Bio:

OSUKARU is the brandchild from the ex. EYE guitarist Oz Osukaru who had the dream of creating a Swedish / American hard rock outfit having big melodies, catchy hooks and the classic stadium sound. After teaming up with the awarded Los Angeles born drummer Ryan Coyle, the spine of OSUKARU's major songwriting style was born.In 2011 OSUKARU did some line-up changes and today the band is stronger than ever. With Oz Osukaru, Ryan Coyle and the lovely Emma Lee Gunnari on bass, the ex. SEVEN TEARS and PLATITUDE keyboardist Kristofer von Wachenfeldt has joined the band together with a brand new talent to be explored; lead singer Carl "CJ" Johan. And what a line-up it is!OSUKARU is the brainchild of Swedish guitarist, keyboardist and songwriter Oz Osukaru who wanted a melodic rock band delivering not only good music but an entire "all inclusive" AOR experience with the music, image and artwork - all being well thought out.The band have been consisting of various constellations but the current line-up is by far the most interesting. Having both male and female vocals on top of a big AOR soundscape where edgy hard rock guitars, atmospheric keyboards and a slick saxophone comes together makes the music of OSUKARU something special for every fan of melodic rock.On their new mini-album "Transition" we get everything from solid AOR to classic hard rock mixed with a slightly progressive edge, along with some re-recorded favourites from their earlier releases. The album was mixed and mastered by Attila Bokor (Morph, BOA) and Kevin McNoldy (Dave Matthews Band, Backstreet Boys) who together brought out the biggest production yet on an OSUKARU release."Transition" comes out march 2015 on CD (City of Lights Records) and digital download (Simply Boundless Records) with both versions including a booklet (PDF file on the digital version) packed with artwork, photos, lyrics, credits and liner notes plus one exclusive bonus track on each format.

Album:

First full lenght album by this Gothenburg AOR/Melodic Rock band. The band which has gone through lots of member changes never really got me hooked until this release, and that’s because they never managed to release an album with good enough songs straight through. But this time they made it, although 4 of the songs are previous released they’ve picked the best of these songs and added some really nice new ones.Since Oz drafted Chris Tiann to the band they’ve taken the next step with a bit rougher sound that fits this line-up perfect. The previous recorded songs that has gotten new life are City Lights, Never Too Late, Change Of Heart, Tell Me You’ll Stay (on this album called T.M.Y.S). City Lights sound pretty much the same with rougher cut vocals. Never Too Late are only a decent song where Chris Tiann struggle a bit with the high pitch vocals. Change Of Heart are the best song of the the re-recorded ones simply because its the best song the band has released previous, add as well that this version has been added with a tasteful sax solo. T.M.Y.S – Elevator Version, as its called on Salvation, are presented very stripped down with keyboards, accoustic guitar and some percussion. On to the new songs that definately are the best material ever from the band. We get two AOR-songs two classic/melodic rock songs and one really catchy ballad.Highway To The Stars are the first song on the album ( as I exclude the intro called Exit) an AOR-song that kicks the album going, showing the original vision from Ryan and Oz. The other AOR-track are Promised Land where we get another sax solo really fitting, it actually makes me think of how Foreigner once used the sax to spice up their sound a bit. With Hot Blooded Woman they cover some new ground as its more of a classic rock tune, a bit bluesy with great vocals by Chris. I’d say that this track might end up as one of my top ten favorite tracks 2012 ( I know we’ve only reached February) the only thing that bothers me are the production, but more about that later. The other classic hard rock track are Tear It Down showing why Osukaru should keep writing song in this direction with its kick ass hard driven sound.Although Hot Blooded Woman are my favorite track, the ballad Till the End Of Time could be a big hit with lots of airplay, if not with Osukaru, Oz might get the right artist to record it with a slight different arrangement. This one got a great chorus that gets stuck in your mind.

