Bio:

Girlschool are a British hard Rock/heavy metal band originating out of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal scene in 1978 and frequently associated with contemporaries Motörhead. They are the longest running all-female rock band, still active after more than 35 years.Formed from a school band called Painted Lady, Girlschool enjoyed strong media exposure and commercial success in the UK in the early 1980s with three albums of 'punk-tinged metal'and a few singles, but rapidly lost their momentum in the following years. In the 1990s and 2000s, they concentrated their efforts on live shows and tours, reducing considerably the production of studio albums. During their long career, Girlschool travelled all over the world, playing in many rock and metal festivals and co-headlining with or supporting some of the most important hard rock and heavy metal bands. They maintain a worldwide cult following and are considered an inspiration for many succeeding female rock musicians.Despite frequent changes of line-up, original members Kim McAuliffe, Enid Williams and Denise Dufort are still in the band to this day. The only original member no longer in the band, lead guitarist and singer Kelly Johnson, died of cancer in 2007.

Album:

At the very end of last year there was a silent release that needs to be promoted: the reissue, first time on CD of GIRLSCHOOL's fifth album "Running Wild".Criminally underrated at its time (1985), this great record has been remastered from the original tapes and released by prestigious British label Cherry Red / Hear No Evil.Running Wild is the fifth studio album by the British heavy metal band Girlschool, released on Mercury Records in 1985.It is the only studio work released as a five-piece group by Girlschool, after original lead guitarist Kelly Johnson had left the band. Vocals duties on the album are shared by Jackie Bodimead and Kim McAuliffe.Running Wild was released only in America. It was produced by Nick Tauber, previously known for his work with Thin Lizzy, Marillion, and Toyah."Do You Love Me?" is a cover of the song from Kiss' album Destroyer (1976).American major label Mercury Records released their 4th disc, who also picked up the option for their fifth. But these were troubled times for Girlschool and original guitarist / singer Kelly Johnson left the band.So founder members Kim McAulliffe (guitar, vocals) and Denise Dufort (drums) recruited not one but two new girls as replacement: both ex-She Cris Bonacci (guitar) and extraordinary vocalist Jackie Bodimead.Produced by Nick Tauber (Marillion, Thin Lizzy) at Air, Battery and The Manor studios between December 1984 and January 1985, "Running Wild" was the only studio work released by Girlschool as a five-piece group. And those wasn't the only changes: if you never liked the aggressive metal style from Girlschool, you better listen to "Running Wild".Only released in America on vinyl / cassette (never CD) "Running Wild" is a completely different beast, very much a keyboard driven album aimed at US radio according to the era.Crafted as the British answer to Heart and Lita Ford, "Running Wild" is a pure female fronted Melodic Hard Rock delight.Catchy, hook laden cuts like "Nowhere to Run", "Let me Go", "Nasty Nasty" or title track "Running Wild" (check out the video, pure '80s!) are a must for every fan of the genre. The album also feature a cover version of Kiss’ glam anthem "Do You Love Me?" done in very sensual shape. And we have Jackie Bodimead... one of the greatest - and underrated - female Melodic Hard Rock vocalists ever. Her pipes are unique, with the right amount of raspiness balanced by melody and potent harmonies to die for."Running Wild" is a brilliant Melodic Hard Rock album with AOR touches, criminally overlooked at its time. Mercury Records (with his Rock department concentrated in Bon Jovi) never promoted the record, only released it in the USA and even deny the possibility to be pressed on CD.So "Running Wild" was almost totally ignored by the buying public. If Mercury would have put a little time and effort into promoting this album, it could have easily gone Platinum. Just imagine Girlschool touring with Heart...This remaster is a real treat, crisp and balanced. Also included is a nice booklet featuring rare photos and extensive liner notes from Classic Rock and Metal Hammer’s Malcolm Dome based on new interviews with the band.As said, if your melodic ears always avoided Girlschool's early gritty style, you better grab this one. Also, don't be scared by the horrible artwork, the music packed inside is a dazzling slice of Melodic Hard Rock.

Album:

One of you asked for the out of print, Limited Edition Japanese miniLP of GIRLSCHOOL's most famous albums pressed on high quality SHM-CD. "Screaming Blue Murder" is the third studio album by the British pioneer female act, in this reissue including 11 bonus tracks, a true 'expanded edition'.During the first half of the '80s, GIRLSCHOOL was a blast in the boiling NWOBHM scene. All girls doin' metal? Really? And it worked like a charm.Numerous magazine covers, sold-out tours, and a string of hit singles.By 1982 and while recording this this 3rd effort, founding bassist Enid Williams left GIRLSCHOOL arguing artistic differences. Indeed, times were changing and both the recording label and the girls wanted a more commercial, mainstream appeal sound. So the sessions for "Screaming Blue Murder" found the band breaking in new arrival Ghislaine "Gil" Weston, bass player and very good vocalist as well (she does lead vocals on tracks 7 & 10).There's a forceful number on the opener (title track), and a flashy edgy rocker in lead-off single 'Don't Call It Love' with more melodic vocals and great riffs. One of my favorites is the rollicking, bass-pumped 'Wildlife' featuring a very good guitar work, while the catchy 'When Your Blood Runs Cold' rocks with style.I don't know if the cover of the Stones' 'Live With Me' was necessary, but 'Take It from Me' has a great hard rock pulse, 'HellRazor' comes indeed sharp and energetic in a 2 & a half minute, and the girls try something different with the unusual closer 'Flesh And Blood', with its clean guitars and whispered vocals by newcomer Gil Weston, a quite a brave experiment for this kind of band.We have as well a bunch of bonus including the non-album track 'Don't Stop' (B-side of the EP Wildlife) plus a killer BBC Radio Concert, recorded live in London, June 9, 1982 showcasing GIRLSCHOOL in the plenitude of their effervescence.Very good release, as usual, with the superb Japanese SHM-CD quality.0dayrox Team is always eager to fulfill everyone's requests, if it's out there, we'll do our best. And here's another one (more to come).Highly Recommended piece of '80s rock.

