DERDIAN born in1998 , by an idea of Henry Pistolese (rithm guitar) and Marco Covelli (drums). The band was initially interested in Trash-Metal style, covering bands like Metallica and Megadeth, but when they decided to write original songs they approached Power Metal, in order to make their music powerful, loud and melodic. After some line-up changes, Derdian released their first self-produced demo-Cd called “Revenge”, distributed just in Italy and very well reviewed by main local Power Metal-focused magazines and web-sites like “Power Zone” mag, “Orion” mag and and “Eutk” site. After the recording of this demo, new line-up changes occurred and, in the meantime, the band managed to play a few live-shows in Italy (“Indian’s Saloon Club”, “Transilvania Live Club”, “Madigan’s Pub”, etc.). In 2003 Derdian self-released their debut-MCD “Incitement” , featuring 3 original songs + 1 CDRom track (containing a live-video for the title-track) that got great reviews and led the band to sign a record-deal with Steelheart/Adrenaline Records.The debut-CD “New Era (Part I)” have seen the light in February/March 2005 and it marked the beginning of a new era in the story of the band.The debut album sold a lot of copies all around the world , specially in Japan Korea,Canada and USA. By now too New Era pt. 1 is very requested by all the metal heads all around the world At the end of 2006, after a self promotion by Myspace, Derdian was contacted by the great American label : Magna Carta ( Portnoy, Billy Sheean, Jordan Rudess, Steve Morse) that proposed an agreement to the band. Derdian signed this agreement and the new album: New Era pt 2- War of the Gods came out in august in USA and In September 2007 in Europe In 9 years the Band had faced a lot of difficulties, and problems of all sorts, but now they are ready to scream out their music and their battle hymns !

The new eagerly awaited chapter of saga began 18 years ago.Album releases October 20, 2023.Five years after the last album "DNA", the band DERDIAN, founded at the end of the nineties, returns to its roots and continues with "New Era Part IV - Resurgence" the "A New Era-Fantasy-Story" started on the first three albums, after devoting themselves to more current, contemporary themes on the last albums.Except for a short guest appearance at the Magna Carta label for two albums at the beginning of their career, the Italians release their albums on their own. Symphonic power metal from Italy, that's exactly what I'm looking for - but so far DERDIAN has passed me by, but that will surely change, that's for sure! But let's start at the beginning.After a short keyboard intro, the opener 'The Grin of Revenge' starts fast. My first impression is: RHAPSODY when they didn't have FIRE in their name - only without bombast. Singer Ivan, who also holds the mic with compatriots VISION DIVINE, has a powerful voice that operates more in the middle than in the very high registers, but he masters them. 'The Evil Messiah' convinces with smooth vocal lines, a nice piano break and strong guitar solo. Apropos - the guitars are surprisingly hard for the genre and sometimes touch US metal regions. Thumbs up, I can recommend the evil messiah as a play tip. Face To Face' is an aggressive midtempo stomper, before it gets more upbeat again with 'Dorian'. Here Ivan shows that he also hits high notes without it cutting your eardrums and also acts confidently and powerfully in these registers. Black Thyphoon' was already released as a single in 2021. A good choice, because the song is quite representative of the album and sums it up well with snappy solos from keyboard and guitar, varied vocals, numerous tempo changes. The title track 'Resurgence' follows, and I would like to mention the crystal-clear sound, in which no instrument is lost, despite the almost permanently depressed foot pedals, bass, keyboards and guitars can be heard clearly and distinctly at all times! The sound on this album is simply great cinema! All Is Lost' is the (power) ballad of the album, it starts quietly, with acoustic guitar and keyboard. Here I would like to mention singer Ivan again, how clearly and powerfully the man acts, even if the voice stands quasi on its own. The band's anthem 'Derdian' follows quickly, before 'Astar Will Come Back' is the end of a fantastic album.Even after several listens I can't find any points of criticism, the kitsch factor on 'New Era Part IV - Resurgence' is low, the guitars have a lot of pressure and power, rhythmically there is a lot of variety in every song and you always find new, small details. The keyboards are always present, but don't clutter up the songs, the guitar dominates the sound.None of this is new or even innovative, but in the musical framework in which the band operates, it almost doesn't get any better than this. The only thing I miss is a long track, but that can come on one of the next albums. With me, the Italians have won a new fan, and I still ask myself how it can be that the guys have slipped through my fingers so far? Maybe that's one of the disadvantages of not having a label behind you?For fans of RHAPSODY (OF FIRE), DRAGONLAND or VISION DIVINE a must, but also STRATOVARIUS or SONATA ARCTICA lovers can, no must, risk an ear! DERDIAN are simply too good to keep flying under the radar.