Line Up:

Oz Osukaru - guitars, backing vocals, keyboards (2010)
Emma-Lee Gunnari - bass
Ryan Coyle - drums, percussion
Chris Tiann - lead vocals (2012)

Album:

If you find yourself holding on to memories of the days of dressing like Madonna or air- guitaring your way around your basement, then hold on to your spandex for this Eighties-esque second studio album, “Triumphant”. Is OSUKARU a cover band? No siree! They strive to integrate the sounds of their muses, such as FOREIGNER, HEART, WHITESNAKE and VIXEN with their own compositions and original lyrics. We have upbeat, mid-tempo and ballads to look forward to on this 14-track lark.We begin with some a moodscape of “Dawning” that connects to an upbeat self-empowerment anthem,“Triumphant”. If you are looking for a motivational song to add to your personal soundtrack, this is one to load onto your IPod. “Is that Lou Gramm,” you say, on “Prisoner Of The Night”? Indeed, no. He’s Frederik Werner, who sounds remarkably like the best lead singer that FOREIGNER ever had. For reference songs of comparison, listen to “Say You Will” or “Cold As Ice”. Now, Mr. Werner doesn’t spend the entire album sounding like Mr. Gramm. He does have a voice of his own effectively rising to the occasion of the 80s rock soundscape. The only beef I have….”Where’s the beef,” you say? (See old Wendy’s hamburger commercials, you 80s maniacs!) “Heaven In Your Eyes” and “The Fire Burns On” (female vocals) seemed sung significantly off-key. “Holding On To Memories” was sung too prettily. This listener’s ears needed just a bit of grit and edge out of the latter and a lot more agreement with what the instruments were playing in the former.Sounds of the eighties would not be complete without a saxophone in the mix. If HUEY LEWIS AND THE NEWS could do it, then why not! Perhaps Jens Björk played for him, too. You will hear him here and there throughout the album. Mr. Björk and crew treat us to a Jazz interlude in the track “Cruise Control,” which offers a display of their instrumental proficiency and variety. But don’t get too comfortable. “Mafia Rules” will blow out your windows with its fierce opening riffage! Listen on to the end of the album to complete the experience. You’ll swear you’re hearing your memories.Overall, I found this an admirable retrospective, with “Prisoner Of The Night” as the definite star. The instrumentalists definitely nailed it, the singers most of the time. If you want your 80s back, Sweden seems to be where it’s at these days. Check them out, dear reader.

Album:

The EP "Covered Up" by OSUKARU appeared as bonus CD with the band's release 'Triumphant'. It was a Limited Edition of 500 copies, now out of print. As title says, "Covered Up" is Osukaru's rendition of classic Melodic Rock / AOR songs done with the band's own spin, including a really good version of Bad English's 'Tough Times Don't Last', 'Who Cries Now' (Unruly Child), 'Waiting For Love' (Alias) and 'Midnight Blue' (Lou Gramm). Also there's a reworked cover in a melodic rock shape of 'Hair' from pop star Lady Gaga, which works nicely as well."Covered Up" is a cool addition to your Osukaru - and melodic rock in general - collection, as these are timeless classic tunes and Osukaru tastefully arranged & performed the songs.I have seen this EP featured in other sites but the sound is not good at all, this one is taken from the original CD provided by a contributor of this site.

Line Up:

Oz Osukaru - guitars, bass, keys, backing vocals

Album:

Swedish melodic rockers OSUKARU return to their melodic hard-hitting AOR stamp with their new mini-album "Transition", which makes it their 5th official release to date. The album was mixed and mastered by Attila Bokor (Morph, BOA) and Kevin McNoldy (Dave Matthews Band, Backstreet Boys) who together brought out the biggest production yet on an OSUKARU record. As with all the other OSUKARU releases, the artwork for "Transition" was created by guitarist and founder Oz Osukaru, this time having band partner and vocalist Cecilia Camuii modeling on the cover."It just felt like a natural progression to instead of hiring yet another model, I'd use our very own" Oz says. "Cecilia have done a lot of modeling in the last couple of years and during the production of our last album 'Triumphant', she expressed an interest in taking over the blindfold for the follow-up release. This time however we took it a bit further by creating an original story arc spread out throughout the booklet as well as for the first time actually include a song about the character."OSUKARU are: Oz Osukaru (guitars, keyboards), Cecilia Camuii (lead vocals), Fredrik Werner (lead vocals, guitars) and new member Vidar Mårtensson (also in Siphon Fuel) on drums. On "Transition" they are joined by Jens Björk (saxophone), Fredrik Svensson (bass) and long time member Ryan Coyle (drums)."Transition" will hit the streets this fall via City of Lights Records / Membran Entertainment Group (CD version) and Simply Boundless Records (digital download). Both versions will include one exclusive bonus track each.