Album:

Legendary all-girl British hard rockers GIRLSCHOOL will release their 13th studio album, "Guilty As Sin", on November 13 in North America via UDR Music in red colored vinyl, digital download and a deluxe ecolbook formats.Pre-orders for "Guilty As Sin" will begin on October 9, with the first single, "Come The Revolution" (only available on the physical U.S. edition) as an instant-grat track.Produced by Chris Tsangarides (JUDAS PRIEST, THIN LIZZY) at the Ecology Room Studios in Kent, England, "Guilty As Sin" includes ten tracks of the driven, melodic yet gloriously riff-heavy rock'n'roll that Kim McAuliffe (vocals and guitar), Enid Williams (vocals and bass), Jackie Chambers (lead guitar and backing vocals) and Denise Dufort (drums) are world famous for.Featuring raw, energetic, killer cuts such as "Take It Like A Band", "Treasure" and "Come The Revolution", "Guilty As Sin" is soaked in the late-night spills 'n' sweat of beer, cigarettes, denim and leather — a timeless evocation of how it feels to throw away all life's B.S. and get down'n'dirty with loud, crunchy yet catchy rock 'n' roll. There's also time for two storming cover songs (including the superb, swaggering rock version of THE BEE GEES' '70s disco classic "Stayin' Alive").Speaking to rock journalist Mitch Lafon about the songwriting process for "Guilty As Sin", Williams said: "There are three main writers in the band, and we all wanna put our material on the album, which is great, because it makes you up your ante and you wanna do your very best. So we're all kind of working hard to get tracks that we love on [there]."She continued: "To be very general, Kim tends to like… real, just the heart of GIRLSCHOOL. So on the album, there's quite a few tracks that she's written with Jackie, and some of them are real fast, double-bass-drum kind of tracks that you would associate with the early part of GIRLSCHOOL. And then there's always a few tracks that are kind of rock and roll, really. Again, Kim loves authentic… She likes to keep recreating, but really staying with how GIRLSCHOOL is, as she understands it, whereas I'm always much more experimental. And I keep reining it in a little bit, but I'm always the one that wants to try to push new boundaries. So I've written a couple of songs by myself and a couple with Jackie. They're still GIRLSCHOOL, because we're still playing them and it's still one or two of the writers of GIRLSCHOOL, but they're not necessarily exactly what you would expect."Enid added: "The way that it all came together, the producer was quite ill, and we really got things going quite late in the day. And so we went back over the stuff we'd done in the past. And we had a few ideas that we'd been knocking around. We thought, 'Hold on. Let's give this a go.' I had a set of lyrics from the past. And we threw all this stuff together, and what we've come up with is really… It's very much a classic rock album, but covering a whole… almost a history of rock music that we've loved, really."It's hard to compare things, but some of heads-down rock and roll might have a touch of AC/DC or ZZ TOP or whatever, and as soon as you've got double-bass drums, it's back to the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. But then there's a few songs, like a slower, not-quite ballad, but we don't generally do slower songs. And the odd hint of Iggy Pop or [David] Bowie in there. It's almost like a homage to the rock music that we've loved and have touched upon over the decades all coming together. But we didn't sit down and make that plan. But, like I said, because of having three different writers with three different… We like a lot of the same music, but, as I said, I tend to go left field, and Kim likes to find new ways of doing what is GIRLSCHOOL as understood by most people."We go for what excites us, what we're passionate about. And I think it's quite good to have a mix of stuff. But it's always with GIRLSCHOOL at its core."

Album:

Forty-five years young, British hard rock royalty GIRLSCHOOL comes out swinging with its fourteenth studio album, "WTFortyfive?", a deliciously dirty declaration that age is a number that shows how much real raw attitude you have when it really counts. Kim McAuliffe (guitar/vocals),Denise Dufort (drums),Jackie Chambers (guitar/backing vocals) and Tracey Lamb (bass) leave the grit under their finger nails and the scuzz on their crusty leather boots as they riff and stomp their way through 12 statements of intent showing major attitude, some great melodies, and a consistent crunch to every guitar. There's the addictive mototörcharged scuzz of "It Is What It Is", the Wandsworth-via-Sunset Strip sway of "Bump In The Night", the youthful, punky romp of "Up To No Good" and the smart, sassy, rock 'n' roll hooks of "Believing In You", with McAuliffe's vocals sounding as sharp and raucous as ever.

Line-Up:

Kim McAuliffe – rhythm guitar, vocals
Jackie Chambers – lead guitar, backing vocals
Tracey Lamb – bass, backing vocals
Denise Dufort – drums

Tracklist:

01. It is What It Is
02. Cold Dark Heart
03. Bump In The Night
04. Barmy Army

06. Believing In You

08. Into The Night
09. Are You Ready? (feat. Joe Stump)

11. Party
