess. Jepson proves himself as a great musician for this style with his smoky, melodious tones perfectly suiting this collection of immaculately crafted rockers. Jepson also handled the excellent production sound, walking just the right line between gutsy & raw / clear & polished, and the songs themselves hit the spot with unrelenting accuracy."Eat Dog Eat" is a very, very consistent collection of top class, blues-infused hard rock. If you love the traditional, classic sound of the genre, there's no doubt that you will enjoy this album with a big smile in your face.

Line-Up:

Eddie 'Fast' Clarke - Guitars
Toby Jepson - Vocals, Bass, Acoustic Guitar
Matt Eldridge - Drums, Percussion

Tracklist:

01. Deliver Me
02. Fade Out
03. Leave the Light On
04. Loving Food
05. Dead and Gone
06. Sick As a Dog
07. Freedom Song
08. Do You Believe
09. Love I Need
10. On and On
11. Only If You Want It (Bonus Track)

Album:

"Waiting For The Roar", the band's third effort Digitally Remastered by BGO Records.According to times (mid-80s), Fastway's management, the record label and band leader Fast Eddie Clark's decided to drastically change the style for this 3rd album in favor to a more keyboard-driven American AOR sound. Produced with a lush, polished technique by Terry Manning (Outside Edge, Zeno) who also performed all the bucketload of synthesizers, several tracks were tailor made for FM radio in 1985. Just check out the keyboard stabs and sing-along chorus of 'Tired Of Your Love', the killer midtempo 'The World Waits For You' or the Foreigner-like ballad 'Change'. This is great '80s AOR of the finest order.Title track has everything that’s to be expected from the band - a killer riff, a pounding beat (and synth), Dave King singing his socks off, a fabulous chorus and it results in an undoubtedly all round top tune. On the other hand, 'Little By Little' is probably the closest to their original sound as the guitars are more out front and the vocals wail. 'Rock On' also rocks a bit harder sounding like some of the more radio friendly hard rock bands of the mid-80s. Then 'Girl' is a fantastic combination of guitar and synth, with some great breaks and chord changes. This BGO digital remastered sound of "Waiting For The Roar" is very, very good, avoiding brickwall saturation. And, especially, it features the original LP release song length that strangely were edited for the original CD press. So, here you have the 'real' "Waiting For The Roar", with a blissful pristine and potent remastered sound plus a bonus track from the same studio sessions (7'' single B-side 'Doin' Just Fine').Often ignored by fans of the genre, Fastway's "Waiting For The Roar" is a keeper for all classic '80s AOR aficionados.

Line-Up:

Dave King - lead vocals
'Fast' Eddie Clarke - guitars
Shane Carroll - rhythm guitar
Paul Reid - bass
Alan Connor - drums

additional musicians:

Terry Manning - synthesizers, backing vocals
Carl Marsh - Fairlight programming and orchestration
London Studio Orchestra
Chris Thompson - additional backing vocals

Tracklist:

01 - The World Waits For You
02 - Kill Me With Your Heart
03 - Tired Of Your Love
04 - Change
05 - Move Over
06 - Little By Little
07 - Rock On
08 - Waiting For The Roar
09 - Girl
10 - Back Door Man
11 - Doin' Just Fine (Bonus Track)

Album:

For many even better than their great debut record, FASTWAY‘s second effort “All Fired Up” has recently been remastered by Rock Candy Records. And this is the kind of albums that really needed a proper ‘Remastered & Reloaded’ treatment, as the original CD press resulted awful flat. The vinyl LP always sounded great but the early ’80s transfers to CD were ‘cold’ and lifeless.Just wait to hear this vital remastering, with all instruments / vocals coming out clear and huge. After left Motorhead in 1982, guitarist ‘Fast’ Eddie Clarke started conversations with longtime UFO bassist Pete Way to form a new group, but he dropped out of the picture almost immediately to join Ozzy Osbourne’s band, leaving Clarke to carry the load himself. But carry the load he did, churning out an impressive array of heavy rockers with the help of erstwhile Humble Pie drummer Jerry Shirley ex-Taste bassist Charlie McCracken and, sparkling new discovery, Irish vocalist Dave King. For Fastway, Clarke and his band immersed themselves in blues rock but with a contemporary edge. It was a sound that won much respect and fitted in nicely with the emerging commercial interest in hard rock, which self-titled debut LP actually ventured into the charts on both sides of the Atlantic, certified gold in the USA.Continuing their progress they recorded second album ‘All Fired Up’ in 1984, a LP that stylistically mirrored the band’s debut and was produced once again by industry legend Eddie Kramer (Kiss, Hendrix, Humble Pie) who had so successfully guided the previous. With a more commercial and sheen production according to 1984, “All Fired Up” saw Fastway delivering a beyond-solid slate of tough-but-accessible hard rockers, among which the memorable title track, “Misunderstood” and a slow-burning blues beast named “Hurtin’ Me” channeled the spirit of Led Zeppelin for the ‘80s.There’s a catchy riff driving the infectious “Hung Up on Love”, easy rockers with radio potential such as ‘Steal the Show’ or ‘Non-Stop Love’, and a top class ballad in “If You Could See”.Another highlight, ‘Tell Me,’ seemed even more guaranteed to hit with its passing resemblance to first album standout, ‘Say What You Will’ (both were built around ‘Fast’ Eddie’s deft fretboard fingerwork), but, inexplicably, it did not, joining the remainder of ‘All Fired Up’ in falling short of commercial expectations. And yet, although Fastway’s career prospects would carry on sinking, steadily lower and lower from this point forward, ‘All Fired Up’ remains a staunch favorite of ‘80s heavy rock enthusiasts, for obvious reasons. While Fastway’s debut is darn great slice of ’80s hard rock and their most successful LP, I seem to be in a minority group that actually prefers this second album.Songwriting wise and musically both are at the same (high) level, however I like “All Fired Up” production better, with more emphasis in the melody / polish somehow akin – to my ears – Survivor’s sound of the era.As we would expect, the Rock Candy techs have showcased their remastering mastery (and indeed, mystery) on this reissue, and while the BGO Records 90s-style remastered version from almost two decades ago is nice, this 2019 release is awesome.

Bio:

Album:

“Sammi Curr is a Rock ‘N’ Roll nightmare. His fans wont let him die. He wont let them live…” Do you remember that line from 1986’s horror flick ‘Trick Or Treat’? Fun stuff with a couple of cameos from Gene Simmons and Ozzy Osbourne.Campy nostalgia aside, one thing about the movie remains outstanding all these years later — the FASTWAY soundtrack. “Trick Or Treat” has just been ‘Remastered & Reloaded’ by Rock Candy Records for all fans rejoice.“Trick Or Treat” soundtrack proves, at least to me, that Fastway deserved much more. The album features a collection of hook-laden melodic hard rock tunes that are firmly rooted in the sound of the mid-80s, but also are given a little bit of classic-rock backbone. The first time I heard the opening song and title track, I pooped my pants. The song’s unparalleled emotion and tenacity penetrated the very depths of my being, and left me quivering unequivocally with raw radiant emotion. You’ve got some big guitar chords from “Fast” Eddie Clarke with a tough drum beat underneath from Alan Connor. Then comes that big, throw-a-fist-in-the-air chorus. Now listening this remastered reissue I’m instantly transported back about 30 years, banging my head and singing along, particularly when vocalist Dave King lets out that Kevin Dubrow-like final line on the song.Next, the opening chords of “After Midnight” burst out of my speakers directly into my chest, and they blow me into another dimension. A dimension placed into other decade, when Rock music was all about fun and feel-good time. Midtempo “Don’t Stop the Fight” pumps with its melodic line, then ‘Stand Up’ rocks with sharp riffs.Fastway’s classic rock roots really come out on “Hold on to the Night,” a driving rocker with a rhythm section that puts me in mind of ‘Radar Love’. It’s pure early Fastway.Fastway’s ‘Trick Or Treat’ was not recorded as a regular ‘studio album project’. These songs were taped with a movie crew behind, and seems needed to be edited several times to fit the film.So ‘Trick Or Treat’ resulted not the best produced album Clarke wanted. There’s some differences between the tracks in terms of sound approach / mix / mastering. Even some ‘noises’ are heard in my original LP.The Rock Candy guys did a good job remastering these tapes, and this version of ‘Trick Or Treat’ is the best you can get.