Album:

Swedish guitarist Oz Osukaru has been tirelessly fighting to position his band OSUKARU at the top of the Melodic Rock / AOR field for more than seven years. The problem always was the male vocalist change from album to album, but now seems Fredrik Werner has firmly occupied the slot and "Rock It Up", Osukaru's 6th effort, it's the first featuring the same singer. It's obvious; when you get a stable line-up for more than a year, it pays its dividends. On "Rock It Up", Osukaru sounds and feels like a real band like never before. As happened since the last album, this new recording shows the group much more inclined to Melodic Rock than the characteristic AOR sound of Osukaru's origins. Of course, there's ever present keyboards and melodies in the classic Scandinavian tradition, but overall the style is Melodic (Hard) Rock.Think Talisman, Takara and alike, with the personal Osukaru vibe including occasional sax here and there, string arrangements, acoustic passages, etc.'Rock It Up' opens with a punch driven by a hard riff and showcasing how much Fredrik Werner's vocals have greatly adapted to the band. A kickin' rocker with an extremely melodic chorus."Driven By Love" goes for AOR in classic vein yet with a modern sound akin Pride Of Lions, then 'Multiplied' is a melodic mid-tempo, a song with a strong Heart influence.'Rock It Up (karaoke version)' could be taken as a filler, but it's really interesting as you can check how much the band has grown and how good sounds instrumentally. The rest of the songs are the new recordings with Fredrik Werner at the mic, some re-worked old songs, some newer. Finally, seems Osukaru has found stability and it's ready for a major step: a full length album with new material. "Rock It Up" shows a band tight & oiled, plus strong songwriting.Production has been improved in recent Osukaru works, and while still is not perfect, comes very close to the final goal.Really Good Scandinavian Melodic Rock / AOR.

Line Up:

Oz Ozukaru: guitars, keyboards, backing vocals
Fredrik Werner: vocals, guitars, backing vocals
Eugenia: vocals, keyboards
Fredrik Svensson: bass
Vidar Mårtensson: drums

The album was mixed and mastered by Attila Bokor (Morph, BOA) and Kevin McNoldy (Dave Matthews Band, Backstreet Boys) who together brought out the biggest production yet on an OSUKARU release."Transition" comes out march 2015 on CD (City of Lights Records) and digital download (Simply Boundless Records) with both versions including a booklet (PDF file on the digital version) packed with artwork, photos, lyrics, credits and liner notes plus one exclusive bonus track on each format.

Album:

Swedish AOR band Osukaru are about to release their brand-new album "The Labyrinth" in March 2017, which will be their 4th full-length studio album, but also their first ever concept album. It was mixed by Viktor Stenquist (Beseech, Amorphis) and Attila Bokor (Morph, BOA, Osukaru). "The Labyrinth" is a love letter to classic fantasy movies from back in the day and in particular the 1986 fantasy flick 'Labyrinth', thereof the album title. "The idea was to write songs that when played in the order they appear on the album, they would tell the overall story of the spectacular and magical movie 'Labyrinth', but with each song still being able to stand on its own", says Oz. "But as a twist, our version of the story is more from the antagonists point of view, as I would imagine the book read by the protagonist in the first scene of the movie is as well. So by going from that angle, we found a lot of interesting stories and themes to build our songs on." "The Labyrinth" sees Osukaru taking one step back and two steps forward into their already established AOR-with-an-edge territory, raising the keyboards and the melodies just another notch. Oz: "I'd say that this one is our most AOR oriented release since 'Salvation', but it's also our most hard hitting rock album to date." The album artwork was, as always, created by Oz himself and this time we see returning model Isabelle Högbacka being back as their blindfolded heroine for the first time since "Salvation" in 2012.

Bio:

OSUKARU is the brainchild of Swedish guitarist, keyboardist and songwriter Oz Osukaru who wanted a melodic rock band delivering not only good music but an entire "all inclusive" experience with the music, concept and artwork - all being well thought out. Originally formed in 2010 by former Katana and Eye guitarist Oz Osukaru as a solo venture before he started adding the first building blocks to make it become a full band in 2013, after the release of two EPs and the debut album "Salvation" (2012). OSUKARU signed a new record deal with City of Lights Records and the follow-up album "Triumphant" was released in the summer of 2013. However, it was with the release of the third album "Transition" in 2015 that they started to find their own spot in the world of melodic rock. It opened up new doors for the band and with the release of the 2016 EP "Rock It Up", they embarked on their first European tour. 2017 saw OSUKARU releasing their first concept album "The Labyrinth", inspired by the 1986 fantasy movie Labyrinth. This album was a huge hit among both fans and critics alike and the European tour that followed was the first to include sold out shows across the borders. In the spring of 2018, not only did Oz and the band sign a management deal with Adrienne Hawe Music Management, a booking deal with Scream N' Shout Agency and join the Scandirock Network, they also started recording a new album with release September this year and with an extended tour to follow, crossing over to 2019. Now, with a "what if this kind of music came today"-kind of mindset, OSUKARU is not your typical run-of-the-mill rock band with a sound of yesterday. Combining the heart and soul of classic giants such as Dokken, Winger, Def Leppard, Stryper and Whitesnake with the up-to-date-attack of modern counterparts like Eclipse, Human Zoo and Brother Firetribe, OSUKARU does "everything right to stand apart in the AOR music world" (Rock & A Hard Place Radio) and will continue doing so for a long time to come.

Album:

Swedish melodic rock band Osukaru will release the follow up album to last years highly successful ‘The Labyrinth‘ on September 28th of this year. The new album ‘House of Mirrors‘ consists of 11 tracks produced by founder / guitarist Oz Osukaru and singer Fredrik Werner, mixed by Svein Jensen at Grand Recordings in Gothenburg and mastered by Kristian Fyhr at Fyhr Music Productions.“With ‘House of Mirrors‘ I think we finally figured out how to combine the melodic AOR elements from our 2012 debut album ‘Salvation’ with the rawer groovy edge of ‘The Labyrinth’, yet still include something completely fresh” says Oz Osukaru. “In that way, this could easily be the spiritual successor to our debut, yet stand its own ground. I know a lot of bands have said this about their new release and all, yet I never have. Not until now that is because this is without a doubt our best album so far!”Singer and co-producer Fredrik Werner joins in: “This album marks the completion of what has been shining through here and there on previous releases. It has a mixture of melody and raw attitude which reflects my personal influences very well”, he says. “You won’t know what hit you by the time you reach the last track on our, in my opinion, most solid AOR experience to date.”The cover artwork was created by Oz himself, this time working out the concept with his manager / fiancée Adrienne Hawe, starring model Emelie Blidmark.“Just coming off ‘The Labyrinth‘ which has our most iconic album cover to date, I didn’t want to go back to how I created them before, nor did I want to try and remake our last one either” says Oz. “This was a hard nut to crack but with fresh feedback from Adrienne as well as us both going through some of the classic album covers within our genre, I finally found inspiration to, together with my very good friend and model Emelie Blidmark, create what I believe matches the quality of ‘The Labyrinth‘, if not even surpasses it.”

Album:

Swedish melodic glam metal band Osukaru is "Starbound" with its 6th full-length studio offering, standing high on the success of the last record "House Of Mirrors" (2018). With one foot in melodic rock & roll, the other in classic heavy metal and all eyes aimed towards tomorrow, "Starbound" offers everything you want from a new Osukaru album, if not more.Going back 11 years, Osukaru was just an idea in the mind of guitarist Oz Hawe Petersson (formerly known as Oz Osukaru) and it would take two more years and just as many EPs before the guys released their debut album "Salvation" in the spring of 2012. Back then, Osukaru was merely a band formed around Oz as he saw his vision come alive. A few years and line-up changes later, the third full-length release suitably titled "Transition" (2015) came out. That was, according to Oz himself, when Osukaru truly started to become a band. With roots in classic stadium rock, the first few releases had a more clear and pure AOR flavour to them. With "Transition" however, you could hear hints of a heavier spark deep within the tracks. Going forward, Osukaru really started to gain a unique, harder yet melodic sound and with the last album "House Of Mirrors", they landed a rock & roll homerun on which they have built upon to create the brand new comet ride titled "Starbound".Produced by the power team Oz Hawe Petersson (guitar, keyboards) and Fredrik Werner (lead vocals, guitar) with Svein Jensen (Sister Sin, Transport League, Outshine) once again handling the mixing duties. The album was mastered by Christoffer Borg (Art Nation, Six Foot Six, Atlas) and features an extraordinaire guest appearance from saxophone player Mark Holden of Boulevard. The cover artwork sees Osukaru expand their visual concept even further, with loads of details and easter eggs throughout.
